Interesting coincidence-right when Karin first transformed and shouted “I am God,” the video was interrupted by an ad that opened with a man saying “That is crazy.”
I knew abot kimimichi karin cuz my sister was a fan of the manga . She loved the show awell, and I remember her showing me ,my first amv.The song was Avril Lavigne's girlfriend to this show. Personally didn't get into it wish I did read or watch some at lest.:v
Kamichama karin was actually my very first anime! So I was long acquainted with the show before the memes. I love it even now, though it definitely.. doesn't really hold up in some areas. For what it is, I think it has its charm, and I personally love the characters and some of the darker themes of the show. It has that specific early 2000s type of anime humor too, which you'll either love or hate.
@@irembal6011 False TBH. You can look at any of the official art and see that the eyes are just as far apart as the standard kamichama karin art. The eye drift is there in some of the media too, it was just a different time on the internet, awareness of singular frames of animation was lower and anime was still novel. Plus digicharat was beloved along with other comedy/slice of life anime which were huge at the time, unlike romance which is typically looked down on, so it didn't get memed the way karin did. But it was there.
Koge-Donbo's art style is iconic 2000's aesthetic in cute anime scene. Digi Charat was basically a comedy anime shorts about Dejiko wanting to be an idol and her rival Rabi-en-rose doing weird stuff. It was quite popular and had a lot of media from it. I remember it being quite meme'd on in northern europe anime communities, like a Finnish fandub/abridged series on TH-cam.
It was popular enough that super random anime like “Betterman” would reference it having characters dressed as the main character for a school festival event.
Not the ugliest, it’s just the creator (Koge-Donbo)’s artstyle. You should do a video on their most well-known work, Di Gi Charat and it’s many spinoffs, because it is lovely
kamichama karin was my first manga and i desperately wish is was more popular. the story and art is genuinely really good (and also super fucked up at times??) and the theme is a BANGER
Yeah the opening is seriously so good. I also wish koge donbo's other series pita-ten was more well known, but unfortunately the anime butchered the plot and lore and I don't think I've seen anyone mention it online, the story was one of my childhood favorites so it's really nostalgic for me and I actually really like the art. Sad it's so obscure
@darkphoenix9650 NO SAME the anime always caught me off guard with how it handled the plot, it felt a lot more ?? idk. but i try and reread the series every few years and i always get caught off guard with how convoluted and messed up the lore is
This is a very very emotionally effective thread for me! If you would like someone to collab with you on that Karin video I’d happily appear in it, and promote it on my channel too. I’d love to appear in something like that! Kamichama Karin is also a very special series to me too, and I never thought I’d encounter other people who were into it in the modern day. It was even to the point that I started to reply on Twitter threads that featured the infamous meme, leaving my explanations of what the show actually is, and including comparisons to how they actually improved that infamous face, in the Blu ray version.
I actually used to own the original manga for this when I was a kid! It's nice to see someone taking an actual look at this series outside of just, well, talking about the infamous meme. I wouldn't say it was my favorite series ever, but I liked the art a lot and was very familiar with Di Gi Charat.
I realized the opening theme is an Ali Project song. It’s unrelated to the video but Ali Project is probably one of the best J-POP music groups imo, they also created the op themes for the Rozen Maiden series.
I remember watching this years ago when I was in my magical girl phase (still am lol) and I just loved it! I really miss this era of 90s/2000s magical girl anime, newer shows just don’t have that same charm
When I watched kamichama karin, I wasn't weirded out by the artstyle. It was only when I saw the memes that I realized that it was kinda funky. But still, I liked it for the story and the characters, so I don't really mind the art and I still rewatch it occasionally.
Kamichama Karin holds a special place in my heart. I’m 29 now, but it still gives me the same warm fuzzies I had in middle school seeing the cute Kazune/Karin manga panels. I’m so happy to see someone acknowledging this anime and positively reviewing it. This video is motivating me to reread the manga 💕
Same here, I'm 22 years old now, and kamichama Karin still has a special place in my heart, more like this anime patterns me forever. It always brings a lot memories everytime i re-read or re-watching this anime :'
I grew up reading the manga for Kamichama Karin. I still have my original copies and decided to source and purchase Kamichama Karin Chu. The anime is kind've a combination of both the original series and the sequel series. I absolutely adore the manga though. You should totally read it.
Omg, Kamichama Karin is actually what got me into anime! I read the Tokyopop manga when I was a kid. Loved the sparkly art (even though it didn’t translate the best to the anime all the time 😅)
Commenting again for the interaction i absolutely LOVE how you take a commercial break and add in vintage commercials! That is just so cool and unique. I've never seen any other TH-camr do that and I really enjoy watching those vintage commercials!
In defense of time travel love triangles- Instead of trying to set up a love triangle when we know the outcome, it could add a nice layer of grief and heartache. With Seiya and Usagi, for example, how much more tragic would it have been if they both knew their relationship had an expiration date, but loved each other anyways? Each date and embrace is tainted by the knowledge of what the future holds. Usagi is reminded everytime she looks at her own daughter. Doomed by the narrative, seen more as an impossible romance instead of a love triangle
I hope someday we will get another kamichama Karin anime. I NEED to see Karin's couple transformation with the three boys !!! I love the op though, I think it's suit for the theme of this series
I haven't finished the video yet, just want to thank you for covering Kamichama Karin I can't get into magical girls genre/shows, however Karin is my first childhood magical girl that I hold dearly to this day next to Charm Angel ☺
I grew up with the Pita-Ten manga, one of Koge-Donbo's other works. if you think Karin is wild, Pita-Ten is way crazier in my opinion! it left a huge impression on me despite the final few volumes being so tragic and unexpected that it scared me into blocking out the big twist from my memory...
I love pita-ten so much, though it was unexpected I'm actually glad the tragic backstory was there because it adds depth to Misha's behaviour instead of her just being a hyper and cutesy girl
I do remember watching this when I was younger and remember liking it despite not knowing wtf is happening lol. This show also made me like the name "Karin" and I'd use that name for almost all of my old OCs Also, gosh I absolutely LOVE the vibe and style of your channel, the ad break is also really nostalgic. Keep up the good work!
Once I saw the manga art style, I immediately recognized Koge-Donbo as the author of Pita-Ten. That series was so good, even though I hate the manga ending because it makes me hurt so bad. Still, after hearing more about Karin, I can say the story is very her (confusing but engaging plot lines and characters with the same name for Drama included)
Just started watching your videos and I love them! They’re like a warm hug from an old friend. As a recovering “tomboy” I didn’t read or watch a lot of cutesy girly anime growing up but as an adult, I have a newfound appreciation for magical girls, fairies, and other “girly” content. Thank you for helping me nurturing the inner child I never got to be ❤
honestly i think the weird proportion was the anmation studio's fault,, Koge-donbo's art style is so cool, her drawings are all so cute and none of them seems weird at all. Kamichama karin has always been my favorite! I had to watch it three times and read kamichama karin chu to fully understand the whole thing but i think it was worth it! It has a special place in my heart. Anw great video! you did really well summarizing the story, and i'm really happy to see a video about Kamichama Karin since it seems to be not as popular as other Mahou shoujo anime ^^ :D
Wow I never knew Kamichima Karin was an anime!!! I read the manga in elementary school waaay back in the early 2000s and I still have them on a shelf!!! What a throwback! LMAO
I actually own the original manga of this series, now I gotta read it thanks to this review, thanks! Also yes I absolutely adore her dress it’s so pretty!
I saw Kamichama back in the wild west of TH-cam when you could get away with posting shows in 3 parts. I got a lot of inspiration for some of my gijinka anime Kirby stuff as a kid & enjoyed the anime. Kinda wish the sequel manga got an anime cause I didn’t know it was manga only. Also the leaving bit was supposedly a lie to hide he died.
I actually wasn’t aware of the memes when I found this anime in an obscure site. I thought it was beautiful. I really like the characters designs and concept and I thought to myself I wish every anime had designs like this. So underrated.
It's kinda ashamed that Kamichama is the only known anime that is full of and alway's filled to the complete brim with meme's and not her in the anime me myself included. And even though it's not the ugliest nor even the most non perfect magical girl anime it's the most underrated anime ever but the animation on this anime looks pretty good and amazing at best except for the horrendous face good grief that horrendous face it looks hideous and the most disturbing yet disgusting face in the history of anime history,I've felt so bad cause I've kinda like the art style and the background's of the anime in particular and also the story it's just so very dark and deeply much edgy in my opinion this anime and the sequel manga looks amazingly underrated and it's the most non perfect yet amazing hidden gem since Cute High Earth Defense Club Love! and also by the way I've absolutely love your video so much thank you so much for tackling this underrated gem/hidden gem I've very much appreciated and plus it's one of my all time favorite video's that I've ever seen sailor gaurdian hope your videos are wonderfully sublime and very superb I've going to tip my hat to ya with grander deeply respect so as always keep it up the fantastic work bc you are the best.
Omg I loved this series as a kid the manga is what got me into reading manga in the first place since I wanted to know what happened after the anime ended!
"the only thing i didn't like is the intro song, it wasn't very good" OUCH :'( knife to my heart. this was one of my favorite anime/manga series as a kid and I've always loved the intro. but i guess ali project isn't for everyone lmao
Boy why you so eyes? 🤨 But fr this story looks so adorable and the art is just as sweet. I only found out like a week ago that it’s supposed to be a shoujo. Will definitely check it out as the story kinda reminds me of another obscure series I have called 13th cat. Also didn’t know the creator made the Digi Chara cat girl :3
Thank you for this great video. I loved the Kamichama Karin manga as a tween and am happy to hear you talking so positivly about the show ^^ Your editing is really cool.
Of course thats ali project 😂 They did OPs most of my known doll/gothic themes like roze maiden, resurrection princess, and another. No wonder when you hear like 3-4 beats you can already guess its ALI PROJECT
I always wanted to try to watch this shows but I just can’t forget that cursed meme, after watching this maybe I’ll try it out Update: I have finally watched this anime and I wish this anime was more popular. I could see if the anime changed its artstyle this could probably be a popular series. I could go on and on about this series but all I will say is watch the anime or read the manga!
coming from a huge kamichama karin defender, def reccomend! i prefer the manga as i believe the pacing is better, but the anime is still really nice too imo!
Kamichama Karin is my childhood anime so it shocked me that nowadays people know it for the memes. I've always seen it as just the early 2000s artstyle lmao
I was a 10 year old girl in the suburbs of Houston, Texas when I saw my classmate looking at the Kamichama Karin manga at the annual school book fair. I had never seen anything like it, and thought it was so cool-looking that I ended up buying the 7th volume and reading it first (so it took me a bit to understand the story). I fell in love with the magical style, I traced and practiced drawing the characters, it became my first anime too, and here I am over a decade later, still into manga and anime and having met friends because of it. I was so disheartened when I found out like 5 years ago that people know Kamichama Karin, but only for that meme, although it is pretty funny looking. I really appreciate you giving the story a chance and sharing it with TH-cam. 💕✨ EDIT: Is that the freaking "constant as the stars above" Barbie lullaby at the end?!
I remember watching Kamichama Karin back in the day and strangely owning the second volume of Chu? It was such a whirlwind of a show, but I loved Karin and Kazune. Apparently so much that I revisited it for an MEP part I made like 10 years ago haha Would recommend if you can take a little absurdity! Also the OP song is not great haha agree with you there. Thanks for the video! It was fun to revisit these characters and remember characters and plots I had totally forgotten about.
Seeing Candy in the video kind of shocked me, and i’d love to see a video more about Candy Candy lol since its a comfort show, but i understand if its not exactly popular enough or the genre of videos you make
I didn't know she was from this! I just know her from that mean when someone sad anime girls that look like bugs are their new favorite thing. They said She looks like an alien bug 😂 one that's pretending to be a human and trying to blend in but failing
I started collecting the manga bacause I liked the drawingstyle and the costumes. The story itself is pretty wierd but I think specially the anime suffers from rush and underbudgeting wich results in the wierd frames people rightfully has made memes of 😂
Goddamnnn all this shoujo stuff taking me backk!! I use to hunt them down a lot back when I was in elementary XDD I actually first found Kamichama Karin from one of it's manga covers when I was surfing through Google cuz the art was just sooo adorableeee~ I was actually desperately looking for the title until I eventually found it and binge watch the hell of it. The twist were definitely wild, I feel like it has a rather a slow start but it eventually picked itself up halfway through until I saw Suzu and I'm like nani?? Now I need to read the manga?? XDD I didn't know where to read it so I kinda stopped with just the anime.
My introduction to Karin was a tumblr roleplayer, but I never really knew what it was about. She had a Karin. That was many years ago. Looks like it Hoooo lad. I remember seeing a few episodes of Sugar way back in the day. You're in for a treat with the June Bride episode. 😂
I read the second manga many years ago and then went back and watched the anime followed by reading the first manga and then just doing the entire thing once over so that I had everything in the right order. I loved Kami-sama Karin and still have all of the second series manga as an adult. Its very cute
WHAT i havent seen the video yet but how can anyone think that i watched the anime and shes so cute and the story is so good and also sad ToT and also rly goody sometimes. i have to read the manga sometime loooking forward to watching the video though :D love this channel
I watched this like a year ago, the story is so interesting! I really want to read the manga from the beginning some day, because I feel like the addition of some parts of the sequel manga into the anime made it a little bit confusing lol. Great video as always!
Oh that's a lovely surprise to see you talk about Kamichama Karin! I currently have the whole manga series including Kamichama Karin Chu, but have yet to see the anime 👀
Nothing to do with the (awesome) video, but the moment the soundtrack of that one ps2 Disney princess game started you better believe I was hit by that good ol' nostalgia-
i used to read her first and second manga in highschool, tbh i kinda liked reading it and was kinda sad i couldn't find more than the second manga in the school's library. glad she's being talked about
Whoops I love the theme song, but it’s definitely better suited to something like Rozen Maiden or Vampire Knight and doesn’t match Kamichama Karin at all. Also, I want Karin’s wardrobe 👏
did you read/watch the whole series? id argue it fits a lot for the later stuff, its surprisingly dark and id say it borders on moee dark magical girl anime territory like madoka than happier ones
I decided to watch this video to have something on while I ate not expecting a throw back to my middle school years! 😲 I didn't know much about the series besides the first and possibly second book to the sequel manga that I had picked up at my local library, so it's crazy to finally have a name to put to this manga I nearly forgot about! Mind you, I probably picked up the series years after it finishes publishing but great to realize my memories of it weren't a fever dream 😂❤
knowing this show’s reputation still makes me upset as someone who read every part of the manga i could get my hands on as a little kid. i loved it so so much and imagine little me’s horror when i found out what people thought of its adaptation
Never heard of this show, I thought the screenshot came from a VN adaptation, but I legit froze when I heard the surprise ALI PROJECT song at the beginning I love them 😢❤
The glasses guy looks so normal. He's not over the top like other Magical Girl villains, and he certainly doesn't look stupid, so I'm glad to hear he's about as effective at being a bad guy as Team Rocket. Give it up for defying tropes of glasses characters being smart!
This was the first manga I ever bought with my own money, and I was the only person I knew who had read it! I love the art so much, it inspired me to learn how to draw!! Also the theme song is a banger sorry
I read the manga for this and another one of the author's works (Pita Ten) back in the day. It's wild to see people knowing this only from a meme. I now want to read Pita Ten again.
This and Tokyo mew mew were my first shojo back in middle school! Such a great time. I never watched the anime version and from here it looks uh, very unhinged, but the original manga (not the sequel lol, wasn’t as much of a fan) was really great! Karin and Kazune ended up being really sweet. 💜 Also the style worked a lot better in print imho Also Micchi was my fave I loved him so much !!!! I’ve always had a track record of my faves dying so I was so pissed when he temporarily died 😂
I knew about this series since I was a child and even when the characters were not being drawn horribly off model, the designs still freaked me out. I'm not even sure why, I just hated the artstyle so much.
Interesting coincidence-right when Karin first transformed and shouted “I am God,” the video was interrupted by an ad that opened with a man saying “That is crazy.”
It’s kinda sad that Kamichama is only known through memes and not her anime, me myself included
Honestly for me its even sadder that people only talk about her anime the manga is really pretty and the style works better there
I know the anime before the meme, and yeah, I wish I can recommend the anime without "Oh, that funny meme, right?"

Oh I love the intro!
I AM GOD!!!
Sonic.EXE
"the only thing i didn't like is the intro song, it wasn't very good"
OUCH :'( knife to my heart. this was one of my favorite anime/manga series as a kid and I've always loved the intro. but i guess ali project isn't for everyone lmao
🤣 i never knew where that meme came from. But the characters' design is cute. I remembered the X-ray meme of her head 😅 the story seems good too
Boy why you so eyes? 🤨
But fr this story looks so adorable and the art is just as sweet. I only found out like a week ago that it’s supposed to be a shoujo. Will definitely check it out as the story kinda reminds me of another obscure series I have called 13th cat. Also didn’t know the creator made the Digi Chara cat girl :3
this series actually sounds pretty hilarious and worth watching.. oh and your voice is really nice to listen to, glad i found your channel
This is actually a great video! Plus, your voice sounds adorable!
Lol finally someone makes a video on this anime i was always so curious what the anime in the meme was about
giving props to her VA what a range lol
it would be nice to see tou cover Pita Ten as well, as messy as that one is i love pita ten so much
Thank you for this great video. I loved the Kamichama Karin manga as a tween and am happy to hear you talking so positivly about the show ^^ Your editing is really cool.
Of course thats ali project 😂
They did OPs most of my known doll/gothic themes like roze maiden, resurrection princess, and another.
No wonder when you hear like 3-4 beats you can already guess its ALI PROJECT
I always wanted to try to watch this shows but I just can’t forget that cursed meme, after watching this maybe I’ll try it out
Update: I have finally watched this anime and I wish this anime was more popular. I could see if the anime changed its artstyle this could probably be a popular series. I could go on and on about this series but all I will say is watch the anime or read the manga!
Once you get past the first episode you acclimate to the style pretty quickly
coming from a huge kamichama karin defender, def reccomend! i prefer the manga as i believe the pacing is better, but the anime is still really nice too imo!
Kamichama Karin is my childhood anime so it shocked me that nowadays people know it for the memes. I've always seen it as just the early 2000s artstyle lmao
I really love your editing style, it feels so nostalgic and soft 🥺
I was a fan of many of Koge-Donbo's work around the time this anime aired, so those eyes are full of nostalgia for me.
EDIT: Is that the freaking "constant as the stars above" Barbie lullaby at the end?!
The thumbnail had me wanting to shout “YOKKYUN!!!” into the void for some unknown reason…
A bit of a twisted topic, but I certainly adore this week's review!!! 😎🔥🔥🔥
EVERYONE WAKE UP SGHOPE HAS POSTED A VIDEO 🎉
:,0 kamichama Karin was the first manga I picked up (literally from the local library ) bc the cover, her, was so so pretty.
I remember watching Kamichama Karin back in the day and strangely owning the second volume of Chu? It was such a whirlwind of a show, but I loved Karin and Kazune. Apparently so much that I revisited it for an MEP part I made like 10 years ago haha
Would recommend if you can take a little absurdity! Also the OP song is not great haha agree with you there.
Thanks for the video! It was fun to revisit these characters and remember characters and plots I had totally forgotten about.
I'm just glad to know where that meme pic came from
Seeing Candy in the video kind of shocked me, and i’d love to see a video more about Candy Candy lol since its a comfort show, but i understand if its not exactly popular enough or the genre of videos you make
It’s the art style! I remember reading the manga when I was a little girl! The style is way better on manga, the epitome of cuteness!! ❤
I didn't know she was from this! I just know her from that mean when someone sad anime girls that look like bugs are their new favorite thing. They said She looks like an alien bug 😂 one that's pretending to be a human and trying to blend in but failing
Oh wow i love the intro song a lot, loved it since i was a kid
Looks like it
Hoooo lad. I remember seeing a few episodes of Sugar way back in the day. You're in for a treat with the June Bride episode. 😂
9:05 Isn't that song from the disney princess game. The nostalgia!!!
Lol. I ❤ this channel very wholesome
"I AM GOD!!!!!" -The Best Magical Girl
This brought back memories !
Nothing to do with the (awesome) video, but the moment the soundtrack of that one ps2 Disney princess game started you better believe I was hit by that good ol' nostalgia-
i used to read her first and second manga in highschool, tbh i kinda liked reading it and was kinda sad i couldn't find more than the second manga in the school's library. glad she's being talked about
Your editing is so funny tho
this was so fun to watch, feel like i traveled 10+ years to the past when i rediscovered anime with, kamichama Karin
You always end up giving me new show recommendations. I’m gonna have to watch this myself now. Also you’re hilarious.
I used to read the manga! Oh the art in the manga was so pretty!
Same! I'm a massive Ali Project fan. But I can also see how their music is an acquired taste.
I want the manga now and thanks for making this video!
Great review! Made me honestly want to watch the series. Also, I'm glad to finally place a name to that hilarious meme
i only hope one day you cover pita ten- the manga is so insane near the end
YOU KNOW IT GETS SERIOUS WHEN THE DISNEY WII SOUNDTRACK COMES ON!!!
WHAT? THE OPENING SONG IS BAD? ITS SOOO GOOD XD
I genuinely hate it 😂
@@sghope I love the song 🤣 it's my favorite from the singer
@@kiradarkangel4563She is the same singer from Rozen Maiden
💜 Also the style worked a lot better in print imho
Also Micchi was my fave I loved him so much !!!! I’ve always had a track record of my faves dying so I was so pissed when he temporarily died 😂
I am obsessed with its opening since 2015❤
I knew about this series since I was a child and even when the characters were not being drawn horribly off model, the designs still freaked me out. I'm not even sure why, I just hated the artstyle so much.
i love your videos this is so entertaining
