I wonder if the unintentional evil eye that gets the woman exiled from the community in the story represents any actual situations that Pearse came across. It could be our version of the paranoia that fuelled witch trials
@ByrneMJames unfortunately you should read the comments made by politicians protesting the plaque that's to honour the accused . I haven't read that but heard of Dearg Dul. This one was about the blood in the porridge. I'll have to look it up. You could be right.
