    I've got a Lantac in my BCM rifle and it works as you would expect. It has some features for running suppressed that are beneficial. Never had an issue and it cleans up easily. I don't think you need to run a $250 BCG but it certainly doesn't hurt. The BCG is the heart of the rifle. If you were going to have 2 key items it would be the barrel and the BCG.

      Don't forget the buffer. Proper functioning is a balance of all three to avoid smooth functioning without a recoil bounce. There are vids in here for the proper weighted buffer and there are about a dozen different buffers for full automatic, M16, AR15 and M4s. If you change bolt groups and go to a heavier barrel (or a longer one-20") you will need to address the buffer.

      Exactly what I am struggling with while doing a new upper. Going to go BCM upper, MCMR handguard, Ballistic Advantage Premium 223 Wylde 14.5 barrel, et al. I have had great experiences with NP3 but not many people make them. Is the Guissele worth it? I’d really like a BCG that’s easy to clean. I am disabled and would rather spend more time shooting than cleaning.

    Good timing, i just got a FN bcg from sharkarms in the mail 20 min ago. F stamped carrier, mpf stamped bolt. Good stuff. Going away from the fancy coatings now and just stick to the tried and true

    • @michaelpawluk6791
      @michaelpawluk6791 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have that BCG from them too! I got it for my FN m16a4 upper.
      Look at the bolt, if the F is underlined it means it was manufactured by an FN subcontractor not actually FNMI. Pretty neat, at first I was like wtf, but I don't think FNMI actually makes bolts. The underlined F is only ever on the bolt, and it just means they approved of it and it went through the mandatory 45 round test for the military.
      Also I'm pretty sure those BCG's are from the M16A2 days, I bought a A2 stock kit from shark arms and the stock was an unissued M16A2 stock not the M16A4 (button on trapdoor has a bigger notch on M16A4). Also pretty neat

    I never thought I would have as many BCG's as I do. I am old school and I have three AR15 BCG's, two Colts and a Bushmaster, I have never had any issues with any of them. The new ones.. A BCM, Odin Works, Noveske(Rubber City), PSA in Nitride and Nickel Boron, Spikes, and BDU(White Industries). I really don't have a desire to spend a bunch of money on one. The Odin Works and Noveske in Nitride are super slick. The BCM and Spikes are phosphate, the BDU and PSA Nitride are slick, but nowhere near the Odin Works and Noveske. I just received the PSA nickel boron in their deal with 10 Pmags. That is going into my 300 upper build. I'd say the most I've spent on a BCG is $189 for the BCM, $180 for the Noveske during the peak of the covid/election parts scarcity. I don't think I have spent more than $120 for any of the rest, with the PSA and BDU being the cheapest being well under $100. The Odin Works was $99. I feel that if I have any issues with any of them, they would be taken care of by those reputable companies. Even the CMMG ones I have for their 22lr uppers and the CMMG 22lr retro fit kit for any AR 15.
    Watching the School of the American Rifle has been very useful in watching him do autopsies on different BCG's and testing their pass/fail with his go and no go gauges.

      With properly staked gas key bolts,it really serves no real purpose. You domt hear about broken bcg's. The bolt is the part that needs to be solid and by far the HM defense HMB battle bolt is by far the best on the market. 4 years since it was first designed and they havent had not even one come back broken yet. Not even in military testing.

    • @joesapienza8121
      @joesapienza8121 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@FreedomInc ... That's your opinion. Having served 34 years as a United States Marine and having put tens of thousands of rounds through the M-16 / M-4 platforms , I've seen plenty of bolts fail. POF has a bolt with an excess of a million rounds of high pressure ammunition through it and it still chugs away like it's brand spanking new. Staked keys can still loosen , regardless of how well they were done. POF submitted their BCG to the military as well and it exceeded their endurance testing ten fold but was not adopted for one simple reason , price. Anyone knowing how military contracts work , should also know that while the part, weapon , ect. must meet certain criteria, price plays a very big part on purchasing as well. I'll stick with my POF any day of the week. Perfection doesn't come cheap.

    Shot peening is used on many fancy engine parts as well. It essentially hardens the outer layer of the steel, making it wear less. Although the coating on the bolt will still wear at the same rate whether shot peened or not

    • @johnritchie4801
      @johnritchie4801 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No shot peening is not done to harden the outer surface, that is what processes such as Nitriding and case hardening are for.
      Shot peening induces a Compressive stress in the surface layer of the part which increases the fatigue resistance of the component. Fatigue cracks propagate as a result of a Tensile stress. Thus if the surface is in compression this compressive stress has to first be overcome by any applied tensile load before a Net tensile stress is realized in the component and this is why the fatigue resistance is improved.

    Ive ran that palmetto for maybe 500 rounds. Did great. Until I put a binary in mine. I figured out it was pretty easy to Fump Bire if I held the trigger on the break. It didn't take maybe 3-4 mags and the "staked" gas key came loose and went into single action. I put it back together best I could and locked the bolts every way I could come up with. It works for now. For $5 you can get that BCM extractor o-ring kit to pretty much make it last forever. I have a $240ish bolt in the mail right now so I have one Id trust more. I have an OG Spikes Tactical Nickel Boron BCG from early 2010 when NIB was newer on the market and they were the only ones who had NIB besides FailZero. There are tool marks still all over it but out of 9,000 rounds (getting close to 10k) I have only recorded 3 jams that we’re not due to a bad magazine or me. I polished it with mother’s mag aluminum polish to shine it back up.

    The one in my PSA has been chooching for two years now... probably for a guessimated 3,000+ rounds with no issues and the gas rings still hold it up when the bolt is stood on end. I don't know how much better a fancy-pants bcg is but my ignorance hasn't been problematic thus far.

    What I like was that you said this one is great and that one I use and like a lot. BUT you kept returning to the Sharps Rifle Company Bolt Carrier Group (4 times) and how good it is. "Guys its exceptional made from S7 tool steel " The SRC Bolt is all I have ever run. And they keep on running.

    I bought the Big daddy unlimited blue bcg for my 300aac build...i have a superlative arms adjustable gas block and I've put at least 200 rounds thru it amd theres a very very very small amount of color wear on the bcg blue coating...I loved it so much I ordered the bdu chameleon colored bcg for $81 camt beat those prices

    Should have the BCG autopsy done like on Instructor Chad’s TH-cam channel. That is what you call a detailed inspection of the BCG’s specs.

      I've been running Aero Precision m4e1 and M5 bcg for a couple of years now both are still running strong and are reliable I've run the M4e1 hard and so far no problems on either bcg!!! Also run a BCM bcg. over 5K rounds still running strong!
      I've had one milspec bcg fail on me in the Army, it broke lug on bolt. Other than that, maintaining the bcg/rifle is the key, and always have a spare repair parts kit in your range bag. ie: springs, pins, spare bolt, etc....

    Plain & simple
    All carriers do the same job
    1 A lighter one saves weight "quicker cycle"
    2 a cut out is designed to avoid tilt " cycles planes straight"
    3 Nickel boron coated " easier to clean" cycles easier.
    Winner "Toolcraft" Nib coated doesn't require much lubricant to stay in the battle longer is Mil- spec ..... If it's shot Pen it's been tested to withstand high pressure.
    All metals begin to degrade after 60,000 to 100,000.00 rds.
    Simplicity. ..........
    Cost doesn't determine quality.

    I buy the ones PSA sells for 99 or ide go with POF as they make the BEST PERIOD, but the micro best ones are top regular bolts and the PSA 79-99 dollar ones are great. POF makes the only firearm I would buy that needs NOTHING to be duty war ready.

    Smith Enterprises makes the absolute best Chrome Plated Bolt / BCG. They do not stake the gas key because they say it's not needed . DD , and Spikes make good chrome plated ones as well .
    Me personally I'm not a fan of Nickel Boron . I do have LWRCI Keyless BCG . It obviously cane with my M6 IC DI. It's very nice . I do believe NP3 is superior .
    I wish SRC didn't go under . Those Bolts were on par with LMT Enhanced Bolt..
    I will agree that BCM is probably the Gold Standard these days for M16 Bolt/BCG..
    Yeah I'm gonna be no good for that bracketing thing . I'm way too bias that's a fact jack..
