I am not a watchmaker ,just someone that loves watches. Also I wear all 6 that I have. All my watches are divers ( because I'm rough on everything/ even me) but I have had to mellow and I'm discovering field watches. I like smaller watches because they don't get in the way as much ( so I don't break them as fast) and I have small wrists. Also my first good watche ( for me) was a Tag-Heuer professional 1000 night diver). And it was small and thin so it set a presetent of what I want in a watch( it took 5years of EMS in Miami, in the 80' s) I like looking for old watches and now at least I know how they come apart. I would never in a million years think they were built like this. I would never attempt to work on one ( I'll keep you in mind) but it is nice to know. Knowledge is a powerful tool. Thanks for the video.
Hi, Peter, thanks for this awesome video. Any thoughts on replacing the crown vs replacing just the gasket inside the crown? I’m having trouble getting either. Thanks
Hello, I have a thin o matic that looks like the masterpiece line. Similarly designed to this one used in your video. I'm in need of a crown. Any idea the spec of the crown? Watch is dated 1972
The best place to find a crystal for that model is Otto Frei watch parts. They are in California. Call, and ask to speak with the parts people. They will need the model of your watch. As an alternative esslinger.com has crystals for those also but they are not as helpful.
Hi Peter! Great video, hard to find an informative video on this hamilton caliber. Would you happen to know the specs of the female part of the stem on these cal 649 Hamilton? Im looking to get a replacement through esslinger and the like as I recently acquired one but it’s missing the female part that’s supposed to be attached to the crown as you’re showing in the video.
Call ofrie instead. You can speak to someone who will be able to reference the correct part there. Esslinger doesn’t have the reference numbers by caliber.
Please go to my facebook pate, and send me a DM... If you can send a pic or two of the watch, that will help... Thanks Keven; facebook.com/myjewelrybench
just got an October 1969 -685 17 jewel swiss (my birth month and year 😀) thanks to your video I opened it easily and it actually had my initials scratched into the case with 10/6 just 4 days off my birthday!!! it's only holding about 12-15 hours and loses about 4 minutes in that span, crystal has scratches and is dull but face is immaculate with no scratching and the tritium is dead but glows for a few seconds with bright light from flashlight.. do I have the mainspring replaced to get better time? what size for this model?
I bet that the mainspring is dirty. Most watchmakers would just swap it out. With a short runtime, just changing the mainspring may not be enough. A test for that is to see if the runtime extended over a period of time as parts loosen up. However cleaning the mainspring and the watch is a good start. Replace the mainspring and clean the watch is better.
12 years ago, I bought this non-working bottom model, when I disassembled in the same way as you did, I discovered a poljiot movement, I bought it for 100 dollars at Pawn Star. I am looking for the original Hamilton movement, but it is very difficult, I think to put a recent eta failing that, but a Russian movement, yuck ..

What band did you put on it? Brand name?
Thought these had fixed springbars. Mine does. By the way, the crown on my watch broke off.
Great video. I notice that this particular gg-w-113 has REMOVABLE spring bars….how cool is that!…I hate havIng to use NATO straps,

I would suggest purchasing Ana assortment from a supplier like esslinger

Tough crown to find. Substitute a 3.5 mm crown with no. 10 thread and you need a female stem if you don’t have one. Also a no. 10 thread.
@@watchesandjewelry thank u sir! Thanks for the vid

@@watchesandjewelry ty what is the model spring for this one? or just call Otto? I got sausage fingers so I'm not touching it lol
Kill two birds. Call Otto, make sure they have it. Then you can order and have it in three days. Great people over there. Even if it’s California. Lol
@@watchesandjewelry lol TY looks like the Stella wec301 should be the crystal too just to have a spare

The hack is broken, bent or mid aligned
I need ur consultation in a watch, can i have ur email to contact u professionally ?

That looks fake. It doesn’t have fixed lug bars like the actual issued watches had
