Great content review, I have the NX4 DSD in the grey/silver edition and I love it, it powers pretty much my headphones and my Chi-fi IEMs and have a blessed, wonderful, productive and safe week
Hi, I do believe NX4 could drive HD650 without any troubles. If needed you can also enable high-gain mode on NX4 which can deliver high power to even the most power-hungry cans.
I recently decided to order a Topping D10, Loki Mini, and a JDS Atom to power my new HE4xx headphones because of Amir’s review. Here is my question. If the NX4 is as good or better of a DAC as the D10 and D30, can I use the NX4 as just a pure DAC and still run it thru the Loki and Atom to get the benefit of the Atom’s qualities when it is powering the He4xx’s? Also then I would still get to use the Loki in desktop mode, but the NX4 could be taken portable when I was on the go. Or is it super bad to run a DAC/amp to another amp, or you lose all of the qualities of the Atom? Sorry that is a lot of question, but I think you are understand what I mean. In short, can the NX4 replace the D10 or a dedicated DAC needed for the Atom to sound its best?
Hi Barbara! Pure DAC output is provided over the line-out output. If you use it that way the headphones amp section and volume controls of NX4 are overridden so you get the line-out that can be connected to JDS Atom without any loss in quality, just as you would use D10. Furthermore, line-out is of great quality on NX4 so you can only get better sound compared to D10. Hope this helps.
@iiWi Reviews Hello, I love your reviews, congratulations! I am in a problem, I have a NX4 DSD a year ago and I love it, but I wanted to take a small step to the PC dac of approx 200 dlls, I am about to decide between the DX3 or D50, I only use it with headphones, Beyerdynamic DT990 80ohms, Hifiman 400i 35 ohms, and I'm looking for a detailed sound, my question is, will I get a big improvement with the D50 or the DX3 respect NX4DSD? And if so, which is better for what I'm looking for? or better continued with the DX4 ?? Many thanks for your help, greetings from Mexico!
Thanks! NX4 DSD is so good sounding that I wouldn't change it. D50 and DX3 pro actually don't sound better in my opinion. Also, D50 is just a DAC and doesn't have a headphone amp. I would simply keep using NX4 DSD, it's a really great sounding device.
@@crankiisago I haven't heard Fiio K3 so I can't say anything for sure. However I believe it would not be a good upgrade in your case and that NX4 DSD might still be a better device.
Hi, I see these for around $50 now, I think they're not DSD version but might still be the same performance? I plan to use it to improve Spotify streaming sound from iPhone and laptop Realtek to Takstar Pro 82 and for budget IEMs like Blon BL03 and Sony MH755. Initially I just wanted to use dongle dacs like the Sonata HD or VE Odyssey but a lot of people have been warning me to not expect much from those as far as sound improvement.
iiWi Reviews Turns out it was actually NX3s, must be false advertising or a typo on the seller side. Given my purpose, would these battery powered DAC/AMPs still provide the best price to performance as an all-in-one solution for both desktop/laptop use and for smartphones on-the-go compared to using dongle dacs for that purpose as well?
To be honest I think it might be overkill. I use Hidizs Sonata HD dongle for my in-ears like Tin T2, Blon BL03 and it sounds great. It's also OK for Takstar Pro 82 and it's much more practical when I'm on the move. NX4 is heavy, you have to charge your battery regularly and you can't see its level until it's almost drained and turns red. So I would go either for budget option Sonata HD or if you want to have a really powerful dongle - DragonFly Black - th-cam.com/video/mEM4Re1ucCM/w-d-xo.html It rocks with Pro 82. :)
I read about it but I didn't experience it on my unit. The lowest impedance I personally used is 32 Ohm and sensitivity ~ 100 dB/mW, maybe it would show itself with some IEMs of even higher sensitivity. I don'r have the unit any more so can't check for that.
0:04 you got it cos you were "curious" how it performs? 1:02 "it worked great..." 2:25 "I'm glad to say it sounds REALLY REALLY good..." 4:05 "and i can tell you it sounded great..." 6:21 "I really like NX4..."
"The only reason I'm not keeping it cos I need more inputs that the D30 provides, my stereo amp is already providing me with powerful headphone out and I DON'T ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT PORTABILITY". Why buy it then in the first place... I wish i can just buy lots of DACs and AMPs just to have a shot and to do a review then send it back. That product is now USED now just so you could do a review on a product you didn't need in the first place. Is that fair?
Hi Jester. Nope, not sending it back, it's still with me and a friend of mine will take it of my hands in a few days... It was bought on a great discount so I'm not bleeding that much money doing this. Selling my older D30 would be a greater loss, and I actually use optical input... so that's why NX4 will find a new home... And I will use regained budget to try something new. Cheers!
You just need a cable that's 3.5mm stereo plug on one side (goes to NX4 - line out) and a pair of RCAs on the other for your preamp. It's easy to find...
Do you need special software to use with an android? I'm planning to use with dt990 premium 600 ohm, and use the nx4 for portable listening utilizing the amp and DAC, will I need to download an app or any drivers to use, or can I just plug it right in?
I haven't heard M40X but can't imagine why this wouldn't be a good combo. NX4 has plenty of power to drive them, it's detailed and very neutral sounding... It should be a very nice match.
I used a K3 and was not really impressed. It wasn't even that much of an upgrade from my motherboard audio which I am using for ATH m40x, Beats Solo3 and Sennheisser HD6xx
Personally I would go for NX4 because it's meatier sound overall and has dedicated headphones amp which is really powerful so it's capable to drive much more demanding cans then Da3.
It would be. NX4 drives my AKG K92 which are also 32 Ohms better than Da3. Actually Da3 sounds very nice at lower volumes but when I turn it up it starts to sound a little bit thin and harsh. On the other hand, NX4 has plenty of power and when turned up sound just becomes more powerful without loosing balance and fullness. Da3 is actually good sounding device on it's own but if you're not on a tight budget I belive NX4 is worth the difference.
TR-amp sounds fuller and punchier for some reason, resolves more details too. There's a lot of circuitry around the DAC chip influencing the sound too like the choice of op-amps, capacitors, PCB layout, etc.
I haven't heard Soundblaster G6 but from some previous experience with Creative products - they are usually focused on gaming and add a lot of software goodies like virtual surround, clear voice etc. So an educated guess is I expect Topping NX4 to sound better (cleaner and more precise) for music. But I really can't claim that for sure before comparing them directly so this is just an opinion.
Hi, I haven't heard Fiio Q1 MK2 yet but I hear from a friend it sounds well balanced but NX4 sounds more open and has wider sound-stage.... but I didn't hear it personally.
Yes it can, just be sure it's NX4 DSD which is a latter version that supports DSD and that I reviewed. I think that older one NX4 (without DSD) is not in sale anymore.
Um... Been looking for the best DAC phone out there, but I'm gonna land with an S9 and a portable amplifier instead... The LG V30 looked good at first but I just can't stand the battery conditions on that phone... but this amplifier... oh my god... just what my eardrums and earskin wants to hear and feel :) This seems kind of embarrasing to ask, but where do I buy one in scandinavia? I mean, they can't be strictly sold on E-bay / Amazon / Aliexpress can they? That just reeks of scam-tech...
