im still not over the fact that sora straight up just died in the middle of the plot like my girl is not only a orphan, but she gets bullied and picked on by not only students but also adults??!! and then her crush straight up dies and then the grannie had issues which lead her to leave an important competition like GIVE HER A BREAK OH MY GOD 😭
I remember liking the other love interest more than sora when I read it, but then he died and I was heartbroken. I was actually upset she ended up with the guy I wanted her to be with xD this story honestly broke me
@@avengefullgirl95 I was sick of tsunderes ALWAYS being the main romance option so when teen me read Kitchen Princess I was like "OMG FINALLY THE NICE ONE IS THE LE AD!" and then they killed him like that and it hurt so friggin' much. I got so mad I stopped reading right after that.
@@gracekim1998You absolutely should! It's basically this, but the love triangle is actually a reverse harem and it's set in an elite patisserie high school. Also there are little fairy sidekicks. I like the manga better than the anime, though. They start with the same vibe, but the anime kind of just stays childish while the manga seems to mature a bit as the story goes on. I think that's mostly to do with how the fairies are voiced in the anime.
My only access to Kitchen Princess was a few volumes from my local library. Guess what the last volume they had was? That's right... Sora getting isekai'd by truck kun. Haunted me for _years._
28:57 okay but losing your sense of taste and/or smell could actually happen in real life when a person experience a traumatic moment. It's a PTSD response so Najika being in so much shock after Sora's death and blaming her own skill, her *cooking* ability, so much it can rewired her brain to trigger a traumatic response to protect herself: a.k.a losing her sense of taste Tho of course in real life you need extreme stress to trigger this sort of response 😥
Can confirm. I was in a car accident a few years back. I was lucky to have gotten out with effectively no injuries, though my car was completely totalled. It took a good four or five days before I was able to taste anything after that. Which really sucked, because it happened a couple days before Christmas. Had one of my favorite dishes, too. Might as well have been eating ash.
I told my friend about this manga and when I said "Oh and one of the main cast dies too" they were all shocked that a COOKING MANGA would have major character death in it
Kids anime were just so extra fucked up?? Like all the stuff that happened in Shugo Chara, many of them being very illegal?????? 😭😭😭 Like no one died but much worse happens
Why does Kitchen Princess have such an insane body count?! I can't believe they just kicked him off the planet like that AND switched him for a body double. Absolutely wild lol
I remember being absolutely flabbergasted reading this as a kid when they just straight up killed Sora like half way through the manga. kitchen princess was such a trip

I feel like teenage me also would have gotten very angry about this if I’d read it back then too, lmao. As an adult I can look at it and just laugh, but I would have been SORE over it like 12 years ago 😂

Just a pointer Arina Tanemura and Natsume Ando always have dark plot twists in their mangas (most of them) This one is by Ando so it’s quite tragic and if you have read Arisa or “We are not ourselves anymore” then it also follows a dark route
Kitchen Princess was the Shoujo manga that defined my Shoujo journey into my teen years (along with my tastes in fictional romances) so to see someone talk about the series after so long hit me with nostalgia hard. It was such a cute and surprisingly well written story (touching on such matters like eating disorders and sensory disassociation due to trauma) . The element that drew me into the manga was the mystery of the story. Favorite aspects were Akane and Seiya's character arcs as well as the slow burn romance between Najika and her love interests. The food illustrations and bonus recipes were the icing on the cake. So yes, I think of KP as a 2000s Shoujo classic and a manga I return to as a comfort series I can return to (even with the whole Sora dying thing midway through).
I distinctly remember reading this as one of my first manga ever and being so shocked at Sora’s death, asdfghjkl. Glad to see this manga being acknowledged, it really is charming in that early 2000s shoujo way
Kitchen princess was one of my favorite manga of all time. It had all the tropes and all the drama. I read this when i was pretty young. About 10-12 yrs old. I remember Akane's ED very vividly, and looking back, I can't help but think about how well they implemented it. It was pretty new at the time to talk about eating disorders, especially in reference to entertainers in Hollywood.
Oh My Gosh ! Nakayoshi Comics are important to my pre-teen era , I’m Pampered by Titles such as Gokkun Pucho (( Pixie Pop )) , Tina the Wind Up Toy , Little Angels Milky and Cute , Milk Shake , Cyber Idol Mink , Tokyo Mew Mew , Mermaid Melody , Sugar Sugar Rune , Hopper and Yummy Kitchen , Kamichama Karin , Shugo Chara , 12 Zign of Zodiac and of course Kitchen Princess Oh What a trip to Memory Lane

It’s one of the best manga reads I’ve read in a while! We love seeing kitchen princess talk! 💕🎂 (also Najika reminds me of cure whip XD)
I loved this manga when I was younger, but the part of it that really keeps it as a mainstay on my shelves is the fact that the recipes are amazingly delicious! Every single one I have tried has turned out perfectly. The recipes are fairly easy too. Some are surprisingly inventive and outside the box, which really opened up a world of fun and interesting cooking possibilities for me.
I remember being a kid and making the onion consume soup recipe i think it was at the back of volume 1 and i was like "wait...this is just french onion soup without enough cheese."
My school has the omnibus version of the Kitchen Princess manga and despite reading the manga after watching this video, I was still not mentally prepared
Kitchen Princess was my first manga when I was 8. My library had it in mismatched volumes and I had to beg to be taken to other libraries to find the other volumes. I'm 24 now and reread it every few years for nostalgia sake.

OMG i was obsessed with kitchen princess!! I remember crying over it when i was like 9. But i was surprised to see a video about it because people never talk about it anymore 😭
tbh when sora got killed i wasn't surprised at all since i found this manga in my mid-late teen years, so i was pretty familiar with tropes already, so "of course they choose the kill off one of the love interest for drama" is the first thing in my head, the pudding reveal though was kinda original i guess, but if they are all going to make such a happy friendship ending, while not keep sora alive, i think make sora be in a coma for a while while mc takes care of him and pair the model girl with daichi would be a better ending
Kitchen Princess was my first ever manga that reintroduced me to anime as a middle schooler…I remember reading the series starting at book 2 and being hooked just from the book recap and coming across the car accident
I binged read this in middle school and it had me begging for my girl to have a peaceful day. I’m so happy that so many have experienced one of my fondest mangas.
man this takes me back. i used to read this bcs my sister got nakayoshi magazine almost religiously. it felt like a fever dream with just how much the manga pushes the angst and the back and forth whiplash. though the mangaka's pacing has always been an issue for me in multiple titles so it's really not that surprising.
stop cuz this was the very first manga i ever read when i was in 5th grade i was so obsessed with it and got the physical copies and my friend even drew me a kitchen princess bookmark which i still have
Oh my god I'm actually so pleasantly surprised that a lot of people have gathered who read this manga. It was such a big part of my middle school days and I miss this manga so much. Always loved the little recipes in the end, but I never got to make any of them as a kid. This video reminded me that I should make one of thise recipes now that I'm an adult
Oh my gosh, I forgot that drama in this manga is absolutely insane my jaw literally dropped when I read Sora gets hit by the truck, still a fantastic manga tho ❤
i bought this manga randomly one day at barnes and noble because the cover was extremely cute and omg 😭💖 I became obsessed with it but i seriously wasn’t expecting all those plot twists

tbh when sora got killed i wasn't surprised at all since i found this manga in my mid-late teen years, so i was pretty familiar with tropes already, so "of course they choose the kill off one of the love interest for drama" is the first thing in my head, the pudding reveal though was kinda original i guess, but if they are all going to make such a happy friendship ending, while not keep sora alive, i think make sora be in a coma for a while while mc takes care of him and pair the model girl with daichi would be a better ending
This plot and the character archetypes being presented seem to me like a cooking-centric version of Kirarin Revolution.
I'm so glad I found this video. Kitchen Princess is one of my favorite series.
So there is a series by Jules Dapper where she recaps the series, if you want more video essays on the series.
omg omg omg i forgot this existed !!!! i probably read this 10+ years ago when i was like 12. what a throwback
Kitchen Princess was my first ever manga that reintroduced me to anime as a middle schooler…I remember reading the series starting at book 2 and being hooked just from the book recap and coming across the car accident
The way I couldn't put this series down in high school loll Loved it so much and still own it all
I binged read this in middle school and it had me begging for my girl to have a peaceful day. I’m so happy that so many have experienced one of my fondest mangas.
AHHH IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO REVIEW THIS, I LOVE THIS MANGA
man this takes me back. i used to read this bcs my sister got nakayoshi magazine almost religiously. it felt like a fever dream with just how much the manga pushes the angst and the back and forth whiplash. though the mangaka's pacing has always been an issue for me in multiple titles so it's really not that surprising.
stop cuz this was the very first manga i ever read when i was in 5th grade i was so obsessed with it and got the physical copies and my friend even drew me a kitchen princess bookmark which i still have
Oh my god I'm actually so pleasantly surprised that a lot of people have gathered who read this manga. It was such a big part of my middle school days and I miss this manga so much. Always loved the little recipes in the end, but I never got to make any of them as a kid. This video reminded me that I should make one of thise recipes now that I'm an adult
SO HAPPY TO SEE SOMEONE TALK ABOUT KITCHEN PRINCESS
Oh my gosh, I forgot that drama in this manga is absolutely insane my jaw literally dropped when I read Sora gets hit by the truck, still a fantastic manga tho ❤
An anime for this manga woulda gone crazy

It was wild to hear the rest of the plot after only reading the first three volumes as a kid
