In Cantonese, when your parents think you are a disappointment, there is an idiom: "I'd rather give birth to BBQ Pork than you". I think that might be partly why he chose to turned them into BBQ Pork after murdering his parents.

I didn't accomplish anything for 32 years. I was messed up became an addict homeless. Dropped out of college joined the military. At 32 last year I got sober and clean not knowing my parents told me they were always supportive of me as long as I was happy and when I got sober they said they were proud. They said you don't have to go to college or play sports for us to be happy just do what makes you happy and be sober is all we ask

Good on you, brother. This coffeehouse dude comes off as a bully and asshole douche. He uses weird terms like incels to refer to men who never been successful at dating women as well. Just an air of arrogance about this guy.. He probably takes pleasure in mocking others for being socially awkward, a misfit or loner. That's the type of vibe this douche gives off.

I’m crying. When I was younger I though my parents were a “too strict” (I’m asian btw). But as I grew up, especially when I became a mom, I realized that they just want the best for me so I (and my future children) won’t suffer in the future. I realized that times get tougher and tougher each year. Now I also want the best for my daughter so she won’t suffer the way that I did. My parents weren’t being too strict. I was just being a dramatic teenager, they’re just being totally rational.
BTW, my parents also wanted me to learn musical instruments and also to develop my drawing skills, so I did. And those skills actually helped me cope with depression. I draw stuff or play musical instruments when I’m feeling down to distract me from my depression. I could also use those skills to earn some extra income when needed. It’s really good to have a backup plan AND some backup skills.

It was not separated from Mainland China in 1997. Instead, it was separated from the UK by being returned to China. Under the One Country Two Systems arrangement, China pledged to preserve much of what made Hong Kong unique as a former British colony was handed over, until 2047. But under Xi, it appears China has pretty much taken over the full administration of HK starting from the 2019-20 protests.

She was found still barely clinging to life by hotel staff but did not survive long enough to do more than whisper of who the culprit was through the shock.

There are huge difference between having helicopter parents and having abusive or neglectful parents. I know because my parents are both abusive and neglectful. They would neglect if I was bullied and didn't even care if I was starving or having trouble at school due to bullying while I lived in the same roof as them, and abusive because they locked me inside the house, a rundown house and cramped with old and dirty stuffs. They also treated me like a decoration as they force me to wear what they want and perform in front of their friends and acquaintances. I was like a circus animal to them. That's abuse and it's a lot worse than what this guy had to deal with.

@Curator Right? His parents tried to give him a good life and he repaid them with their lives. With his IQ, he could have had a successful career. There are tons out there who wish they could've had his 'childhood'. That judge was right about Henry and he's where he belongs.

@@Nalla762 He's not a spoiled kid who decided to kill people for fun. Bullying is a very serious matter that live people broken and doubting about their own abilities for life. Unlike rape, it is not physical so people are quick to dismiss it like you just did in your comment. Not everything is about money, especially when mental health is at stake and his parents created their own demise by thinking shaming, money and school were magic potions that would fix him. They made this deadbeat loser but he didnt shoot up a school and turned his anger to the people who failed him.

    • @Nalla762
      @Nalla762 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Money isn't the issue here. My goodness! This generation doesn't have a market on bullying; millions of us grew up to become productive citizens of society, not serial killers, or out shooting up schools or proclaiming ourselves as psychopaths. People choose to do what they do, then when caught, never take responsibility for their reprehensible actions. Peace.

@@gijane2cantwaittoseeyou203 let’s not make excuses for murderers with no conscious. I have had a very abusive childhood to the point where i haven’t seen my mother since i was 13 or 14. I’ve been raped and beaten and let me tell you not only way bullying very low on my trauma list, at the end of the day I went to therapy to address my pain, I didn’t ignore responsibility for my actions because I’ve been hurt before. Mental health is your own personal responsibility and it does NOT give you the right to lash out at people. So many people have been actually abused and they don’t do any of the evil shit he did, even without the murder, he’s still a deadbeat dad who a abandoned his kid and take zero responsibility for any of his actions. People like him don’t deserve any excuses to hide behind.

This story saddens me more than Jennifer Pan's story. At least in Jennifer's story, she suffered more abuse from her dad than this man, as in many Asian culture, they have a male chauvinism way of thinking. I was mistreated by my own family thanks to me being a girl, but to the extend of murdering them so brutally is not something you should do. Many people are abused or neglected by their parents, some more than the others but we don't choose such a foolish methods of payback.

Henry definitely deserved what he got, but i wonder if his parents actually treated him well. Or just threw money his way to pretend to be a happy family. I know chinese culture, family reputation is often seen the most important. Sending henry to Australia because he wasn't doing well in Hong Kong. Doesnt sounds like it's out of love... more like the parents didn't want him around. Wasnt right what he did, becoming a leech all that. But do you really think the parents are guilt free?

    Several things:
    1. I agree Chau at the very least developed extreme narcissism. I personally would go as far as sociopathy, but I'm not a psychiatrist.
    2. Basically, he deserved his sentence, glad Angus got out.
    3. Obviously I don't think his parents should've been murdered. But it's maybe premature to say that Henry's parents wanted him to be a happy man.
    4. Asian parents, speaking from experience. Are generally not very socially or emotionally intelligent and will push for material progress at the expense of mental health. But who knows, maybe Henry's parents were against the mold.
    5. Asian parents tend to show their affection in other ways which is buying you things, spending a lot of money investing in education/skills, even if they aren't necessarily what you asked for. They essentially project their idea of success onto you.
    6. So with these kinds of discussions, the question always comes back to this, how much is the development of a child due to nature or nurture? I usually lean more towards the nurture side, though I remember hearing a Psychiatrist say there's good research that shows that Psychopathy is genetic and due to physical differences in the brain, maybe there's similar things to be said for other conditions.
    7. I think people take having children way too lightly. It's not just a matter of money, raising them to be good people is vital to not only you but the world, and I generally believe that can only be done with relatively well-adjusted people as well. If you don't, maybe you'll be lucky and raise a working member of society who 'only' becomes a narcissist, or you'll get 'unlucky' and raise a sociopath/criminal that the rest of us may have to deal with.

I’m still trying to understand how we all have a part creating a monster. There is a difference between a person doing it to themselves and another the public did it. With these cases I keep questioning a lot how the physiological mind works. It’s a work of art but yet so confusing.
It reminds me how bullying hurts people over time. Just so much plays part it hurts my brain sometimes 😅 because also you can’t help someone if they don’t want to be helped. I’m sure his parents did their best to give their child support but it didn’t help.
