Love making crumb pieces. It is slow going, and a lot of fun. I use them in blocks, i.e. center of a star block or part of a HST. Using crumbs sorted by color, I made 2 twin quilts with a XXXL wonky bird taking up the whole center of the quilt, blues for the body, purples for the wings, greens for the head etc. Your video has inspired me to just go ahead and sew up all the crumbs in the stuffed to the brim bin and continue until they are all sewn. Something to think about. Thanks.
I have made 2 crumb quilts. My squares were 3.5” with 1.5" sashing. I make crumbs from every project I make so I can use EVERY BIT of that $12 per yard fabric. It takes a really long time to make enough blocks for a quilt but it is so much fun.
Thank you so much Annette, I really really enjoyed watching you creating those pieces of fabric from tiny tiny bits of fabric. I’m so looking forward to seeing your next video when you make the zipper pouches. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I admit I was hesitant to do this, but figured, if nothing else somebody else could laugh at me! It was not exactly fun, but definitely an accomplishment. Thanks for watching!
I just found you and you got me started again. I was in a quilting and sewing slump. After watching you clear out all of your scraps, I finished two quilting projects over the weekend. Thank you 😊

I like the idea of using as much of the fabric we buy and doing things with all of it Good to show how you can make something out of things ordinarily throw away Besides zipper pouches - shopping totes or fabric baskets can be made Thank you!
I am sort of binging on your videos. Love them. These videos are some of my favorite. They are great to use as center pieces for different blocks. It is kind like working with mini blocks or postage stamp blocks but easier. I don’t normally do bags or to many mug rugs but I can use up a lot of scraps creating fabric to use. I have to say like you mentioned the pile or drawer grows over night. Twice I have cleared out my bag started trimming mens dress shirts and all of a sudden I am back where I was. Merry Christmas and thanks for your tutorials.
I made curtains this way. I had a 4 1/2" ruler and used it to guide the size of my units. I just kept making and making. Used up about half of my crumbs and fed my "itty-bitty-tiny" OCD cravings.
One more thing! I set my scraps at an angle on a foundation. When I started watching you, I would try to keep my cutoff pieces at as minimum as I could .... tedious, stingy, and made more scraps! Totally frustrating (well, not too much, but it did seem almost like a lost cause). I forget which video the turned the light on in my head, but THIS time, I am making BIGGER pieces along the edges of my bags parts - - two benefits with one seam .... what I am trimming off will become the other half of another block. Makes perfect sense to me!
Its the sewing little bits together that i enjoy. Its so relaxing, so I'm very happy if it takes me a long time. This was interesting but a bit too indistrialised for me. Love your tutorials.

I don't really do anything with them, either, except use for leaders/enders. That alone is a huge helping eliminating the thread nesting when chain piecing.
Love the end product but as a newbie to crumb quilts would have found it useful to see more clearly what some of the components looked like at each stage of chaining. this looks a great way to use my fabric stash!
Next time! But I can tell you the crumbs and shapes did not match much, the shapes were very wonky! I just generally get them close enough in size to stitch a seam together, then trim of excess before pressing open. If you are a newbie I would maybe sit down with your crumbs/scraps and just sort into about 4 size piles max. Start stitching the larger pile first, putting 2 together, etc. Then anything that doesn't match and you trim off can be placed into a smaller size pile if it can be used. Then start with the next size down pile and get through "twosies" and start on "foursies" and just keep going. Have fun!
As the pieces got bigger did you give consideration to which bits you put together, in terms of colour and pattern or did you just grab whatever piece was next in the pile?
Ha! I have a different iron on different days. We live and we learn. Currently using a cheap iron I had to get when my old one broke, but I'm shopping for one with auto shut-off.
I am thinking about doing this and making an apron for my girls in the family. Some of the fabrics they would recognize. Maybe it would be a great 'memory apron' ! What do you think ?
My favorite thing to do when I want to just sew & not think about what I'm going to make from my blocks. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video!

He is a sweet kitty ❤️😻☀️
Wow! I don’t have your patience! I lov3 scrap quilts, but crumbs are beyond me. Those will make wonderful bags.

Thanks for the inspiration to use up even the tiniest scrap! Awseome!
Thanks for watching!
Fabulous!! I am a thrifty Scot!! The more we use the more we save!!
Awesome Marsha! My dad was half Scottish, so me too I guess! I love using up my scraps!

Дуже дякую!

It's funny how the scraps multiply but that's part of what we do, right? Thanks for watching!
Love it! Good job
Glad you like it!
Thank you, maybe one day I'll have the courage to do that. It really comes out cute.
I hope so! ☀️ Thank you!

Me encanta esta idea, desde Venezuela mi saludos y que Dios la bendiga
Gracias! ☀️❤️
Beautifully made fabric. Love it
Thank you! Cheers! ☀️🧵
I love using string block off cuts in my crumb blocks. I only remove the bits that would 90% be in the seam allowance.
That's awesome! Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much for the advice! P. S. Your cat is like mine for snoozing on my crafts.....
I really need strategy for dealing with the curved pieces, selvages, frayed edges, etc. when dealing with crumbs.
It's definitely hard to deal with.❗️I just try to sew two together and keep on going as best I can!☀️
As the pieces got bigger did you give consideration to which bits you put together, in terms of colour and pattern or did you just grab whatever piece was next in the pile?
☀️ For this video I did not think about color/pattern. I just kept sewing ☀️
@@sunbeamfabricart Great, I love the idea of freestyling it!

@@christinasee5157 After burning my carpet..... 😭 I decided I'd better get one.
I like to do this when I want to sew, but I don't have the mental energy to concentrate on a detailed project.
Oh boy I know that feeling! That's when I just sew it all into a bolt of fabric to use later! ☀️☀️☀️
I am thinking about doing this and making an apron for my girls in the family. Some of the fabrics they would recognize. Maybe it would be a great 'memory apron' ! What do you think ?
I love memory quilts and projects! I hope you have SEW much fun working on that!
Why don't quilt sewers like using servers? They sew neat seams, also trims at same time.
Probably the additional thread would cause bulk. Plus the expense. 👍🏼. Let me know if you find the answer! Thanks for watching !
I love what you did! I also really like this video:

Too much work!!
Lol
HA! It's IS a lot of work. The smaller the pieces, the more time it takes! ! ☀️
