  • The Jaguar XK represents excellent bang for buck value on the used car market, from the base model XK's to supercharged XKR's. And anyone who follows Beards 'n Cars knows the sheer amount of content I've produced about the Jaguar XK range, from reviews, to Rivals showdowns, to best and worst countdowns. But somehow I actually managed to forget to do an actual long-term review of my time with an X150 shape Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged Coupe from 2007.
    So let's condense down some of my key thoughts on the good and not so good points of XKR ownership for this long term owners review of the Jaguar XKR.

    In my experience of driving the XK and XKR, these cars are very reliable, beautiful and drive fantastically.

    I have a 2009 XKR Portfolio model. Two tires, new headliner and re-surfacing the front brake rotor's after I bought it two years ago and it has been maintenance free since then. Not a daily driver, just a weekend warrior....great car for the money -100k new, bought it for 20k with 70k miles on it.

    I've had my 2007 XK Coupe for 12 years now, and it has been the best car I've ever owned. 134k miles and going strong with nothing but maintenance.

      I'm seriously considering one. If it's anything like my Rover ownership of this era, it's a breeze compared to my old Discovery 2.

      @livestock9722 I have 2 D2's also. I'm just a glutton for punishment! Although one is being turned into an LS powered "super" D2.

      I'm looking at an 07 xk right now with 95k miles.. how much do you pay a year roughly for it? Is it hard to find parts?

    • @RoverLanding-Adventures
      @RoverLanding-Adventures หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JoJo-209- the only costs I currently have are insurance and fuel. If you don't know the maintenance history of the car I'd budget accordingly. Lots of items will be ready for replacement around 100k miles. I went from driving 80 miles a day four years ago to about 1000 miles a year now. It is very easy to get parts for, maintenance items are readily available.

    Almost a yewr year in on 2010 5.0 litre XKR. No major issues. Had to replace water pump and hoses, the rear bushings were rattling. I had that fixed. The car is superb, a lot of comments and compliments. I absolutely love it and would ger another. Thank you for the great commentary. You are spot on here.
    This is not my daily, as I i have 3 other cars (85 380SL, 85 300D, 1988 FJ62) Will get a Range Rover, then i am done. Really.
    Excellent work man

    Likewise.. I've owned my 2007 XKR coupe since 2010, used it as my daily driver from 2010-2021 (including in the snow) and now it shares usage with a 2017 CLS63. The XKR remains the most reliable, the most comfortable and the best looking car I have owned - period. Quick, agile, fast-revving, responsive and stunning when it's clean (great looking otherwise) ..to think that you can buy this kind of performance for less than $25k is crazy.

      @@Andino. At that price, it’s worth checking out. If it’s been well cared for you won’t find better performance and styling at that price or anything close to it. Be sure to send a photo to all if you get it.

      @Andino. 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @JBM07XKR I don't think I'll get to know the maintenance history of the car, people here simply don't take extra time to document all of that and Carfax is not s big thing here either so yeah. I'll call the dealership tomorrow and see what's up. Mayne try dropping it down to 15K since I know the car has been sitting their for some time and for obvious reasons, not ma y people are willing to take a risk on such car

    I have just bought a 2007 xk and loving ! Been watching these videos and all I’m hearing is bushes and oil changes lol ! My last car was an Audi a4 2.0l diesel , I had to rebuild the engine and this year replaced the gearbox, clutch , flywheel , front brakes , ac compressor and then it needed an engine mount so I got rid of it and got the jaaaag 👍

    Love the review, especially on a daily driver. The only issue we've had in the past five years was a coolant leak. I caught it right away, so no big problem. All those crap plastic connectors and tiny plastic elbows are disasters waiting to happen. Especially with a supercharger making extra heat.
    If you've ever seen the motor out of the car, all the coolant lines/pipes look like they were designed by the Three Stooges. 🙂

    Water pumps are another common issue on these, especially on the 5.0. The stock pumps are not great. I just got mine replaced a couple months ago to the tune of $1260. Besides oil changes, that's the only thing I've had to do to it in a year and a half of ownership, and it didn't stop the car from running or anything since it had just started leaking a little and they found it during an inspection. All in all no complaints, these things are a joy to drive, and generally reliable. They aren't temperamental princesses that need to be in the shop every other week, unlike some other cars in its class.

    I’ve had my car new since September 2009 , it’s a 2010 jaguar XKR , after I had to change the battery after four years once they put the new battery in then it all of a sudden it started to drain so I could never have my car sit more than like 2 to 4 days without driving it other wise the battery would die. The other thing was I when I moved from Las Vegas to Florida I went and had my air conditioning fixed over at Jaguar in Fort Lauderdale and right after I fixed the air conditioning the dashboard peeled back so now my dashboard looks yucky and Jaguar wanted $4000 to fix it and happened right after I came back from the dealership so the battery the dashboard, and then now and then there’s like a few maintenance like the pipe for the coolant, I still have a little issue with the battery and then I have to like just charge it or if something weird happens with some electric stuff I just reboot it so I’ve gotten to know this car pretty well , I know all its little glitches the most recent one ,now I cannot get my phone to connect my iphone 14 to the Bluetooth
    I also cannot play music from my phone , thinking they are just not compatible now , my car is getting old . I’m getting it painted and fixed up , and I’m going to fix the dash , my poor car is in the elements I don’t have a garage on my ranch here in NM I always had a garage and tbe car stayed beautiful, sucks , and my loser husband won’t put a car port up for me , I bought temp one , I’m going to have to hire someone to put it up , kinda heavy , I want to fix this car up good and keep it think it’s will look beautiful for another 20 years

    There doesn't look like a lot of headroom in the car. Your head looks like it is making contact with the headlining. I take on board your height of 6ft 3ins, but I would have still expected some clearance once the seat was adjusted accordingly.

    These are cheap nowadays for some reason. I'm itching to maybe swap my mustang for this. There's one very clean and nice 2006 with 68k miles cheap in my town. But the practicality and boot space in the thing that's stopping me maybe.

So I'd say to anyone reading this and watching this video; if this ticks your boxes... Get one. They're solid but don't forget you're buying a sports car not a family car.

    Looking at a 07 xk with 95k miles, guy wants $9500 for it and says it runs great ... would you say the base model xk is reliable ? Or should i stay away from it

    • @HSGAutomotive
      @HSGAutomotive  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah the base XK is at least as reliable as the R, possibly moreso because of having less power to handle

    • @JOHNDOE-gl2ic
      @JOHNDOE-gl2ic หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 07s generally have a proven reputation of toughness and reliability over time. But lets step away from that for a moment.
      From now on, quit shopping for 'cars' and start shopping for car 'owners'. 'Who' you're looking for is that freak 2007 XK owner who won't stop talking about he changed the oil perfectly on time, how he WD-40'd the tire valve stem caps every 3,000 miles and how he kept the car in the garage under a nitrogen vacuum.......... you get the idea.
      The opposite of that guy is somebody who says, "DUDE, it drives great" and just stands there with his fingers crossed.
      Find the right owner and you'll find the right car.

      I had this issue 2 times on my ‘07 XKR Conv. In fact it is the only “annoying issue” I’ve had. The proper fix involves removing the gearbox or the dashboard for the replacement of the duckbill hose. I solved the issue by myself cutting/pinching the duckbill with a razor blade making some contortionist moves. Not easy at all. Great car anyway, my M3 and my S8 now don’t leave the garage.
