Evil Silent Reflux- what you should know

  • Silent reflux is vastly different from heartburn, reflux or GERD, but its root cause is the same, which is important to realize.
Silent reflux is also known as LPR, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), which basically means that acid is flowing up from your stomach to your larynx or voice box.
It can cause the following symptoms:
    difficulty swallowing
bad taste in your mouth, especially in the morning
irritation to your vocal cords, affecting your speaking or singing voice
    trouble swallowing
    choking sensation
    increased phlegm
Treatment from conventional doctors involving eliminating a lot of your favorite foods and taking an antacid or PPI daily.
This does not address the root cause, which is a compression of your stomach. It's not difficult to get to the root cause of why the stomach is compressed and resolve the issue for good, eliminating the need for medication and highly restricted diets.

I have been diagnosed with LPR by my ENT but I don't have most of the normal symptoms. I have no problem with hoarseness or swallowing but I was clearing my throat a lot, had constant left ear pain and sometimes felt a flushed feeling in my face. She gave me a double-dose of PPI's for 2 months and it did help but later came back even after I had the LINX procedure.

Hello - Great information...Wondering if bitter taste in my mouth, foul taste when clearing my throat, and, I presume, bad breath can be attributed to LPR? thank you

Do you have cough?? What's your main symptoms?? Mine is cough and throat irritation.

That was great thank you, but what can I do about LPR? Following an endoscopy two years ago, I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and severe oesophagitis, and put on PPIs indefinitely. They helped calm everything down, but made me feel awful and I decided to come off them. I have muddled through OK, but just lately I have been experiencing all the symptoms of LPR, which I am sure I have. I am reluctant to go back to the doctors as they will just repeat what they did before and I don’t want that. What helps LPR and will I ever be rid of it? I have read that PPIs and antacids don’t help this condition anyway - is that the case?

I feel your pain. I was told about 7 years ago that I needed to be on PPI's permanently for GERD and silent reflux. I did research and got approved for the LINX procedure a little over 2 years ago. The procedure worked beautifully for about 2 years but these past couple of months the LPR symptoms have come back. Very frustrating. You are right though, the only thing most doctors will do for GERD or LPR is to give PPI's which are horrible for you.

I am very discouraged. It is hard to find anyone that understands LPR! To make a long story short I had Gerd and ended up having Nissen fundoplication which help with heartburn, but still have phlegm, horrible clearing of throat, soar throat, post nasal drip!! My body is just exhausted!!! I don' know what my next step should be!!!

I share the same symptoms. I know it's LPR. 18 months wait to get seen. I've had it for almost 4 years. Now got constant red throat with blisters. Constant throat clearing, phlegm, chest pain, dry cough, croaky throat, stomach pain. Dreadful condition that isn't understood.

Bragg's apple cider vinegar is the very best for acid reflux!! The problem is low acidic stomach!!🙏😊

Low stomach acid is common, but apple cider vinegar is not a cure-all for everyone. I'm glad it worked for you.

Take digestive enzymes including betaine HCL and Ox bile. Acid reflux is gone in one day. Most acid reflux is idiopathic and cannot be traced to any particular cause. And by the time the doctor thinks he might know your Barrett’s oesophagus has progressed.

Digestive enzymes can definitely be helpful, but not necessarily for everyone. I disagree that acid reflux cannot be traced to a cause. Here at Root Cause we specialize in resolving acid reflux for good.

@@DrVikkiPetersen My only symptom is a severe stinging on my throat and terrible cough. Feels like a wasp is stinging me and it's constant. I go through bags and bags of cough drops and throat spray to try to numb my throat. Been this way for maybe 8 years now. Sometimes it will stop for a few weeks/months but then always comes back. I can't take it anymore. My dr said it's GERD and has me on Omeprazole 40 mg....it's not helping. Had a camera threaded up my nose and down. She said I looked "meaty" down there. I'm at a complete loss and I want to cry. I can't even sleep anymore without the sting waking me up every hour or so.
