I used to chase Subarus for hours on my bikes! They never won but they were always up for a race! When I stopped riding it was the only car I really wanted to replace the bikes with
Great memories. 20 odd years ago I had a grey import 2 door which had been heavily fettled with before it had left Japan. Loved it to bits but it's the shortest time I've ever kept a car - it was either keep the Impreza or keep my licence. I sold it after a few months and replaced it with an aging 928 which actually slowed me down.
I have become Subaru obsessed in my old age. I have a 2002 WRX that I blew the engine in 2012 at 170,000 hard miles. I finally got a engine in 2019 and started redoing the whole thing. Engine, suspension and paint. I bought a 2009 Forester X to daily while working on the WRX but ended up modifying it for street duty. It has coilovers and every adjustable aftermarket suspension part that will fit a STi. Next is a EZ30 swap, STi 6speed and rear R180. A couple months ago I rescued a 2006 Forester that was about to go to the salvage yard. It has 335,000 miles on it and I paid $500 for it. All it needed was a crankshaft pulley and a radiator. It had minor rust so next spring I will drop a JDM replacement engine in it and drive it another 300,000 miles.
November in Wales! I agree! The yearly pilgrimage of the early start, full boost heading into the valleys! You’d always end up in a group of like minded similarly equipped drivers heading for that early stage. Petrol stations would be full of rally jackets and warm tyres. The spirited drive into wales was as fun as the day ahead. 2024 is a different place definitely, but we are very lucky to have had those times. Great video, feel free to reminisce at will 👌
Love it, I'm V2 obsessed I have 4 of them, Std RA, V Limited RA, a 555 and a std v2 and about 4 jackets. Cannot drive around the towns unless you have the flap up :)
Halcyon days indeed. Chatsworth House on spectator Sunday. Never made it to the forests though. Had a GC8 Turbo 2000 and fitted a RA roof vent amongst other typical mods. Bloody loved that car. Miss it every day.
Used to love following the Lombard / Network Q . We usually started in Yorkshire / Nottinghamshire on the Sunday morning then travelled to North Wales Sunday night , sleeping in the car for the first forest stages Monday morning . Then upto the Lakes , Grizedale usually then finished up in the Scottish borders ...those were the days . Can remember McRae in the Legacy , wow , coming round the hillside with the boxer popping and banging , Penmachno if my memory serves me right . Spot on as Derek Ringer would say ...that's the video by the way 😅 .
I can remember being 5 years old stood on the top of Margam Forrest watching solberg flying in the blob eye Impreza on his way to take the world championship, wish it would come back, fingers crossed we’ll see rali bae Ceredigion on a wrc calendar soon🤞🏼
From my understandin none of the type ra's came with alloy boots, only the version 1 sti every came with them. And im pretty sure the front guards being alloy is a myth for all gc8 models

Best car ever built in 90s
I am so jealous of those of you that got these cars. Not getting a WRX in America until 2002 kept us from some really special cars.
