Great video and brings back wonderful memories. I kind of hate to see what they have done there, but realize that they had to. Part of Elvis' Blue Hawaii was filmed right there.. When I used to live there it was incredible. There was no way down except by a small trail with a couple of steps here and there, and that was a beautiful walkway. There were no fees to get in, and no theater or any other buildings. In fact there were never many people there! There were no housing developments to be seen anywhere around there. To me it was the most beautiful place in the world. One day I'll get back there.
As much as Hanauma Bay is beautiful and great to swim with the fish 🐟 as a tourist it’s a complete pain in the arse process to get there. First you have to be on their web site at 7am ,then be lucky enough to select a time slot. Plus it’s not open Mon and Tuesday. Then you have to get there as the bus does not go there anymore , you have to hire a car/ bike/uber etc more expensive. Then when you get there you have to wait for your time slot to be called, grrrrrr to enter the bay and they do check your your ID, Watch the movie (which is not good in clarity- needs to be updated) then you are able to go to the bay. Did I enjoy the bay , yes but getting tickets and transport is a pain.
It is so unfortunate that they canceled the bus route! And I agree with you, the process is getting more and more complicated but the bay is still worth the visit in the end.
Beautiful video. Brings back lots of memories. In 1977 I bicycle toured the islands and spent some time here. My bags were so heavy I had to walk my bike down. There was a ranger and his fam who lived down there and ran the food conversion and they were super nice to me. The ranger allowed me to camp down there which I did for three nights. Tourists during the day. And no one after dark. Crazy and magical. I know he was breaking the rules so don't tell anyone. 😄
Honestly, it’s hard to tell but even if it rains, it’s not too terrible unless there is a severe storm passing over the island. Overall you should be able to enjoy it. ;)
I was here in the eighties with two dollar fish food and lots of people. Elvis shot at this beach so replicate his movie spot! Beautiful fish...don’t mess with the coral though😊
😮I was there fifty years ago and wow it has changed. I was eighteen back then loved this location and the toilet bowl which I understand is closed . Kaneohe bay was another one.
It’s always great to hear feedback from someone who has seen it a long time ago. The video they show has some footage from a long time ago and it did look different and less crowded!
Yes you can but I’m not sure how much they are. Probably around $10. Or you can rent a full gear package and save some money. But they do have plenty of vests.

Are drones allowed here? I understand the FAA allows it but you know some local authorities have their own laws. Didn’t see any no drone signs when I went
@@justjournalinghawaii thank you for the reply I went and they do tell you during the presentation no drones. Since the FAA doesn’t prohibit it I suppose if you take off and land outside their property there is no law prohibiting it only problem is maintaining line of sight.
@@speedbird7976 thank you for letting me know. What I had to do is hike up the ridge and flew from the top but LOS was still a challenge. You can also fly from the lookout at the parking lot but still have the same issue. The drone just blends too much with the ocean… I hope you enjoyed your visit!
With the amount of people going there every day, it’s actually considered to be in great shape. I think it got a chance to recover substantially during Covid, when no one was going there.
His voice is like music!!! AMAZING!!!!
Mahalo!😊

Thank you for sharing! That does sound like it was a different world back then... a much simpler one :)

Wow that's such an amazing story! No one is allowed there after dark (probably not even the ranger). I wish you had a video of that! :)
@@justjournalinghawaii Me too. At least watching vids like yours helps perk my memory cells. 😃
@@leahi5413 I’m so glad to hear that! We have many more to come so please stay tuned! Aloha!
It’s coming!!
Hii, awesome video. How crowded does it get in December?
The closer you get to Christmas, the more crowded it gets. But in the beginning of December is not bad.
@@justjournalinghawaii aw, awesome. Thank you for the prompt response. Another question, how’s the weather? Is it too rainy?

Very cool 😎
Thank you! 😊

I loved the little black puffer fish.😊
I didn’t think about Elvis filming here but now I have to go back and replicate for sure! I just wish we could still get $2 fish food … 😔
I wondered about all the sunscreen! 😉
The statistics are very scary!
Can I get your autograph!!???
You know it!

Can you fly a drone for epic shots ?
We did fly the drone but you can’t do it from the beach. We had to hike all the way to the top and fly from there.
Do you recommend renting snorkeling gear there?
You are probably better off buying your own but if you don't want to commit, the rental booth is great and has everything you need!
Can you rent life jackets there? I could only find info on snorkel rental.
Yes you can but I’m not sure how much they are. Probably around $10. Or you can rent a full gear package and save some money. But they do have plenty of vests.

I believe they are allowed but you should be respectful and not fly too low over the beach. Other than that, it should be fine.

The reef is not healthy 😢
