What should you consider before starting your plastering business and what should you charge?
Let me introduce myself my name is Stu Roberts I have been in the plastering business / self employment game for 20 years I am also the founder of Trowel Talk Plasterers Community group & Podcast.
I also coach self employed plasterers helping them to leverage their skills and knowledge to maximise their opportunities and earning potential.
A big problem for newly self employed plasterers is finding work.
Another big problem for newly self employed plasterers is pricing work and dealing with tax and trying to manage their social media and marketing. Unfortunately they often fall prey to expensive lead gen sites or social media management/ website companies who charge them thousands of pounds but deliver no real tangible results.
As sad as it sounds many of these companies exploit tradesmen and are out purley to make as much money off the working man as possible.
In my early years I made all of these mistakes and wasted thousands on companies promising me big results but all I had was an empty wallet and no work coming in. This is when I decided to learn everything I could on organic marketing and started to generate my own leads and manage my own websites I emersed myself in everything "Google" which has completely changed the game for me and has done the same for many of my coaching group members too.
What's insane is 99% of lead generation online can be done for FREE using a smartphone. But because tradespeople predominantly work with their hands on the tools they have never took the time to learn the skills and strategies to bring in organic leads and so they end up paying out thousands to companies like checkatrade who last year made a sickening profit of almost 60 million pounds off the back of the working man by selling on customer contact details for extortionate prices.

Yes, most of my working life I was addicted!! - to HARD Work - Not SMART work.... Yes, the 'hard work' paid Me More! Than any other spreads I knew - And the financial rewards were great!! ... But the old body PAID!! For that Money - many times over 🥺 ... Had I put more 'thought' into my working life things could've been better! 👍🤠

I've been there too and it's something we see time and time again on the community group plasterers working themselves to death! But it doesn't have to be this way set up your marketing right, specialise and attract the right customers and you can make plenty of money without ruining your body.
