    I bought one 2 years ago in 2017 from a one owner all original with 40hrs for $1200! The machine looks almost new.the seat cover was torn so I replaced it with a green marine grade vinyl material that blends the green on the decals and looks way better than the factory black seat covers it gets complements all the time, especially shocks people when I tell them it's a 2001.I replaced the oil lines, deleted the autolube oil system even removed the oil tank completely did away with that big air intake system deleted the catalytic converter,I have mixed Amsoil 50:1 Synthetic 2 cycle oil and I now have 275 hrs and counting, we done a plug change and ran a compression test all cylinders are 108 lbs. The only complaint is how the front end sits in the water

      I have the same, my yamaha dealer actually deleted the oil pump and they recommend a mixture of 38:1 or 40:1

    this ski had only 59 hours and it needed a rebuild already? Why didn't you guys replace the other 2 pistons? The cost of 2 pistons and ring sets are minor compared to having the engine on your bench already. Just my thoughts.

    • @hotheadzmarine
      @hotheadzmarine  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You said it... only 59 hrs on it.. clogged carb barely scored 1 piston. We dont sell what a person doesn't need but in this skis case ...The Ski was purchased for MY personal use and instead was sold to a GREAT LONG TIME CUSTOMER. Still talk to him and service all his watercraft. Runs perfect, he is very happy.

      If it's the power valve motor and I think it is, the cylinders can not be bored or honed and need to be replaced at a cost of 500-600 dollars each w/pistons. That is a lot of money. Another idea that sucked by Yamaha.

    Had a guy tell me I should go more like 40:1 ,because lubrication is the big problem with the Yamaha 1200s

    • @hotheadzmarine
      @hotheadzmarine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello and thank you for your comment. I gotta say thats incorrect, The Yamaha jet skis had a problem with the oil lines coming off at the carburetor due to the tight harness that was made typically you just loosen the harness and redo the zip tie connectors and you'll be OK. I suppose you could go 40:1 but you would have to do some De carbon pretty regularly or you will start carbon Jackng the rings..

      the temp reading is for the water jackets on the cylinder head. it should be lasered at the side of the cylinder not the top. the temp. should be no more than 165- 180 max

    Too bad didn't see this sooner.. that's a really nice ski. I got a 03 gp800r and after rebuilding the carbs it hesitates at full throttle kinda wants to give a little more punch but just stays below max rpm. They tell me it may be neddle adjustment, do you agree?.

    • @hotheadzmarine
      @hotheadzmarine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe high speed jet adjustment? Open high speed screws a half turn..might have to pull the carbs to do so if there blocked from adjusting. I dont recall off hand. I can check and get back if you'd like?

    • @godark8332

      These carbs that came to the U.S. were EPA regulated and tuned to meet emissions. YAMAHA curbed their set points to dam near a lean condition. To prevent that they designed the accelerator. By adding the DPLATE causes a huge lean condition. To avoid this you have to rejet the carbs , dial them in and add flame arresters. I know you didn’t change those jets because I can see the spark plug on the left is leaning out . Adding new carb kits is a band aid fix and eventually a piston will blow .
