Some employers are good, but a lot are not. If you are self employed, a customer also may want to work with someone younger. My point is that some people may not have complete control of their retirement date. I also realize how much shorter my life is and I can’t wait to retire and spend 100% of my time doing what I want to do. When I was younger, I thought working forever sounded good and productive. I feel completely different now. Save as much as you can while you are young to give yourself options.

They are looking for being hired as a OWNER and wonder why they can't keep a job. Hard work is way to hard hard to do because it stops them from playing video games. I would love to do that for a living because I'm really good. I'm trying to save up to get out of my mom's basement. She is on me all the time, like taking out the TRASH. She thinks because she works 70 hours a week, she shouldn't ask me to do EVERYTHING around this place, I'm not her slave. How old are you? Only 36 years young. What is in your savings ? 700 hundred in savings bonds that my grandmother gives me 100 big bucks EEE savings bond but that cash cow kicked the bucket this year. So no more gravy train. The positive thing is she left me all her modes of transportation. Lucky guy, turn your thumb towards himself. What kind of transportation? It's a classic for sure. It's a 1989 Ford Grenada with Ford's most powerful they ever made. What kind of gas mileage? 6 miles per gallon if I stay out of it. It's a little loud because it's tapping real loud somewhere ? Lost my drivers license because of no paying all of my child support . How many kids 6 that they proved, how much behind are you? Not bad, I've knocked it down the 100 savings bond to get ahead, but guess what? It's not really 100 bucks unroll 5 years so I STILL OWE 99,943.45 THAT'S IT. What did it start and how long have you owed this. Uhhhhh uhhhhh. It started at 100k and the lawyer fees for her and my lawyers, taxes penalty is a separate ACCOUNT. Oh God what is that balance ? Round numbers ? Please. It's a shade less than a million and way higher than 500 grand. I don't have an exsactly PERFECTLY clear number, but I paid it way down. Great job how much has you paid down ? I'm putting my last windfall check from Grammy. It's going to be hard not getting that scratch anymore. Dang it's hard to save money, WHAT MOM, I'M WORKING RIGHT NOW, I PUT IN 7 INTERNET JOB APPLICATIONS IN TODAY IN HONOLULU BECAUSE FOOD IS EVERYWHERE FREE FOOD GROWS EVERYWHERE AND IT'S TAX FREE IF YOU GET PAID UNDER THE TABLE. She sounds like an amazing mother and super resilient person. The fact that she’s absorbing all these financial (and presumably emotional) hits while raising 4 kids and preserving this kind of positive attitude is pretty fantastic.
    You can tell she was raised right by her own supportive parents. And while she may not be a financial wizard, she definitely has the right financial instincts.
    That being said, I found it awkward that a 20-something year old is giving a 45-year old mother of 4 some pretty basic financial “advice”. This was great from a neutral 3rd party learning and entertainment point of view - but she needs an experienced financial advisor that really know what they’re doing and having similar lifestyle values. Stuff like paying for children’s college, taking care of elderly parents, divorce and older adult relationships is out of Caleb’s wheelhouse. I say this all with due respect.
    I give her lots of kudos for putting her business out there and raising some sharp kids.

    • @Sophie3647s

      I don't think you need to be of a certain age or have children to understand her at an emotional level. Also better to take the emotions out of finance to be able to persevere the way she is. She looking for advice not a friend. The financial advisor could be 20 years older than her without children and still give pretty basic advice as Caleb already did. 529 plan common knowledge. Several kids well scholarships/community college first. She also already has some concept of finances which is why she may not have been as fun to watch for some -

    • @skylinec83
      @skylinec83 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Sophie3647s I really don’t agree that a 20-yr old could give her good financial advice simply because 20-yr olds don’t understand the priorities of her unique situation. She isn’t another 45-yr old person that’s struggling with credit card debt and doesn’t know how to save. Her priorities are which of my kids should I assist and how much by when? How does that align with my own retirement priorities and other obligations?
      Yes of course everyone knows what a 529 is but while “the book” tells you to save for your own retirement first and have your kids apply for FAFSA and take in student loans of their own, well if your kid has a shot of making an Ivy League school of her dreams, how shitty of a parent would you feel like if she couldn’t attend because you can’t afford it for your kid? No amount of articles about “state schools are 80% as good as Harvard” articles will take away that guilt.
      Or if she suddenly has to take care of her own elderly parents, then what? Tell her parents that have supported her while she was in need “sorry mom & dad, I’ve gotta take care of my own retirement first.”??? That’s preposterous.
      Or in the case of divorce, I’m sure you should pursue the max amount of alimony and child support you can from a financial standpoint, but do you go after so much that it cripples your children’s father financial situation that it makes him resentful of the kids or not allowing him enough time off to visit the kids?
      My point is there are a lot more nuisances in her situation other than just math. There are relationship dependencies and a great financial advisor should be able to give her lots options with pros/cons - not regurgitating basic formulaic “rule of thumbs” catered to 20 y/o’s with no savings or people in a financial hole that just need to climb out and start at zero.

Your scenarionof her maybe needing to support her parents only further proofs how right he is that she is simply not in a financial position to support her kids through I don't know what private school. She has been screwed over by 300k when you put it together PLUS several houses!
      The biggest favor she could do to her kids is to put her retirement plan first so that she won't rosk being a burden on her kids later on financially.
      And she's 35yo for christ sake not 50! It's just like how the older you get the higher the chance that your boss will end up being younger than you, but as long as they know their shit, they are in the leadership role.
      Yes she doesn't have lots of debts but given how many kids she has it basically puts her into a similar position financially as someone who has to have a strict budget to get out of debts.
      Best she can do is helping their kids outbof emergencies in a month that is difficult. Every parent wants to be able to offer the world to their kids hut what you want and what you can are not the same things. Her ex screwed up that option.

    • @skylinec83
      @skylinec83 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JustLIkerapunzel She's 45, not 35. Despite her financial woes with her ex husband, she is still in a good enough position to have options when it comes to how to spend her money. This isn't the Dave Ramsey crowd where it's a strict playbook/rules that they have to follow. When you have some money, then there are a variety of ways to deploy that capital to suit your needs. Yeah if you're broke then you have no business spending $5k on surgery for you dog but if you've got $50k saved and the dog means that much to you, then it's not a clear cut answer.
      If your kid really has a shot of getting into an Ivy League college, I would low-key judge that parent that had to pull their kid down to state school instead if it was a choice.

    I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for. My portfolio lost $18,500 last month alone, my earnings are tanking, and I can't see how my retirement will go smoothly when I can't even increase my stagnating reserve. A 2020 Northwestern Mutual study found that 71% of U.S. adults admit their financial planning needs improvement. However, only 29% of Americans work with a financial advisor. Additionally, emotionally-charged decisions to sell off large quantities of stocks or other investments now lock in your losses, removing any chance for future growth. Research suggests people who work with a financial advisor feel more at ease about their finances and could end up with about 15% more money to spend in retirement.

I plan to donate to her nonprofit because prison reform is very important to me. I know it's so critical to have different educational and mental health programs in prisons to truly rehabilitate these troubled people. 95% of inmates get out at some point, what kind of people do you want getting released? People who have had access to education and programs and have regular calls/visits from their loved ones? She is not in position for paying 5 people vacations or extra fun, or financing a partner (which of course I don't know if she is doing but she should definitely not do it) she needs to focus in her own financials, in my opinion. Prior banker here. One extra mortgage payment takes on average approximately 5 years off of a 30 year mortgage. I’ve had this discussion with a number of folks over the years who questioned the validity of paying bi-weekly on a mortgage that assesses its interest monthly.
    Edit to add: this is based on the additional payments being made from loan initiation. Also, if you have extra beyond the additional payment a year, absolutely, pay more. Just saying, some folks feel more comfortable if the payments are split and come out twice a month. If you can only make the one extra payment a year, it will still make a small but notable difference on the back-end of the mortgage.
