There's a great moment at around the 40 second mark. Notice how the Newfie let the boy lead until he saw the bikes coming, at which point he took over and put himself in between bikes and boy to protect the kid. And then once the bikes passed he went right back to letting the kid think he was in charge. That is a wonderful dog.

This is so reminiscent of our Newf. Saturday morning the little girl next door would
knock and ask if she could take Livingston for a walk. Away they would go, one
little girl with one giant dog. Priceless.

As the cyclists approached he put his body between them and the kid. Very smart dog. What a good boy. This was 14 years ago so I imagine he is no longer with us. Caspar must be in college by now too.

Newfies are so easy to walk. We had border collies before and they take you for a walk. Newfies walk with you, as Casper demonstrates here.

My Newfoundland would walk on as if tethered to a strong cord, when actially, he had a frayed rope draped under his chin, so utterly worthless! They are such easygoing dogs.
