I enjoy these videos, thank you for sharing. Speaking of breaking up roots, I planted a potentilla I got on sale late fall. It never did much and struggled for a year, losing folige and always looking dry. This spring I thought to put it in a more moist area, althought I thought they love dry areas. When moving it I noticed the roots were still very much in the shape of the original pot-- a very dry hard and compact mass. I cut off the edges of the mass with a gardening knife and fairly aggressively broke up the rest, and it seems to be recovering.

Grit is also used for chickens in North America and that is what I use for garden grit. There are two sizes #1 grit or #2. Small or larger size of grit.

Hello Rosy, I visited my daughter in South Africa, Kwazulu Natal for 3 months, October to January.
I lived in Johannesburg all my life before coming to England 19 years ago.
I was amazed to see different flowers in the wild.
Straw flowers, but only yellow, gladioly(sp?) Yellowish orange, white arum lilies and what we call black eyed susies, not the Rudbeckia, but the climbing one.
It is a subtropical climate and sugar cane is farmed.
Very strange climate for a Joburger, with a wonderful kind climate.
The heat and humidity was terrible, but when it gets cold you know it.
I didn't mind the cold in UK when I came back.

Re thinning : in the peach orchards in Italy, owners thin neighboring orchards and vice versa because over time it has become obvious that the primary caregiver is unable to thin adequately, too many baby peaches remained on the tree leading to undersized fruit.
Yes fruit trees need the fruit thinning and also a summer prune to help with ripening

Re: grit. In the US I’ve purchased “chicken grit” at feed/farm stores. That’s all I’ve been able to find. Might be similar for the questioner.

I'm so disappointed with my peonies too. I have three; one of them manages three blooms a year, the other two have never flowered.
Give them a shock by lifting and more food. If this does not work try new ones
Hi Rosy - I have a climbing bright red rose (no idea of name) on a west facing trellis that has grown vigorously but there isn’t a single bud in sight. The yellow climbing rose next to it has got a lot of buds….help!!
Similarly, a hebe planted 18 months ago by this trellis looks healthy but has not bloomed…
The Red rose may have needed a different harsh pruning regime or it is later bloomer so be patient it is early in the season here in the UK. The Hebe will also be a bit later I would say as the weather has not been good and they need more warmth

What happens if the blooms turn brown and die? Brown curled leaves too. Should I discard?
