My favorite part from the IGN review of RE2 remake was he was complaining at the title screen not saying “Resident Evil 2” in a scary voice and that was a missed opportunity by the developers. If he would had just turned on the “Original” soundtrack in the options he would have heard it say “Resident Evil 2” in a scary voice just like the original game.
And it was a bug that less than 10% of pre-launch review copies even had, and the bug would probably had disappeared if the reviewer just played the game on another system. It was basically review bombed due to a personal rage-quit.
Ralph is the most interesting man in gaming. He has put out some of the most well thought out, beautifully worded game reviews we've seen since Adam Sessler. But on the other hand... He runs this channel....
A while back IGN reviewed Cortex Command and said it was mediocre. The head dev said "Your mom is mediocre" in response during an official developer update video. I wish more AAA studios had balls nowadays or at least a sense of humor.
The last straw for me with IGN was when they made a video covering Dark Souls III's first DLC The Painted World of Ariandel and claimed that there was only ONE boss and that when you cut the rope bridge down, it led to nothing (actually led to another boss, spell, bonfire, an item that allowed PvP arenas, etc.).
Well to be fair Dark Souls doesn't explain *anything* to the player, and it is especially catered to seasoned gamers. If a reviewer is new to the series, rarely (if at all) plays games, or is simply stressed from a large workload, the game is probably utter hell for him.
Yeah that review was trash but the Painted DLC isn't perfect either. The fact that it's known as the Friede DLC speaks miles imo (Yes I see your point btw).
At some point, you have to wonder if the IGN writers are even being truthful about their personal experiences, much less their game experiences. One of the IGN staff claimed he's a huge Fire Emblem fan, but fails to give the correct names of almost every Fire Emblem game he tried to vomit, including the name of the upcoming Fire Emblem game. And this was in a studio setting where it's completely normal to have notes in front of you to get a refresher on the facts and have a pre-recording chat about what they're going to talk about once they're in front of the camera. Their level of organization is astoundingly bad.
Submarine Wahoo I don’t like IGN at all, but I’m sure there’s at least a few people there who play games and don’t constantly try to push a narrative ... like 3 people maybe... lol.
Especially because it was abundantly clear that the reviewer just rushed through it to meet his deadline. He said so many things in that review that showed that he never took the time to fully understand the systems and mechanics.
@@TheChristian13000 4X games aren't difficult and many 4X games are pretty fucking casual. Look at Civilization series and man, even Stellaris was really basic before the 2.2 patch came out and added some complexity to the management aspects.
I think my biggest problem with IGN, is that the words they use to describe their feelings of the game almost never actually reflect the score they give. They can have a review with 100% pure praise, then only give a 6. Or they can have many things they dont like, then the score comes out as an 8 or 9. I just think that their words should match their scores more. Of all the things, your listeners should almost be able to tell the score you're going to give by listening to what you say about a game.
I feel this way too. If a review has nothing but praise and the game gets a 7 that makes no sense. But IGN reviews have always been garbage. All the complaints people are lodging at them now for their review practices are the same complaints we lodged against them in the way-back time, back before meme was a thing, before TH-cam and google were around, when people used AltaVista, and chatted on IRC and ICQ and used newsgroups. IGN became flashier, not better.
@@Wizard_Level_1 IGN was indeed always garbage, but it was once a long time ago more of a freshly dumped trash not yet rotting with vomit inducing stench that it is now. The only gaming website I remain loyal to nowadays is Rock Paper Shotgun, which doesn't even gives score to reviews, as scores are meaningless anyway.
This again highlights the ever clear issue. Game journalists aren't gamers whom are journalists, they're journalists that happened to land in games media. It's made clear by their aggressive political activism i.e. eurogamer, and by their complete inability to perform competently in games i.e. the infamous cuphead tutorial, demos and review parties having lower difficulty now, and everything being "the darksouls of X". Oh yeah and the continuous, blatant lying
That is the thing that aggravates me. Eurogamer recently had the gall to come out and say that they were activists and not gamers.... Thanks Eurogamer, like we didn't already know that.
Funny, I've been boycotting eurogamer for a long time now, and IGN a bit less. In a way it sucks because I'm sure amidst all their bullshit, there are good reviews out there from them, but alas...
@@MrTbob418 I've read a handful of them. But, I know for a fact that they favor the hack writers over the good ones. They don't want honesty and good writing, they want writers who have no problem leaving their integrity at the door and being a good soldier for whatever cause they happen to be pandering to. I know others who have written fantastic reviews for IGN who ended up having their work passed over for others, and when you compare them, the writer they chose to go with can't hold a candle to the one they left behind. They want yes men who have no principals, and whose writing has no substance or class. (I got the snub from IGN myself years ago. Back when I thought they were actually a reputable outlet.) Since then they have only gotten worse, to the point of hiring plagerists, and political nut-jobs. Something tells me it will only get worse still as time goes on with these websites.
ok so after playing re2 to its completion, including all 2nd parts for both characters... the game IS basically unchanged. There are differences, but by in large the game is still the same game. Meaning if you play as Leon or Claire you will mostly get the same experience. You have different weapons, most cutscenes have differrent dialog, Theres actually only one boss that is exclusive to claires campaign, and its a boss at the very end that doesnt impact the story really at all (if it was not there would it even matter?). There are a couple of rooms that only leon can access and vice versa. A bunch of small things certainly warrant an additional playthrough, but to call it a second part of the game is a HUGE stretch. The puzzles really are not different. The order and how -are somewhat, but its still "get three medals>>get 2 circuits>>get keycard>>fill /freeze vial>> etc. The maps are identical, excluding 1 small character exclusive map for claire (the orphanage) and a couple of irrelevant areas that you pass through as leon to get to the sewers... I loved the game and dont use ign at all, but I feel like people are blowing this way out of proportion. I dont think the original review was actually wrong. Its the same puzzles, same enemies, mostly the same maps.
I remember my dad went to the rental store and brought home Erin Brocovich - we watched it and thought it was pretty good. Two days later we sent him back to Blockbuster to return it and select something else, and he came home with it again. He put it in the DVD player and was 1/3rd through it before I heard him saying, “this movie is familiar, I’ve seen this before.” Don’t underestimate what people are capable of.
#therealdaytime also selling overprice-knock off Nintendo Classics consoles both the NES + SNES. A few people I had a conversation with said TheReal store are full of crap.
to be fair i've gotten S rank in all 4 play throughs on hardcore & the 2nd runs actually are near identical to the 1st run (from the same character's point of view). The only difference's are the slightly different start location, a .45 pistol added & the extra boss at the very end, that's it, the vast majority of the game is exactly the same on the 2nd run as apposed to the 1st run of that same character. The zapping mechanic isn't present either like the OG RE2 had (look it up, I cant be bothered to explain what it is to people who aren't RE fans), the puzzles are all the same with slight solution differences so you cant just remember them from run 1 but the way to that solution is always the same, like going to the plant room hatch to see the code or finding the same memo for a lock code. In RE2 everything was different, all key item locations were swapped around, you were doing things and going places in a different order, the stories were very different, for example in OG RE2 Claire A had sherry infected with G but in B she isn't there are equally large divergences in Leon A & B too but in the remake both A & B for both characters play out note for note the same. They did miss out on making a landmark game like the remake of RE1 was, they could have made real B campaigns that were very different, had crimson heads (they are canon thx to RE1, and Outbreak made lickers the next evolution of crimson heads so they should have been in the game), they could have mixed things up in the B runs by showing the aftermath of Nemesis movements as a for shadowing to the RE3 remake.
You missed out on an opportinity to roast IGN for another terrible review they did: Alien: Isolation..The dude complained how the game is too hard, you had to hide from the Alien, AI that is too good etc. Just....terrible. They gave it a freaking 5.9.....
If I recall correctly one of the reviewer's criticisms was that the game was too long with a lot of padding. I think that's a valid criticism for a game with a lot of hide and seek. Still a 5.9 seems way to low for that game regardless. The worst ever IGN review was when they gave Godhand a 3/10 imo.
I absolutely love Alien Isolation, but it was criticized for having a drawn out last third, with two many fake endings. And I think that criticism is valid. But Alien Isolation still looks and feels amazing 5 years later. And it runs on Linux
@@PepsiMagt Ofc, the game has it's flaws, I do understand if the don't like the drawned out last third (even though I enjoyed it). Fake endings is a mixed bag, I see it more as an homage to the Alien franshise where those fake endings were a thing. If that was the only complaint, I would understand. But complaining about difficulty (even though there are other difficulty settings) complaining how Alien always knows where you are and teleports (which is also false), how you have to hide etc....it is abysmall IMO. Even with the above valid criticism that you mentioned, 5.9 score for a game such as Alien Isolation is just terrible.
IGN reviews are the dumbest thing on the internet sometimes. "Game had good graphics, but the gameplay was derivative and boring. The sound track put me to sleep and the controls were too difficult. 9.5/10" Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight
Yes, that is the thing, some how they take their audience as idiots or something. These guys need to wake up, those number doesn't match what they are talking about...
IGN's review scale is so arbitrary, and none sensical. Why not just have a "good, bad, or great" scale. Having a 100 point scale is just random numbers.
That is why you never go to mainstream gaming websites for reviews. Channels like yours are the future of games journalism and they don’t like. Hence the hit job on Yong by Kotaku.
J Peasmold Gruntfuttock they send out hits on everyone in the alt media. Everyone besides them or NPC Gamer, etc is obviously a far right fascist bigot. lol.
its unfortunate that IGN has used the same review process (which was never very great) for years. They've definitely grown, but they haven't adapted over the years.
The first game released 20 years ago. Logically it makes sense that even a 30 year old writer didn't play the original. They would have been 10 and you know RE2 was a mature title. It's not a stretch at all. They gave the game a 9 out of 10. Before the very slight mix up it was an 8.8 out of 10. This whole thing is a none issue. And I bet half the people here in the comments are just making jokes without any semblance of an idea what this topic is even about.
GundamGoku I’m 31 and everyone played it when I was a kid, even if your parents were strict you have a friend who has the game. Btw the issue is that they’re paid to do a job and some people rely on their reviews to decide whether to buy the game or not, dunno why you would trust IGN but they abuse the trust. I'm pretty sure it was neither from IGN nor a review. A VentureBeat writer posted a video of he playing a preview version of the game for half an hour... Badly. His article started with "I suck at Cuphead. Let's get that out of the way." It also says "Go ahead, laugh your heart out at my expense." and "While my performance on the captured video below is quite shameful, as I never finished the level, I think it shows quite well why Cuphead is fun and why making hard games that depend on skill is like a lost art." venturebeat.com/2017/08/24/cuphead-hands-on-my-26-minutes-of-shame-with-an-old-time-cartoon-game/ So, as far I can tell... Some dude was bad at Cuphead, posted an article praising the game while making fun of himself, and then things blew out of proportion. If you were talking about something else, please correct me.
Games often come down to taste, and with youtube reviewers, you can watch a few of their videos and understand their tastes. These big websites, the reviewers are honestly faceless to me. I don't know who any of them are. Sure, I may have read an article or two they've written before, but I just don't know enough about them. How do I know if the person who reviewed Gris liked that style of game or not? Some themes just resonate more with some people. God of War scenes with Krato's son may connect the fathers in their 30's playing the game more than the college students. Its just how it is.
I can't believe I watch this video for the second time not realizing I watched it before 7 months ago and thinking it's a new video until the end, unbelievable lmao, thanks youtube recommendations.
IGN Journalist: As a huge fan of the franchise, I was disappointed that this remake failed to capture the dramatic and riveting dialog of the original as well removing the agile player movement we all remember.
Dunkey basically had it right with his reviewers video. IGN has been inconsistent alot. Game is a absolute master piece 6/10. Game had bad controls and a sub par storyline 8.8/10 and sometimes it feels like they don't understand what they are playing remember the ruby and sapphire remakes about a largely water based region well ign gave it a 7.8/10 stating it had to much water... Ill stick to my TH-cam reviewers
IGN gave disgaea 5 an 8.7/10 because it was too familiar towards previous titles They gave it an 8.7 for having the same mechanics that were already perfect and great
Of course IGN is a joke, did you see the Path Of Exile review. The dude played 85 hours and 75 hours of it was spend on the 10 acts storie mode (who's just a tutorial to be honest) Long story short IGN think they tried the game when they just did the tutorial... It's an achievement they don't make an oopsie a week !
In general MMORPG or games with MMO and RPG elements reviews are pointless, no one that's considering to play that kind of game is looking to put just 60 hours on it, it takes at least a month to feel like you've actually got something out of a game like that, and even then that's most likely just the tip of the iceberg, so no, don't try to sell me your ''review'' of WOW, FFXIV, GW2 or whatever, after rushing a character to max level (probably with a lot of help to make it faster) and then doing a couple dungeons, and I know the same goes for PoE despite being more of a dungeon crawler, the point is, if most game reviews are already dubious in nature then MMORPG reviews are the most spurious
What about that other oopsie a few years ago when they called Roxas a "garbage character that no one cares about?" and now Nomura, KH3's director ensures that Roxas is a _very_ important character.
@@thetuned6972 Pretty sure your memory is rose-tinted. Metal Gear Solid made no sense at all. The whole storyline was bollocks. Sons of Liberty made even less sense, and Snake Eater didn't even make sense from one scene to the next. AND MADE COMMENTS ABOUT THAT IN THE GAME. Meanwhile, Portable Ops 1/2, and Acid 1/2 were still silly storylines but did at least remain internally consistent. In fact, the only way your comment makes sense is if you are trying to be tricksie by referring to Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, and Metal Gear: Snake's Revenge. All 3 of which were on the NES, and none of which were made by Kojima.

Honestly tho, i agree that reviewers should at the very least play it on normal. I mean, if we are supposed to value their opinions so much, shouldn’t they be able to game so hard that they can get through at least normal fast enough for a review? I for one don’t trust anyone who only plays on easy. Except my mom, of course, she’s only ever played two games on hard in her lifetime and even those impressed me tbh, shoutout to her
i play games on easy because i play for the fun of it, i have enough challenge in real life and dont need to worry about a game. but i still get through games pretty quick, i just dont want to worry about steps back from dieing
Don't worry too much, their scores mean nothing. Very rarely do they assign the right people to play certain games. Usually hardcore games seem to be given casual reviewers. Insurgency: Sandstorm was the only IGN review for a hardcore game I saw where the reviewer seemed like they would actually like a hard game.

Too bad my respect for IGN hit the lowest point possible when they gave Prey a 4/10 for a bug that was fixed before release.
They gave Prey a 4/10? I'll accept nothing less than an 8/10 for that game.
And it was a bug that less than 10% of pre-launch review copies even had, and the bug would probably had disappeared if the reviewer just played the game on another system. It was basically review bombed due to a personal rage-quit.
Reviewers can only review what they've been given. If the bug was in the game they were given, they have to talk about it.

@@TeriiTeri Thatsssss not the point.

Holy shit I just commented that exclusively games is going to destroy IGN then I see your comment. Can't wait!
Visual masterpiece with the mechanics to back it up. 7/10
Oh yeah and the continuous, blatant lying

@@MrTbob418 I've read a handful of them. But, I know for a fact that they favor the hack writers over the good ones. ok so after playing re2 to its completion, including all 2nd parts for both characters... the game IS basically unchanged.
I remember my dad went to the rental store and brought home Erin Brocovich - we watched it and thought it was pretty good. to be fair i've gotten S rank in all 4 play throughs on hardcore & the 2nd runs actually are near identical to the 1st run (from the same character's point of view).

That pissed me off all other outfits gave alien isolation good scores
Obviously if IGN isn't bribed they try to review bomb the meta critic score. Which apparently is a huge deal in the gaming business world
If I recall correctly one of the reviewer's criticisms was that the game was too long with a lot of padding.

Long story short IGN think they tried the game when they just did the tutorial... It's an achievement they don't make an oopsie a week !
In general MMORPG or games with MMO and RPG elements reviews are pointless, no one that's considering to play that kind of game is looking to put just 60 hours on it, it takes at least a month to feel like you've actually got something out of a game like that, and even then that's most likely just the tip of the iceberg, so no, don't try to sell me your ''review'' of WOW, FFXIV, GW2 or whatever, after rushing a character to max level (probably with a lot of help to make it faster) and then doing a couple dungeons, and I know the same goes for PoE despite being more of a dungeon crawler, the point is, if most game reviews are already dubious in nature then MMORPG reviews are the most spurious

i miss lamon gamon
