Too many sports/events being added to the Olympics already that don’t demonstrate that they’re the best in the world, or even popular. This clip of Baseball 5 certainly is a good example of that. That was the Baseball 5 world championship and it looked like my co-ed softball team, with about the same amount of errors.

Sports can bring people together, provide camaraderie, bring joy and passion, they can inspire healthy lifestyles, teach discipline and teamwork, be a influence on your personal growth, the list goes on. I don't see a downside even if the stakes and athleticism aren't as high. We have the special Olympics for a reason. Special Olympians aren't setting the most impressive sprints we have ever seen but that's not really what it's about, right? plus, who defines what makes a sport important enough? seems rather objective. I don't want someone else deciding whether or not the sports I enjoy are worthy enough to exist because they might not have the same opinion. if there's an audience and demand, who loses? don't take life too seriously.

A lot of this is due to the nature of modern international sports themselves, the addition of 3x3 Basketball and Rugby Sevens encouraged the creation of these boutique sports with short play, small teams, and minimal equipment. Because it is so basic it is far more likely to get added to the Olympic program because it is inexpensive to run. I do hope it helps people outside of baseball's core countries get exposed to the real thing.

50 years ago we used to play a very similar game called “Carro”, except to get you out they needed to hit you with the ball. It was so much fun and the scare of being hit in the face added another level of adrenaline.
