Sweet motors bud. I have both 1960 and 1961 15hp buccaneers. Just replaced ignition and rebuilt the gearcase today in the sunburst orange 1961. Glad I stumbled across your channel. Thanks man! Yeah those bushings are real SOBs. I find if you tap them with a 5/16ths tap you can thread in a bolt, knock it out and reuse it. It's interesting, but if it lasted 60 years, im sure it will last another 60 years. Thanks for watching!
Tuck that green wire in nice and neat under the coil. Also set your coil legs using a flat screwdriver to make sure there even on the top of the posts like you said . When you go to run it use a 9X9 pitch propeller or a 9 1/4 X 11 and watch that motor dance.
Make sure no wired touch the Flywheel when you put everything in place and the larger grommets need to be remove. To be able to put new coils in place.
I have TWO...a Gale buccaneer (same motor) and a Viking. Both made by Gale, a division of Johnson, Evinrude but the plant was in Galesburg so...Gale. VERY good working motors and all parts are available from BRP, Johnson Evinrude or aftermarket, Sierra international parts.
Oh yeah. I find these can be had a bit cheaper as many don’t realize they are essentially an OMC engine. Do you happen to know if there is a thermostat hidden in there somewhere?
