Crocheting Over Wire

Crocheting over wire is a great skill to add to your repertoire as it will allow you to give structure and pose-ability to your projects.
To crochet over wire, simply treat the wire as if it is the previous row in a regular project. After getting your yarn onto the wire, you will put your hook under the wire, pull up loop, yarn over again, and pull through both loops (single crochet). Keep crocheting along the length of the wire. You can seal off both ends, or leave a long wire end to insert into a medium such as styrofoam.

As long as you weave them in to avoid your work unraveling, or glue the ends down somewhere, then I don't see why not! ☺️

Do you have wire throughout the entire base of that piece and the lily pad as well?

Hello ☺️ the base of the piece is actually a small plastic take out container! There is only wire used in the stem of the lily pad, and not the leaf itself.

For attaching, I sew the pieces together with a needle and thread. It is tedious, but it's the most secure. If I ever get back to making these again, I'll be sure to film it and share!

I work as a florist, so I purchase it from our floral supplier, but you can get it at a lot of different places. Google "floral wire" and you'll be able to find somewhere near you 😊
