    Whereas I generally agree with you, there are in fact many many places you can overnight. You drove past at least a dozen between Beadnel and Amble.
    Sadly the council have continuously promoted self catering houses which has devastated many villages so there aren’t that many locals left. Craster had 380 when I was a kid, pop now about 130. Ex council house recently sold for offers over £675,000.
    Generally people don’t appreciate that campers perhaps spend much more money locally than those in cottages receiving their supermarket delivery from miles away and eating in most days.

    I'll be on the continent most of the time when I get my new van. Parking up in France and Spain is easy and quite often equipped for travellers unlike the UK. The UK seems hellbent on preventing people living alternative lives. The government like you to be in one place so they can make sure you're paying your taxes etc.

    Beadnell has become the monstrosity of Northumberland. Used to holiday there as a kid in the 80s and 90s with very fond memories. Today it’s a tourist hell hole, with miles of new build estates. Went up with my kids recently and was pretty upset by what they’ve done to the place

    As a resident of rural Northumberland clòse to the Scottish Border I would like to offer an alternative view to your comments. One of the reasons many residents of Northumberland do not want an increase in tourism is because of the disruption some tourists bring to the area. Litter, dog waste, self entitlement, ignorant attitude, inconsiderate parking, illegal parking, not following the country code all contribute to an attitude of resentment. Many visitors seem to adopt the attitude that facilties and amenities should be geared exclusively to their requirements. Please remember Northumberland is not Disneyland, it is home to many who do not appreciate having their lives disrupted just because someone's on "holiday".

    • @captaindave47
      @captaindave47 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      When you go away on holiday do you consider the residents of the place you are staying in, or do you expect to enjoy your holiday without unwelcoming locals spoiling your holiday. Your attitude is why many people will avoid coming and spending their hard earned money in your town. And you will soon regret the deterioration in services like closing down of banks and post offices. I for one will not be spending my money there and will instead go to Scotland where the people are friendly and welcoming.

    • @MrLachlan09
      @MrLachlan09 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@captaindave47 In response, the only people who benefit from tourism are the retail and hospitality sectors. As for the other services you mention they survive year in year out and are not dependent on tourism. And as for your comments about Scotland being friendly and welcoming I would direct to the many media articles regarding hostility towards the influx of campervans on the NC500. And as a Scot myself I would say that most people are freindly and welcoming when you are spending money. And my attitude as you wish to call it is based upon numerous encounters with self entitled tourists who do not seem to grasp the concept that the places they visit are communities in their own right, and not attractions created solely for the edification of tourists.

    • @captaindave47
      @captaindave47 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrLachlan09 the tourism and hospitality sectors are big employers of the local residents and without tourists a lot more people would be unemployed.

      @@MrLachlan09 on Arran where I have spent much of my time this year and all my income they are closing another bank due to lack of business and there is only going to be one bank left on the entire island, for the locals to be able to do banking they will have to take a ferry to the mainland. Tourism is helping to keep Arran alive.

    • @MrLachlan09
      @MrLachlan09 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@captaindave47 Once again I would challenge your assertions regarding tourism being a big employer in rural areas. Certainly in this part of the world people are employed in the nearby town or in agriculture. As for banking, well I think most people now use the Internet. The idea that rural communities "rely" on tourism is one perpetuated by people who clearly do not live in the communities involved.

    I'm sorry you had so many problems with the parking. I agree with your thoughts about how difficult it is too park around Northumberland. It's seems to be the same all over the country. I think it's a missed opportunity and a little short-sighted by the councils not to promote camping in these beautiful locations. I feel it could be managed much better by them. However, I can just imagine the locals objecting, too. Please come back to Northumberland. Don't let this put you off. ❤

    That attitude from the warden is poor, I was working in Liverpool a few months ago and couldn't pay for parking out side the museum where I had a meeting. Neither the parking machine or on the app would work. I saw a warden and explained the issue, he wrote a note on the back of a fixed penalty notice with his details on it advising other wardens not to ticket me and put it inside my windscreen. Cheers K.

    Parking enforcement officers/ wardens cannot mitigate and rightly so.
    I am suprised that the warden did not say accept the pcn and then you can submit your case plus screenshots of the app. The pcn would be cancelled and likely you wouldn't be charged £12 either because the booking portal failed. This is standard practice because the council would lose a court action.

    suggest this is not uncommon. My solution is you stealth camp far more often, you have a small ish van and if you plan properly by doing a bit of homework

    We are heading to Northumberland next month. It isn't an area that we have explored before. Hoping to spend 12 days touring around and showcasing the county. We don't pay for sites. The money we save is spent shared around local businesses, not just cafes, but bakeries, butchers, farm shops and other local shops.
    The argument that only tourist businesses benefit, as one of the comments on this thread states is short sighted.
    We will still head up there but sadly, also think that we will be leaving quickly if we encounter issues. Cumbria, the Yorkshire Dales etc are on the doorstep and we have never encountered any issues in either area.
    It definitely seems that the council, and obviously some locals are behind the curve. We hope to prove you wrong,but sadly, doubt that we will.
