I agree. Demonstrations are much more helpful then listening to someone talk. Isn’t that what TH-cam is for? Sitting and talking into a camera isn’t the best use of this video could have been a written blog.

That’s a fair point. I’m a home inspector and don’t personally have a jetted tub anymore, so I filmed this at a home we were inspecting. I obviously couldn’t go through the cleaning procedure at someone else’s house (and I didn’t know the people selling the home), but I still wanted to make the video in case it could help anyone. Fortunately, it apparently has because several people commented that they were able to clean their tubs by just watching the video and not seeing each step performed.

@@Vohicks Some people learn better by listening rather than reading. It's not rocket science pouring some bleach and detergent in a jet tub and running it through the jets. No one is forcing you to watch.

You can remove the suction cap and clean it - that's usually where most of the buildup is rather than the jets themselves. There should be a cap that looks like a speaker and has 1 or 2 screws holding it in. just unscrew that and clean that cap, also put a hot rag into the suction cavity itself and clean it.

@@jacquelinegrace3 Lol. It's the big screw that some tubs have to control the jets. Usually a big plastic screw on the top of the tub you can turn to make the jets blow harder. All it does is let more air get sucked in to create a more powerful jet.

use a good amount of bleach, don't use any soap detergent, you'll notice bubbles being to form, these are just oxygen bubbles being created from the mold dying off, its a bucket just toss it in a shower run cold water over the bubbles will get rid of them. once bubbles stop forming you'll know the mold has been killed off. then do another rinse with warm water and bleach again this time with a little soap detergent to help rinse out the jets, then just rinse normally with cold water. the first time you fill it i recommend using quite a bit of bleach as if its a bad buildup you're going to want a higher concentration. hope this helps if it does let me know would like to know. Also you can hire a professional cleaner to clean the jets as well.

I just learned that my jets can unscrew from where they are in the tub. I had just done the deep clean like you suggested (learned elsewhere but just passing time watching TH-cam tip videos) but wanted to try and soak the jets to remove rust build up on them. When I pulled them out- gross! Lots of dead skin and other nasties were behind the jets still. They are presently soaking and I am going to scrub them up good and screw them back in a few more minutes. Thanks for the great tips.

@@NaomiTCOOKIES My favorite and fastest way to remove rust is to use a little Lysol toilet bowl cleaner on the rust. Used to put some on the hard water buildup in my tub when I was cleaning and then wipe it off and rinse. Wear gloves as it can be strong.
When I was cleaning the rust out of my toilet tank, I believe I used citric acid. Moved two years ago so I don't quite remember what tricks I discovered then for rust removal as I was deep cleaning to sell our country home.

Recently bought a home with this situation. Water was even green! Over the past 4 months, I've used detergent twice, vinegar water twice, and rinsed after each process 3-4 times! I also disassembled the jets and intake and cleaned them. The green is gone, but I'm still getting a ton of black flakes shooting out during each initial startup. What else can I do besides using a ton of water and rinse???

Use a vinegar rinse of 1 Qt. After you get out and let it run 15-30 minutes. Make sure your jets are submerged. Doing this every time and you will not have that problem. It’s cause by a buildup of oil and dirt from your skin and bacterial buildup in the lines and pump. BTW our tub seats 2 people and is 65 gallon. Hope this helps. Then the 4th week use liquid pool chlorine and run the same. We never had that problem again. Best wishes❤..

Bought a house with a 25 year old jetted tub in the bathroom. I’m terrified to put water in it. Haven’t tried it once in the year we’ve lived here. I don’t think it saw a lot of use and I’m afraid it may leak if we give it a go (it’s on the 2nd floor). Based on other things I’m not sure the previous owners would have mentioned if it wasn’t in great shape. I’ve been saying, “Let’s just wait until we have some extra money…we can have it inspected and professionally cleaned…have someone make sure the motor is in working order before we just fill it and turn it on and see what sort of damage it does to the space below.” That said…I have no idea given all of the components…what type of professional would do this job. I also have no idea where the motor is because it’s a strange set up. It’s centered against the far wall in the room over the garage of our house. There’s no pre cut opening under the front of the tub. A home inspector told us that it was really easy to work on because the motor is accessible easily from the attic eves of the house…there are unfinished storage areas in either side that would lead to the space outside of the bathroom in the attic eves where the motor supposedly is for easy access. Great! However, we had plumbers out and they could not find the motor on either side and looked bewildered about how it had been described to us by the inspector. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Is there someone that just maintains tubs (motor, plumbing, and all?) that we could have some take a look? Just need to know where to start. Appreciate any tips. Thank you.
