    Great video guys! Spooling that braid on tight is no joke, lol I put 600 yards of braid on my HXW and that took a couple of hours in low gear 😂 keep up the great work!

    • @GulfCoastNation
      @GulfCoastNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the 80w when the gen 3 we got about 850 under and 80-100 yards of 200 on top

    Do you guys recommend getting a line spooler set up to keep the right amount of pressure on the line, or does the cinder block method work just fine?

    • @GulfCoastNation
      @GulfCoastNation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cinder block method works better than a line spooler putting more pressure. In the past 3 months we have spooled 3 new 80w shark reels all with cinder blocks and got them way tighter than a shop would have

      @GulfCoastNation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      Yes we have before but from our experience, they don't hold enough pressure to get the braid packed as tight as we can get it doing it manually!!🇺🇸

  • @sirwilliam7988
    @sirwilliam7988 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a difference in the way you spool the Tiagra vs The 8000? What I mean is, how do you have the spools set up. Line coming off the top of the spool or the bottom?

  • @qwiswaz9774
    @qwiswaz9774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    just curious why not tie the line to that knob that sticks up on the center of the spool on that conventional?

    • @GulfCoastNation
      @GulfCoastNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what we have found tying directly to that is not reliable but we have found it handy to help center your starting knot!

    • @qwiswaz9774
      @qwiswaz9774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GulfCoastNation cool, thanks for the reply, enjoying the vids , a local guy here in tx spools up reels similar but does like 8-10 wraps to lock the braid down on conventionals, just wonder what those knobs are for... always made me wonder if im supposed to be cinching a uni/arbor knot to them as a starting point...

    • @GulfCoastNation
      @GulfCoastNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@qwiswaz9774 we do it like we did in the video because it holds the braid from slipping but will also pull easy if you ever hit the knot. If we are harnessed up and have a fish pull hard enough to get to the knot, we don't want it to hold!

    • @qwiswaz9774
      @qwiswaz9774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm new to all this and trying to learn more. With the top shot, does it really matter the brand and how much do you put on? I was looking at Onyx and for the length I would assume about 50yards? Any advice would help! Thanks!

    • @GulfCoastNation
      @GulfCoastNation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Topshot brand does matter mainly because the brand will have higher or lower quality, but get what you can afford. For the shark setups the work for our area, we shoot for 50-100 yards of toppy
