It’s May 8 2024 and I’m listening to this beautiful rendition of this love song. Dusty, Karen gone too soon. Thankful for the music they left behind. Richard is a genius. Thank you for this music and memories.
Dusty is phenomenal, even at almost 50 years old when this was recorded she still had her full vocal range and expression. Richard wrote a beautiful song, but it's all Dusty singing it and making it come alive. RIP Queen Dusty.
@@CarolHighfill Richard Carpenter didn't write the lyrics, Pamela Phillips Oland did, Richard Carpenter wrote the music. It's the lead vocalist who gets top billing on a song.
If anyone was to sing this brilliant song it was Karen but Dusty certainly pulls it off with ease. Great arrangement and Dustys vocal is as clean and perfect as Richards music. Poor Dusty and Karen are stars shining in the sky and their legacy of music means that they will not be forgotten, entertaining generations as they always have. ❤
I'll tell ya...this is one of my favorite songs to slow dance too and NO ONE..NO ONE can sing it like Dusty! Rest in peace, dear lady! Those of us who appreciate a TRUE vocalist miss you very much!
Richard Carpenter is a class act all the way. I feel like he's been a friend of mine my whole life, and the same with Barry ... thanks, guys, for all the music.
I couldn't agree with you more. I read that Karen idolized Dusty Springfield's voice, as so many others did. Both ladies had remarkable phrasing and emotion. And what voices !!
As a teen in the late 70's/early 80's I LOVED THE CARPENTERS! I wore their albums out. I recently read "Little Girl Blue" and since then have searched You Tube for any memories of Richard and Karen. What a talented, amazing gift Richard and Karen have given to our lifetime. I came across this video today and truly enjoyed it. Richard looks very happy and he and Dusty together, although different, were so good together. It was a nice memory to come across today. Thank you for all you have done Richard!
A veritable masterclass in songwriting, arrangement, and the art of singing; even the music alone can tug the heartstrings. I cannot help feeling a bit wistful, wondering how Karen would have done it.
This was a hit for Richard and Dusty here in the US, Canada and Australia. It was a top easy listening hit, received weeks of Radio play and featured daily on VH1.
This is an excellent song. I think one reason it wasn't bigger (aside from the transition of the decade of the 1980s) is that it served as a haunting reminder of what was.
There was a certain face That filled a thousand nights With all the sweetest dreams And promises of paradise But that face was gone When the dawn would come and steal you Yet, I still could feel you Waiting just a kiss away I'd surely know your face Your love would cast a spell I'd recognize each curve and line of you, I knew it well Now at last you're here and I can tell Something in your eyes I see Is all I ever wanted And something in your smile for me Is calling out my name Your eyes, it seems Are mirrors of my dreams In ways I can't explain. And my heart will never be the same We never said a word As if we'd always known But through the bittersweet of waiting We were not alone Now we're close enough For the touch of love to find us Fantasies designed us But they never really could Begin to measure you No pictures ever do And as I watch you framed in sunlight In a sky of blue I know what my life's been leading to Something in your eyes I see Is all I ever wanted And something in your smile for me Is calling out my name Your eyes, it seems Are mirrors of my dreams In ways I can't explain. And my heart will never be the same Something in your eyes I see Is all I've ever wanted And something in your smile for me Is calling out my name Your eyes, it seems Are mirrors of my dreams In ways I can't explain. And my heart will never be the same And my heart will never be the same Something in your eyes
Beautiful song. Richard Carpenter should get credit for composing/arranging, but I think the Dusty Springfield should have gotten standard headline credit as the lead singer.
This was from his solo album. The song was originally intended for Karen to sing but Dusty made a guest appearance on vocals. You can tell by the tone and the key that it was written with Karen in mind, but Dusty does a great job.
I'm surprised how much Dusty was able, despite having a totally different vocal timbre and a lot more soul in her voice, to capture Karen's vocal inflection. I chalk it up to Richard's production skills.
This was an amazing song. I first discovered it by buying Richard Carpenter's CD when I saw Dusty was singing on it. Too bad it never made it big but I will always remember it.

And my heart will never be the same
We never said a word
As if we'd always known
But through the bittersweet of waiting
We were not alone
Now we're close enough
For the touch of love to find us
Fantasies designed us
But they never really could
Begin to measure you
No pictures ever do
And as I watch you framed in sunlight
In a sky of blue
I know what my life's been leading to
Something in your eyes I see

That filled a thousand nights
盈溢在千百個夜晚
With all the sweetest dreams

和天堂的誓約
But that face was gone
但那容顏已消逝
When the dawn would come and steal you
當黎明前來將你偷走
Yet I still could feel you
我依然可以感覺到你
Waiting just a kiss away
等在一個吻之外
I'd surely know your face
我當然認得你的容顏
When love would cast its spell

I'd recognize each curve and line of you
我能辨認出你身上的每一道弧線
I know it well
