Well, as freestyle is spontaneous, you have to remind yourself it is entirely dependent on your mood and mind state at the time. What's also a great tip is to write punchlines a whole lot and read up on things that can be used in a punchline. Those tend to be fallback lines, lines that you can always re-work and re-word or even used to reverse the position on who you are talking about and also put an end to a topic when you start feeling it run dry. Another great tip is to not focus on having an amazing incredible flow, just flow how it feels most natural in the moment, pauses for dramatic effect also help too.

I have wrote many raps and mostly about my life, sad I'm too broke to have a studio of my own and the city where I live in isn't really fond of Hip-Hop. the key to bein a great freestyler is to read books and broaden ur vocabulary. watch tv, movies, and cartoons.. and keep urself up to date with current events by watchin the news and reading the newspaper.. if u do that, with practice, u will slowly become a great freestyler.

That sounds like such a task! It's like you deliberately have to stay abreast of pop culture to deliver rhymes. That's actually one thing I find off-putting in rap- as a global listener, I have no clue many times about the pop topic being rapped about (especially with me not being from the US). That doesn't happen a lot with rock lyrics, for instance.

My biggest tip is to learn to relax. I get called out on the spot and get nervous all the time but my writing is hella good. So the words to come but you have to settle down, think, might have to talk to yourself b4 it finally clicks. You may find that you are better than you think! Writing is great. But you find your true voice through freestyling!

The Evil Defender rhyming is easy, so I make it a little harder for me, multi syllable patterns is what I'm best at doing at times, exept wordplay, I'm working on that, you shouldn't give it up if you cant simply rhyme a word (im not too serious about it though)
Epik Hell Sword that's why a multi syllable rhyme comes off handy for me - charming boy, aren't being joined sympathy, hint at me, multiplied by three, utilized by me ect what I need to make sure is to actually make sense to it, not just because it rhymes, and I know, a better vocabulary to it is better than that but those who said that haven't realized I can just look up a synonym to a word on google and start sounding like I have a rich vocabulary, so fuck them, they can't rhyme like me so they're jelly jelly!

This is nice.. I didn't consider there was even a way for someone to tell me to freestyle better. You gave a direction. Even a topic bc you kinda got rid of the useless topics and put the more important ones to light as your 3 steps. I was specifically looking for how to find yourself in your freestyles bc I don't want to sound like him ya know? .. this gave me the insight to be my own and create from there.

Great video as always Drew. I just wanted to point out something you said that doesn't quite sit right with me. In that freestyle, yes, Shady keeps it simple by not being lyrical and keeping it entertaining and sweet but, in other freestyles shady does show off how he can come up with clever multis and all sorts of internal rhymes on the spot.
My Fault is so great, honestly in my opinion the best on the album.
