how to build an Arduino Sound Silencer

  • This project started with some loud neighbors, and I had to find a way to tone the noise down. So I built a sound silencer
This box makes loud human sounds stop. It does that by finding the exact phase of the soundwave, and then inverting it, and sending it back to the source. Just kidding. This box detects loud continuous sounds (think neighbors having a party at midnight). When a loud continuous sound is detected, the box will start outputting an annoying sound of its own. Hopefully, that will make the noisy party go away.

I have to admit that intro got me. Genius solution!

I do wish we /could/ do phase detection though

I am going to create your project as barking control device for my Schnauzer when he is home alone. That way I can record my voice to help control his anxiety when left alone. I will post an update when completed. Already have sketch saved to nano, waiting on other components to finish build. Thank you for all the great details.

Nice project...that's one of my favorite arduino shield type boards too.

I feel so lazy using it, but I can't help myself

And how exactly did you stop your loud neighbor with this?

Hi, good work! But, do you have any project with audio feedback?

This sounds like a Homer invention

Where was this 20 years ago when we had noisy people living in the apartment below us? I would've loved to have hooked this up to a 500W Marshall stack 😂

You played guitar? I used to own a Marshall

@@IOLlama I used to until my gorgeous Washburn got stolen (right before I was about to trade it in for a Les Paul). After that, I kinda lost the heart for it. I still have a Strat, but I don't pick it up as often as I should. :)

Both a Fender and a Les Paul? That's like having a split personality

If anyone has made this project let me know. I have an issue where the countdown is in a continuous loop counting down and cycling with or without a sound sensor attached.
