Part 1 of your Overnight came up in my feed and I just wanted to say I'm really impressed. I've been working my way back through your build videos now and I have to say, you really deliver a lot of great applicable knowledge. Love how you go and do the things with the kit you built. Actions speak so much louder than words. I'm going to start working on my can right away, and I'm going to def share your channel with my friends. Thanks so much. Please keep up the great work. Wish you well!!!
Why don't people watch the series of videos regarding the Altoids Tin challenge, before making inane comments, such as "Why would you do this to a perfectly good knife?" Keep up the great work, and thanks for making the videos.
I mentioned in your overnight challenge video that a couple of holes thru the tang might help securing it to whatever handle you make. You could also add some chicago screws or a small panhead bolt/wingnut combo that would fit in that space made by the holes and it should still fit in the Altoid tin. Just a thought. Thanks for the video and great job with your channel. 👍
I designed a knife after the challenge that's been released by Campcraft Outdoors and Adventure Survival Gear. It has holes to insert cut down pins to lock an improvised handle in the field. A new video on the subject will be out this week.
Nice. A great idea for a small survival tin. I personally prefer a larger kit for survival, but this is a great blade for any small kit. The Pathfinder Shop has tins that are just a bit bigger than the Altoids tin. You could save a little more handle using one of them.
I’m glad you are pleased with the results of your project. I hope the modified knife fits your needs. The standard Eldris handle is about the minimum length I feel is useful for any real cutting tasks. I’m not positive, but I believe the “slots” in the tang are there to give molded handle material and/or epoxy a better grip on the stick tang. In any event, thank you for the look into the handle of this Mora knife.
interesting, i suspected the thang ends somewhere in the middle. I am impressed by mora again and again :-) Love my eldris and all the others i have from them.
I break off knives and small jig saws and fit them in my Altoona kit. I use locking pliers as the handle for the blade and saw and walls small and modular.
This was for an online best altoid tin contest. I would have preferred a bigger container. The handle is heat treated and will not bend easily. Check out the altiod kit video and 3 part altoid tin overnighter videos also.
I cut down the tang so I don't know the original weight. The entire altoid survival kit weighted under 4 ounces. Check out the entire play list. th-cam.com/play/PL8mglC-fQMqv6MSp8ArtfhWUt2CYr60b4.html
This is a great idea. I probably would have taken it a step further, though. If you were willing to sacrifice the extra 1/8" of blade, you could fit a nice curve into that space that would prevent your hand from sliding forward, and would give better grip.
I make similar survival knives out of Sawzall blades but use decent quality blades grind to a shape you want and grind in an edge just keep cool with water every couple seconds
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but did you consider adding a couple holes that were just a bit smaller than a nail that would fit in the tin to hold the handle more securely in place? I saw the overnighter first and I know you struggled with slippage
I'm sorry, but your work broke my heart! 😭😭😭 Alternative title: "How to make worse a perfect knife" 😂😂😂 IMHO you wasted time and money. You could sacrifice to your tin can a cheap Chinese blade, instead. 🤓
I thought it was a good idea I'm not certain if i would it but i did enjoy the vid. However, i personally do not have a knife in my Altoids tin but i do have a razor as i carry a knife 99.9 % off the time. I'm working on my esee tin which is a bigger version. I have considered the classic Opinel #9 which is a great knife to keep in a kit sonething to consider. The #9 has a blade length thats as long as the cut down a Mora while closed so you will always have a handle. I own a few Moras also its a heck of an knife. Thx for sharing.
Lol i saved all the materials might take some time to reassemble.. i love mora i just ordered something new might take my mora spot i got a fallkniven kklz or kolt knive

It's not weird at all, on the contrary it's a very well known and adopted structural engineering solution to make all the structure stronger with very little weight more.
Why on earth would you do this? I appreciate now knowing the full length of the tang so thanks for that. But why? What is the hang up on an altoids tin? Just asking and also, just saying. No judging here.
This was part of an online challenge. The altoid tin was a part of it. I needed the best knife I could get. Watch the entire playlist. th-cam.com/play/PL8mglC-fQMqv6MSp8ArtfhWUt2CYr60b4.html
@@BurningRiverBushcraft I did like what you did with the saw blade. I keep a saw blade in my pack with two cotter pins and 4 key rings. Greetings from Alabama! This was a great project that dovetailed nicely into your Altoid survival tin series. Well done!

@BurningRiverBushcraft nice... I also I saw your other video of the one you made with some 1" stock flatbar carbon steel. Nicely done.
Thank you for your time and effort. You’ve allowed me to see exactly what’s inside my Eldris!

can u show how you'd rehandle this?
I am backed up right now but I will put it on my list.
I just watched this again, Jamie. Love it!
I will be making some altoid tin sized knives soon.
If you put some fishing line or string in the kit you could split a stick and secure it around the tang to give it a larger handle out in the field

U.S. Legion Custom Knifeworks....search it on eBay. They build and sell a full tang heavy duty blade that was designed to fit the tin.
You'd think a man would search for that type of blade first..🤦

Yes a new knife has been made to deal with this issue. The build video will be out shortly, as well as a personal survial tin class on Outdoorcore.com
Interesting approach :)
Would you be willing to make another one using a mora companion? keep the tip portion and grind down the rest into a handle
Send me a knife, i will do the mod, shoot a video, and send it back to you.
I think I'd rather have a longer handlecthan more blade, it might be more secure to hold. The blade length seems fine on the stock eldris after all.
I agree. I didn't want to reprofile the blade. I haft an improvised handle in the field when I use it.
Liked the concept a lot. Once in the bushes, it should take only a few min to make wooden handle!
Thanks, check out the ultimate altoid tin video on my channel. I put a quickie handle on it to get the full effect.
