    So if I am using headphones, will it only activate the DAC if I put the headphones in the right input? or does the dac also work if I put it in the left input? (the headphone input)

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, the one on the left is the direct input and the one closer to the switches is for connecting to an amp.

    In case you are wondering why I have the 3.5 mm cable plugged into the output instead of the line-out of the NX4, that was because I was waiting for a replacement cable long enough and of acceptable quality that I ordered from Amazon. (The original cable that comes in the box would get the job done, but you know: the placebo)

    great job. totally appreciate your patience in answering all these questions. I want to connect an android phone (an Honor 7) to this unit and then connect the line out of this unit to my Marantz stereo amp. Is that possible?

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sricharan C I believe so, either with a standard 3.5 mm connection or 3.5mm to 4.4 mm connection cable. I'm not too sure about the 3.5mm to RCA cable, but it should work as well. All these cables can be found on Amazon, but please be patient and be willing to pay for a good quality cable.

    "The amp colors with high imp headphones", in what way?

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harold Andeweg Hard to explain, but it gives you a really dark and overemphasized mid.

      xXKuuhaku Just received the NX4DSD and it sounds very good with my Senn HD600, no coloration in the mids as far as i can tell.

    Hi, this one, Meridian Explorer 2 or Dragonfly Red? All the best!

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would still get this one because I believe the other two relies on power from an input device and this is probably better with a newer chipset.

    Hi!
    I don't want to buy an amp so is the amp good for 1more H1707 and can it handle a 600 ohms headsets?
    Or is there a better portable dac\amp that is around the same price?
    Thank you!

  • @visveawaran3003
    @visveawaran3003 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you rate it better than the v20 dac....? To me v20 sounds a bit more brighter! Would the nx4 be an upgrade over the sound of v20..... Please advice!

    • @visveawaran3003
      @visveawaran3003 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am confused between using v20 as dac and go for nx5 amp only, ir go for nx4 as dac/amp. My gear includes he500, emx500, k's 500, willsound mk2, audio varna and vsonic gr07.

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DAC wise, the V20 has a pretty good DAC and only needs to pair with a better Amp; however, the DAC inside the NX4 DSD is definitely better than the ES9218 inside the V20 when it comes to specs. I personally don't think using your phone as a DAC is a good idea (for convenience issues). If your main audio source is your phone, yeah, go for just the NX5 or any other amplifier .

    • @visveawaran3003
      @visveawaran3003 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      xXKuuhaku , I want to upgrade mainly....so I want to understand whether nx4 will be an upgrade over v20+nx4/nx3, just that I am on a shoestring budget and itbhas to be portable, otherwise would have gone for a black label or something bigger..... How do these compete with them in sq? I have no idea at all....could you please guide me?

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes, definitely. The NX4 DSD, from what I heard from the people at Topping is that it uses a better-tuned amplifier and a better DAC. The chipset that NX4 DSD's DAC is from has the lowest THD measured to date. Now, I am not saying that it will immediately sound better to you, but is it an upgrade? Yes it is.

  • @studiooneimage9324
    @studiooneimage9324 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does NX4 DSD has enough power to drive DT880 600ohms?

  • @elm-neo

    The colored output (warm, I believe) has me a bit worried. Are you saying that that is not from the dac, but the amp? So, if I use the line out with another amp, like O2, will the output be neutral? Also, can you please elaborate on the coloration (sound) of this unit?

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Amp is what I'm talking about. You shouldn't worry if you have an external amplifier. I wouldn't call the output neutral, but it would be exactly how the O2 is supposed to sound like. The coloring is mainly a warmer sound to me: sounds like it is veiled and is not as crisp as the O2 would sound. It is hard to explain, but imagine a tighter and less transparent sound in comparison to the O2.

    Good review can I use this dac/amp on the my galaxy S8 & the MSI GE62VR 7RF Apache Pro gaming laptop, by the way thanks for the reply and I want to add can NX4 DSD powered lower impedance headphones like an AKG 7XX

    Hi there, I have got a NX4 DSD and its DAC is amazing. But I'm experiencing channel imbalance if the knob volume is up to 10 o'clock, it's very clear with high sensitive and low impedance headphones. Have you noticed anything like it?
    Because I'm using it standalone DAC paired with a DIY O2 as well, this channel imbalance does not bother at all.
    Sorry my english, not native...

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HDJMorrison believe it or not, I think it has to do with the o2 and for my hd660s, using high gain fixes the issue.

    • @HDJMorrison
      @HDJMorrison 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      xXKuuhaku oh, I think I didn't explain well. This happens only using NX4 headphone output. I made some research and maybe it's the potentiometer "dead zone"...

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HDJMorrison that is probably it.

    • @HDJMorrison
      @HDJMorrison 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      xXKuuhaku I was asking you because I'm afraid mine is a "defective" unit - or a project flaw. Would be too much if I ask you to test your NX4? Just try to listen anything in mono using a sensitive in ear (or anything with 16ohm, hearing with in ear is very noticeable) with the knob around 9 o'clock connected to NX4's headphone output.

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HDJMorrison oOh yes, definitely. As I said in the video the output isn't ”balanced”, but I don't think I have ever experienced a significant channel imbalance even with my sensitive IEMs beyond the volume you are talking about on low gain (which I assume you would use for iems, high gain would definitely screw up your iems at that volume) . So, if you are getting significantly noticeable channel imbalance on low-gain at any volume, u might have a defective unit.

      @@Indo.Barefaced I cant really tell u too much because I have never tried the Q1 Mark II, but NX4 does sound pretty rich to me. Whether highs, mids or lows stand out really depends on your headphones or earphones.

    Can this be powered by USB from the PC, or do you have to charge/power it separately?

    • @kuuhaku1168
      @kuuhaku1168  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know what you mean by "powered", but to charge the portable battery or to have it never run out of power, you plug the micro-usb into the charging port. If you want to use the DAC function, you are required to use another micro-usb cable to plug into your PC. For example, I currently have the NX4 plugged into a USB power outlet on the charging side, and have the DAC plugged into the USB port of my PC. I can send you a pic of what it looks like if you want.
