My brother said, that the end where the clown comes out of the water is like "When Ronald McDonald hears you've been going to burger king" I Laughed so hard at this whole trailer
According to Steven King the 'it' wakes up every 27 years. The first movie was released in 1990 and the remake will be released in 2017. 27 years later
+mylisa777 yo yeah, I legit only fairly recently got over my fear of dark bathrooms.I am twenty now, I had a fear of dark bathrooms until I was 15 or 16
The new clown is obviously evil, dark and creepy. The 90's clown looks more like a regular clown, he can even look like a nice guy simply dressed up, and the fact that you could believe someone was all nice and then turn into such a monster is way scarier than seeing something dangerous and knowing you don't get near it.
Walkiria Antelo That was the whole point. An evil creature taking something benign, and making it malicious. It's still shocking that so few people grasp that lol
Did people know that pennywise attacked the town every 27 years, the photos the kids saw in the new trailer were based on events from the movie 27 years ago.
Mallory Peterson you're not alone. I still can't go to children's birthday parties because of the book, the mini series, and now this. I'm freaking scared of clowns and even mascots lol. the sad thing is, I'll still watch it.
I think my problem with the new IT movie is that according to the book IT's Pennywise form wasn't supposed to be scary looking. Pennywise was supposed to be the form that it used to lure kids, sort of like the nice looking guy in the park looking for his lost dog that turns out to be a kidnapper. The new Pennywise wouldn't do that, he looks creepy when you first see him.
I find the old clown scarier because he looks more like a normal clown. The very first scene of the old trailer pretty much sums up why the clown was so scary. He appears friendly but it actually evil. The new clown isn't very deceiving and looks obviously evil
The whole reason the original trailer wasn't scary, is because back in the day, they didn't give away so much crap that you know what's going on. They left people wondering so they'd watch to find out what's happening! Now, we know darned near everything about a movie before it's ever released, so they have to hype up the scary/creepy, because otherwise, there's not much there, but of course, with this, it's a remake, so it doesn't matter, it's all about effects.
Tee Lee I saw the old movie again and it wasn't scary at all so what you talking about? back then it wasn't really scary. it was creepy but not really scary i would say.
Yes. Back in the day, a primary factor in scary was what was left to the imagination. Nowadays, people need their imaginations fed to them in the form of special effects and darkness. Ah well.
If I had to pick, the old Pennywise is scarier because he looks normal. And that's what is supposed to creep you out about all of King's work - the danger in the everyday. The film just isn't frightening though. It was run of the mill 30 years ago, and it's run of the mill now,
Yup. That's the point. He disguises himself as a clown to attract children, not to scare them. He only gets scary at the last moment. Most of the people in the video (and this comments section) clearly don't get that.
lol I once knew a guy through a friend that was terrified of clowns. After their drama club rehearsal ended they all went to Denny's and I tagged along. From our town to Dennys it's a half hour drive. While getting there I found out he was afraid of clowns so I said "we all float down here" in a gravely voice as a joke. Bad idea. He was driving and pulled over insisting I gtfo. It took ten minutes for my friend and others to calm him down.
I've seen the original 5 or 6 times and it's pretty damn good, Tim Curry was perfect as Pennywise, I'd put it in my Top 5 Stephen King Movies list. That said, it's dated and needed an update to terrify a new generation, I'll definitely be seeing the new version.
It wasn't a movie, it was a mini-series, like The Stand which is around 8 hrs long. King's stories are psychological horror that use a lot of symbolism, ironic twists and eccentric sense of humour, it's usually above what an 8 yr old can grasp, you'll likely have a better appreciation for it as an adult. I always prefer the books, a reader has more imaginary freedom than a viewer, you can make it scarier in your head. As far as Pennywise goes the update is an upgrade in looking nightmare inducing to 8 yr olds everywhere.
The thing that makes the first Pennywise creepier than the new is that he does have the first impression of being a normal clown kids would trust, causing them fall into whatever trap he has for them. Any kid would run from the second one upon first sight whether they feared clowns or not and would probably never trust him because his appearance is scary right off the bat. So the first Pennywise is definitely creepier, but the second is scarier upfront.
1:39 "That house looks inviting" "Oh f*ck that house, no!" 2:39 "DAAAAAAMN" 2:56 "I love my son so very much, but if he said *"you'll float too"* (...)" LOL!!
It doesn't really matter how scary the new one is, it will never trump the original for causing adults and children lifelong trauma simply due to the fact that the original hit audiences in a time where they weren't so desensitized to horror. sure, the new one will give people nightmares for a few days or maybe even weeks, but the original gave viewers who were unprepared for it nightmares for a lifetime.
I remember being obsessed with the original IT when I was real little. My aunt had it on VHS and she gave it to me because I was so obsessed. I remember watching it alone in my dark room as a kid. For some odd reason it didn't phase me
the funny thing about Pennywise is that he looks just like a regular clown, so the kids want to go with him and then he shows his real form and is a monster.. so.. the new one gives it away too soon...
The bath scene scared me so much! My parents watched this movie in front of me thinking "she is to young, she won't remember" well I did, and I was scared for years! I decided to finally watch it as an adult and I definitely found the real meaning of the movie, beyond the scary clown. So now I'm so exited to watch the new one! (Although, clowns still make me feel uncomfortable)
IT was the first real horror movie I ever saw. I was fine, until about half-way through the movie when I had to go to the bathroom, and my dad thought it would be clever to say "Better check the shower before you go." Scared me for several years. I couldn't go into a public restroom unless my older sister was with me.
Random Animations I was scared that someone might hold my feet to grab me and pull me to the other world. I took me 3 years to not be scared of it, I just stop thinking scary thoughts and start thinking happy ones.
Random Animations I did wake up in the middle of the night because I thought something was touching me. I was just imagining things, but my grandma is very religious she would pray 1-2 times a day. She said there was 5 spirits in my house. None of them were aiming to harm us. My grandma said that spirits are everywhere and most houses have more than 3 of them. Sometimes I would feel like someone's watching and I'm pretty sure it's the spirits. They're not harmful.
In the book. Pennywise comes out every 27 years to terrorize Derry The first movie came out in 1990 it's 2017 It's been 27 years!!! Those film makers are on a whole new level
scary thing about old Pennywise was how it looked harmless at first. Anyone knows to run away from the monster. Old Pennywise was quintessence of stranger danger and might be partially responsible for why we protect our children better now. New one will be just another horror movie. More jump scares and nothing else.
Noah Smith it comes with progress in cinematography. we know what to expect so what scare us is jump scares which at this point is a cheap trick. people are scared of the unknown but there is hardly any unknown left. also it's a remake based on a book. nothing new to be scared about.
Old clown was SO much more terrifying because it wasn't trying to be scary. IT looked like a regular run of the mill clown which made the trauma of clowns that much more set
New IT looks like the bad guy from "The Incredible's" Looking creepy isn't what made IT scary, it was the back and forward from looking inoccent to demonic. He lured you in then scared you.
It was the sense of that familiarity like you see how trusting the little girl, and Georgie were of Pennywise at first. Familiarity distorted can be a disturbing thing. The fact the old Pennywise looked so normal like another clown, even laughable was what scared people. It drew them in, confused, and then ate the crowd up. I agree with ya about "The Incredible's" thing lol.
Here's an Idea for a bit of a change- Kids react to a completely blank screen for 2 and a half minutes and then get asked completely random, unrelated questions. Could be brilliant.
Bet the new one will just be a bunch of stupid jump scares. The old one was scary even though you saw so much of Pennywise and he looked, sometimes, like a normal clown. He would pretend to be harmless yet the audience knew he was a monster and that made it terrifying.
yo this show scared me so much when i was younger when my sister first showed me , but now i laugh so much when i watch this movie because i find it so funny.

This just raised the level of my fear of clowns from 100 to infinity! Now I can't go to sleep and right now it's 6:00 pm on a Wednesday!
That lady was the best. "I guess I don't have a son anymore."
i think the girl who said "everyone loves when they remake old move" lives in a different universe than some or most of us do..
I wonder how many people know that Pennywise, that creepy as clown, is actually a spider....
Piper1x wut
it's actually not even a spider
I had a friend who was terrified of clowns, and her brother and cousin had the idea to "cure" her by holding her down on the couch and turning on IT.
"Hey Georgie!!! We all float down here!! 😜"
John Doe Tim Curry alone made the role scarier
Tim Curry was amazing at being monsters. Loved him in Legend as well.
The new IT was terrifying
yo this show scared me so much when i was younger when my sister first showed me , but now i laugh so much when i watch this movie because i find it so funny.
