I love these kids! They’re talented, committed, and they did this old musical with total sincerity. I did Albert in my high school 55 years ago (!) and this made me cry for happiness that these wonderful kids performed it so well. We had a Kim with a glorious voice, too. Both she and I went on to long (I’m still going at 72) and happy careers as classical/musical theater singers and I hope many of these performers will do so too. Thank you!
@Sarah Recichard : Back in around the 1950s to 1960s, people would" get pinned" , which ussualy meant that a boy friend would give a girl a pin do show kind of an act of love and to show he wants to be boyfriend and girlfriend. It was the start of them " Going steady " which bassicaly means they are dating.
This has always been my favorite number in the show. Saw a Broadway revival not too long ago and this is better! This is closer to the film version, but definitely projects the zeitgeist. The kids are GREAT! Thanks for posting.
@The D I played him when I was 15 back in 1981. I thought I was good but the kid who plays him here is better! I had fun except that some of the other kids with that theater group called me Harvey for almost two years afterward and I didn't like that. Looking back now I see it was a compliment.
Harvey was actually bolder than me. I just sat next to the phone and stared at it without ever picking it up. At 3:54 I like how they start doing the charlston. They also did this in South Pacific when singing "I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair" at least when they performed it on Letterman. Same era. Anyway, I'd be all smiles if I was in the audience. For one, holding a telephone receiver to your ear is so nostalgic, and then to reminisce that this was such a big part of the dating ritual back then.

It sounds like a vocal coaches direction to "not yell." My guess. This was brilliantly performed, directed and choreographed. This is from a theatre professional.

Very impressed by video work! Saw this when we posted our video of Bye Bye Birdie: th-cam.com/video/8fweY_ubNYw/w-d-xo.html. Any tips for how we can get your "look" much appreciated. We use Canon HFG30, Tungsten WB, auto exposure & focus.
Did you not watch the whole thing? It's just the end of English Teacher as lead-in to Telephone Hour in order to give context to the Telephone Hour number.

Harvey Johnson's part is like my favorite part. I can't wait to play him in the musical at my high school. Everyone knew I was perfect for the part.
i’m playing Margie in BBB! I’m super excited

Omg the cut out of the actual kid playing Conrad. ❤️ It’s so good.
I liked that it was a bit slower so I could really hear all of it
Me too! Really good!!
The girl who plays Kim is so pretty, her hair and the outfit are so cute!
I played in that musical many many years ago with an amateur theatre group n Glasgow Scotland.

that was the most unenthusiastic "oh yeah" in the history of oh yeahs
Well, they're all racing to get into that final pose - probably took a little of the steam out of it.
Bill Moore I'm our show we rush from one side of the other and still do it all out. It's a simple breathing technique

Jilian Jacob-Linares - you literally made me snortle out loud! 🤣😂😅
I love the choreography!
Finally one where they didn’t do Penelope dirty.
Why is all of the audience old people
Those shots were probably shot during a matinee - that's when all the grandparents would show up.
Prob a Sunday show
candy lover12 Because the play is over 60 years old so it’s one the elders all know from when they were kids!
Was this a live orchestra? Or is this recorded accompaniment? We are having a difficult time finding it. Thank you!
This was a live orchestra.
It was live, Greene NY performed it in March 29-31, 2019 and had a live orchestra. A slightly worse performance but still very good for a small stage.
I didn’t know Mat Pat was an actor....
Lili he’s talked about being a theater kid before
Is he in this?
Matthias Tan no
I love how Lili thinks that was a joke but he's genuinely an actor
Terrific!
Great job!
So smart!
I remember doing this in 7th grade
Just got cast as Harvey Johnson, can’t wait till rehearsals start!
wait are you landon😂
Lily P. Yes, who’s asking? 🤨
@@landblaster1384 Im lily from encore, i got cast as penelope anne :)
Lily P. Oh yes, I do remember that from the cast list
i wish it was faster
Me too. But I think it was a teen orchestra? Can be hard to get all those musicians up to speed.
my twin sister and i both got nancy and helen!!
That's so cute! Here's to the casting director! 😂
the song should really be titled Going Steady"... :)
my thoughts exactly
2:01 i thought he was holding a fluffy dog at first
Blessed be God forever! 💖✝️
wowwwwwwww
Hi Kremit
Hi Justin
what's the story, youtube glory?
FBI? PewDiePie?
Bro Hugo looks just like the acter I’m the og movie
I swear the female chorus is doing a modified version of "The Freddy"...
properly starts at 1:50
Yes, I know - just a little lead-in to give context.
Hiya Hugo
Are ya stupid?
Always one of my favorite parts
Isn't the girl on the phone supposed to be called Ursula?
Rich set a fire and he burned the house down...wait wrong phone hour song (iykyk) but this is so good
i am cast as penelope anne!!
Me too!!
The Telephone Hour starts at 1:41.
I don’t like how the girls were trying to sound pretty. They’re supposed to sound annoying and loud
Harvey at 3:35 lol
I
THESE ARE THE SAME KIDS AS WSS,,,WHERE IS ANITA?
She’s in there.
thanks,,,i'll keep looking...i bet that group of kids was the best ever at the school@@THATBILLMOORE

Rosie had to wear flats.
why the girls sing like they out of breathe
they probably are. Its a very dance heavy number and its hard to get a breath in
Too slow
This is not the telephone hour. This is an English teacher.
Did you not watch the whole thing? It's just the end of English Teacher as lead-in to Telephone Hour in order to give context to the Telephone Hour number.
Ear mics should NOT be visible during a performance. When I did Nunsense at Regional theater ours were clear coated.
whitest high school since the actual 1950's
@emsguybob Definitely the most talented!
I don't get it
?
It basically was Kim and Hugo becoming official and getting a dude's pin was how you became official back then
My school does it better lol
