      Hehe, yup, same here, exactly same experience in Italy at the time. Got a used W-30 because I couldn't afford the S1000. Plenty of mom & pop stores with (now) vintage synths, see the popular DJs at records stores in Rome, rave party every weekend. All that of course doesn't exist anymore, especially the musical instruments stores, unfortunately...

    My ears might be fractionally younger, but I'd swear that the original track includes a really hard-driving naval/ military beat on the snare drum.
    I really enjoyed this. Still sounds as other-worldly in 2020 as it did in '89!

    • @SynthManiaDotCom
      @SynthManiaDotCom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you might be mishearing the closed hi-hat for the snare drum

      Thanks for the reply 😊
      I'm inclined to agree with you regarding the hi-hat.
      Though, on the original...
      th-cam.com/video/XvqSnSSF2i4/w-d-xo.html
      Im pretty sure there's another snare, and it becomes particularly apparent when it does a wee roll/ fill between 3:30 and 3:35.
      If Gerald did use another drum track, it's so well embedded as to be almost subliminal.
      Hope I haven't ruined your weekend 😕

    • @SynthManiaDotCom
      @SynthManiaDotCom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't hear a snare roll/fill between 3:30 and 3:35 - again, are you sure you're not hearing the SH-101 synth sequence instead?

I've been watching your show for years.Its so amazing that you've had time to have children with all that gear around.I did like the one were your kids were playing the 303 and 808.I tried to get my children to play with synthesizers but not a chance.The old gear I own is casio fz1 roland jx1 alexis mmt8 quasimidi technox.My new gear I own is korg electribe 2 red and blue ones ,roland boutiques 303 808 909 d50 se02 sh01a vp03..

    • @SynthManiaDotCom
      @SynthManiaDotCom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I don't have a real piano at the moment ☹ (I need to get at least a digital piano soon) but every now and then I'll play some piano music on demos - for example in this JP-80 vid I play a bit of boogie at the 2min34sec mark: th-cam.com/video/KeBZiqglM58/w-d-xo.html

      @@GNeuman yes because it's about that genuine quality, genuine equiment. It's more than just making sound, it's about honouring legacy. To genuine collectors and those that can do so with recreating music like this I certainly applaud.
      It's like car restoration for music.
