Bought this knife 5 years ago. One of the best i have. The reason is simple Lightweight, Holds and edge. Today I gave this knife to my son in the hopes he can give it to his, because that's how simple and beautiful this knife is.
Love the knife, love the company. Wore out one in five years of hard labor in the trades and they replaced it. Giving everyone a kobun for the holidays.
I like the kobun because it looks more traditional than most modern tanto knives. But i held the thing in my hands at a knife store and the handle was way too tiny, i came to the store specifically for the kobun, and was sort of underwhelmed. But i bought the tanto lite and norse hawk, for under 100 bucks altogether and they have not disappointed me.
*A Kobun in CTS-XHP, OR 3V, Please!* This incredible knife needs to be done in a powdered steel. I have the Carbon V version, and, it ROCKS! For years I wondered "What if?" Y'all have made the best move in Cold Steel's history by stepping up to the powdered steels. Keep heading in this direction! BTW, putting my money where my mouth is, I have The SRK, and, the Recon Tanto in 3V, three Recon 1's two large, and, the XL clip point. All bought this year after finding out about you guys moving to the powdered steels.
Next time you dont want an old ammo can send it to me, i will take care of it so you dont have to put the poor thing down. Poor ammo can never saw it coming, RIP ammo can, you will be remembered.
lucian did you know there always 1 in a 1,0000 chance to have a flaw so I say this knife is a flaw, but besides that the knife is excellent I bought one and I'm super happy with it.
I see a lot of the “knife community” hate on cold steel, but honestly they are just steel/titanium snobs that want pocket jewelry that doubles as a fidget toy so they can look cool when they film themselves opening an Amazon package. When I buy a cold steel knife I never worry about it failing me.
I have just ordered a Kobun and after watching this video I'm interested to know whilst I'm using it, does Cold Steel recommend making grunting noises, sound effects and pulling faces to aid with the cutting and usability of this knife? Looking forward to its arrival!
Needs a belt clip that won't slip off a belt. And a slightly larger cross guard so there is no danger of slicing off four fingers if a stab hits a hard barrier with a less than optimal grip. Other than that, great fighting knife.
Looks impressive in the video. i just got one of these. #1 requirement for me in a knife is that it cuts. A simple test - take a roll of paper towels and draw the edge across it. i keep cheap rolls of paper towels just for this test. The Kobun i received failed miserably, just slid across the roll of paper towels, hardly leaving so much as a crease. MTechs do better than that. Maybe i got the one here after it had been through a few ammo cans. The old United Cutlery tanto with brass guard and pommel that i picked up at a garage sale for $3 does WAY better (and has a sheath that can be worn vert, horiz, inside or outside belt and the blade is reversible in the sheath for left or right handed). i mean, even my Kershaw Camp 10... Also noticing after taking the knife in and out of the sheath just a few times that there's these little black flakes showing up; suspecting the two nubs on the sheath that hold the knife in are abrading the guard. Can't possibly be that the blade's shaving the sheath. Not much of a matter personally; bought the thing as a laboratory specimen, didn't have a sample of Aus8. Aus8 has a reputation for being pretty tough but also especially that it can take a really fine edge. Got a 9" blade in 1095 that is my favorite letter opener. It's a little big to go slipping under the flap but it's just so much fun to use it to shave the top 1/32 of an inch off the envelope. 1095 can take a pretty fine edge, we'll see what the Aus8 can do.
@@yeahbaby214heheh2 i did. But if you put it back in the sheath and take it out again, it will once again not pass the 'will it slice a roll of paper towels?' test.
I like the knife but the metal clip on the sheath is terrible. When you draw the knife, the sheath comes with it...not exactly ideal in a self defense situation. This is the first cold steel product I have been disappointed with (and I own at least 20 of their knives and other products.) Very surprising since their designs always seem to be well thought out.
Mine just has good retention. It's easy enough to quickly press on the sheath and then draw the blade (if carried inside the wasteband). Just a bit of technique difference but personally I appreciate the strong retention.
Brodie Dowdy it's a fighting knife, I doubt you have to fight a brick wall. Even though he was stabbing an ammo crate, The kobun was held in an ice pick grip (thumb on the pommel) but regardless I think the handle has enough traction anyways.
cut the "guard" rubber that protrudes, might solve problem, but it might fall out of sheath... or look if wrapping the handle with paracord changes something... but again, i know you guys in Russia have to carry a document with your blades, if i remember it correctly, some stupid laws...
I received my new Kobun a couple weeks ago. I wish I hadn’t purchased it. The knife wasn’t sharp AT ALL. Wouldn’t even cut newspaper. Very disappointed. Other than that it’s a ok knife. Nothing special. The handle is quite narrow. The blade is nothing special. I would recommend the 7in tanto recon. That’s a great knife. I have a few cold steel knives and they were all good. The Kobun frankly sucks.
these guys must love their jobs
gregory james ik i would if i was there XD
I would

This review makes me happy that I ended up buying one for the light use I'd be giving it
Everyone... hey I didn't get one..
All you guys are calling him dog the bounty hunter, but it's clearly Zakk Wylde
I would have to nickname the first dude..."Tactical ABBA".
No
Looks more like a Tactical Dog Catcher. Tough to take seriously
His hair is so glorious
Great knife just ordered a second one. One for use and one for collection:)
This is a collector, no doubt about it. I do the same, but I use to pick three.
My favorite fixed blade I've ever owned
Cool knife, im getting tempted

More beautiful than the G.I. one and the Leatherneck Tanto is pretty good looking too
I love the time traveller guy at the beginning
Got this knife, now I need the master Tanto
I wonder what the edge looks like after these tests
Dog the bounty Hunters little brother should not be doing demo's. You can tell he is not skilled.
But he is having so much fun, haha.
THANK YOU the freak is annoying
The way he stands at 10 sec proves otherwise. ..
That guy is Buck Medley he is not related to Dog The Bounty Hunter.

A danish guy been contacted by the Police for purchasing a neckknife. The "neckknife" that he has bought is this !!!
Has my kobun always been magnetic? Never noticed years ago.
looks like short knife. and awesome.
and looks like 14.6cm rihgt?
South Korea can have the knife of 15cm

If only it had a handle like the Cold Steel SRK it would be perfect
Is the dude in the beginning "Beef Supreme" from Idiocracy?
I got this knife and checked the tang with a magnet. Enough tang for me. Kobun was so beautiful so I decided to keep it forever.

you can but replacement clips on amazon. makes the knife far more usable
Tec lock
i wrapped the handle with paracord on this one for more secure grip.
I didnt kno kobun meant can opener
Just bought mine hahaa so much fun
Could you please assist what is the sharpening angle of Kobun (and Recon Tanto)
A bit late to the party, but these come sharpened at an 18 degree angle. Sharpening at 20 degrees will do.
Freudians would say someone is insecure about their manhood.
What's the Rockwell hardness on this knife?
К сожалению для компании и к счастью для потребителей сейчас Китай штампует довольно качественные реплики. В том числе и этого ножа в 4 раза дешевле..
knife looks good but why is dog the bounty hunter in the beginning lol
ruben Ramirez hahahaha!!!!
Is it full tang? I ordered online this knife so I might return it if it's partial once I get it and know for sure. I'd love to keep it tho.
Did anyone ever tell you that it was indeed full tang? cause it is!!!
What happened to the larger ones?
I had one. My brother stole it to buy some freaking dope.
I LOVE cold steel knives but there kryptonite is hacking wood.
Brother buck!
Make in d2 with a slightly longer handle
HELL NOOOO your gonna slide down that blade buddy with no guard.

Hammer grip is more safe, ive cut my hand numerous times as a kid doin this
The knife is nice and light... probably why they went with a narrow handle...even so, it is adequate to get a good secure grip...even with big hands.
0:00-0:09 is the world's sexiest man lol
Is it his aus8a steel
Yes it's aus 8, but nobody does aus8 better!!! And it's a heck of a knife for 40 bucks or less!!!
This is fulltang or not?
Yup
@@andrewtownsend1046 +1 on that yup!!!
