Celtic tribes in England were almost wiped out by Romans and vikings, killed or sold into slavery. Many English Celts escaped to Wales, Scotland or Ireland. But since Scots. Christianity took over in England as they were faced with a believe or be killed. There we saw the Celts disappear from England. I’m mostly Welsh and I hold my Celtic and pagan heritage close to my heart.
He might be soon. At the moment he is doing an online masters at University College Cork in Ancient Irish Literature. I think this could mean he is learning for books
I could see Magnus being tied to Celtic mythology sence the celts and nordic tribes have fought alot but I'd see Roman and Celtic mythology demigods together in a story sence diana the roman goddess of war was originally a Celtic goddess of war till the Roman's adopted her into there culture
And I'm actually really badly wanting this to sence I'm part of the Kennedy clan one of the high royal clans of ancient and present irelan and Scotland
You wait no more! Rick has announced recently he’s studying Irish mythology in an online college and will eventually write a book based on celtic stories.
Love these types of educational videos, especially with mythology, but if there's one thing I have to add is that when doing more for the future please research and properly find out how to pronounce the names Loved the spreading of my countries routes along with the other Celtic regions besides Ireland (some where still left out), but the pronunciation of the names was a lil sour note in my opinion, I don't speak for all but I rather not have others becoming interested in the mythology thinking that's how they are pronounce, and better yet that how we speak Great video though! Keep it up!
@@Sourcherryxox I often ask why most whom beleive in Christian god 2018 fail to grasp even there own religion. Eh Never said I was happy not that I cared as much just that I'm glad christianity did not kill its history. It making a comeback is just nice to see the human fire is strong as ever religion though to each there own no reason for me to judge them for it. Unless involves raping, genocide, etc then have a issue with it
@@ZevielS I'm actually interested, I've seen people (on the internet) worship Freya and Odin. Do you they do it in their own way or the old fashioned way? Edit: Fudge. They do it*
Thanks it was very interesting video. Really liked it. Were there same gods and goddesses for Britannia people, celtic people who lived in England prior to Anglo-Saxonian take over? If possible plz post video about Iranian mythology too. Ahuramazda, Ahriman, Amshaspandan, Azar, Mitra, Anahita, Zurvan etc.
Thank you, this is a great summary! I have a special affinity with Rhiannon; would you consider doing a video about her? I'm interested in her affinity with Athena
Nice video :) I’m quite impressed by the expectations for a “free to watch content” on TH-cam ...just wondering what would be the reaction for a show on the history channel. I respect the different legitimate opinions and “corrections/suggestions/complaints”...I just don’t quite get the hate over a simple video. Ps: do somebody have some good books or websites to suggest in order to learn more about Celtic mythology and folklore ? Thx :)
I love mythology and legends I watched all of you videos. My favorite one was Brigid. Love your videos love you top10arcives. Can't wait for your next video😁😄❤❤❤
As a irishman the way you pronounce everything is like metaphorical bullets to me bloody ears haha best irish myth by far no questions about it is cu cuileann
Great to see a spotlight on Scottish folklore! If anyone is interested I've got a few pieces of music based around folklore for Halloween that I would love feedback on. Cheers!
Medb is pronounced Mayvve. My favorite god is Angus Og. I think mixing Welsh and Irish confuses people not already familiar with these guys. And your pronunciation s are....unique?
Wasn’t Medb also one of the sisters of the Morrigan? I feel like he messed by having the Morrigan as one of the sisters when the Morrigan is the three sisters as one being.

Thanks for the video, I´m from Costa Rica and it´s difficult to find this kind of information. But, I´m interested in Arduinna Goddess. I don´t have enough information about her.
Things rarely change in history or mythology. Waaay back then they had their battles of MA Twitter, and still today we have battles on twitter. Fascinating 👀
I will point out that despite all the mention to Ireland in this vid, Irish aren't the only celts in the the world. Scotland, wales, Cornwall, Brittany and the Isle of Man are all Celtic nations
I have a statue of danu one of the triple goddess 😂. I believe in the fertility she brings because my weed plants would harvest fat nugs the size of pringle cans. Lol I love Celtic mythology and it is soo under rated.
As a Welshman you've concentrated far too much on Irish and not the other Celtic areas, you've forgotten about Scotland and Cornwall, please forgive me bur you REALLY need to work on your pronounceation my friend

This was very impressive-- especially to those of us who follow paths of Celtic spirituality. I would have wished you would have metioned Midhir, Lord of Justice, whom tbe world so desperately needs right now. Thank you for being respectful, and not treating our Dieties lightly or dismissively, or our sacred texts as "myths and legends of old pagan times". Judged by the same criteria, the Old Testament is a collection of rabbinical fairy tales, and Jesus is about as real as Lugh Lamhfada.
Áine is not pronounced "Awna" it's pronounced "Onya" like Sonia without the S. The accent (called a fada or more correctly a síneadh fada) over the A changes it from an A sound to an O sound.
This is a great video although it annoyed me that he said that Brân’s name isn’t very impressive when his name is actually short for Bendigeidfran (I’m welsh) which ✨I personally ✨ think is an impressive name 😂😂😂 but never mind lol
But that just means 'Bran the Blessed', Brân itself, means 'raven'. Ones missing from the list include, Gofannon, the smith and Mannanan Mac Lir the sea god, and the continentally attested gods: Taranis, the thunderer, Belenus and Cernunnos, the antlered god, who bears the torc and the ram-headed serpent.
It’s always confused me about the differences in the Irish and Scottish myth. They’re both Celtic nations but when I try finding specific connections to Scotland the most I find are creatures or giants, never Gods. Am I being stupid or does Scotland have a connection to or it’s own pantheon?
Yes .. the "#Scots" [originally known as the Dal Riada, but called "Scotti" by the Roman Invaders] were immigrants from Ireland to the Western Shores of what would later be called #Scotland roughly about 1600 years ago .. The Dal Riada may have been in #Alba/Caledonia [the original [or rather the only known] name for Scotland north of the Forth and Clyde] earlier than 350 AD, but I have been unable to locate any written evidence .. The #Scottish Dalriada were mostly confined to the western coast, around Arran, Jura, Islay, Mull, the other smaller islands, and Argyll and Bute on the mainland, with their capitol at Dunadd, until about 600 AD .. They fought against [and eventually interbred/intermarried with] the #Picts, to the North, East and East-Southeast, and the Britons/#Welsh [#Cymru, #Cumbrians, Hen Ogledd, Rheged, Strathclyde, Gododdin, Berenice, Ebrauc [York] and Pennines] to the South and Southeast, basically north of the Humber River, along with the Viking Invaders on the Northern and Western Isles [#Hebrides and #Orkneys], and their Pantheon morphed into a mix of something that was/is moderately different than the Irish .. until the 10th Century AD, "Scotia" originally referred to what is now called Ireland and #Scotland didn't actually get called "Scotland" until sometime in the 11th Century AD - probably by the German-English Invaders from London and Saxe-Coburg, about 200 years after the Pictish Kingdom [generally called Alba and/or #Caledonia by the Romans, between 45 AD and 450AD] had been destroyed and the land of the Picts fell under the control of the #Scots [in 843 AD - although, as I said, the "King Of The Scots" wasn't actually called the "King Of The Scots" for another 200 years], after the #Pictish line of Kings [a matrilineal line of succession and possibly a #Tanistry line of succession [survival of the fittest] .. ] was all but wiped out by the Vikings -- and what was left of the #Picts were forced to join/side with the #Scots, in the form of the Scottish/Pictish "half-breed": Kenneth #MacAlpin, First "King Of The Scots" [but was, actually, the third from the last official "King Of The Picts" -- excluding, of course. the real #Macbeth, 200 years later, who was of Pictish/Scottish descent [although, technically, all being the sons/brothers/nephews of the previous King, all of Scotland's Kings were Scottish/Pictish -- at least until they were illegitimately replaced by the German Georges, the German Victoria and the German "house of Windsor" Saxe-Coburgs] .. #Macbeth [not the Shakespeare fiction] was the last Tanistry-based King Of Scots, hailing from the former Pictish Stronghold of #Moray, north and east of #Inversnecky] -- #Macbeth EARNED his RIGHT to be King -- in 20 years of Battles against the Norwegians invading from the #Orkneys [and also probably the #Hebrides], and in rightful battle against the Traitorous, pro-English, terrible-at-leading, failure of a King, #Duncan [trust me: I'm directly descended from Duncan, through his son, #Malcolm [III] Ceann Mor, my 28th Great-Grandfather, through his son, #KingDavid I, through David's son, #Henry, through Henry's son, #David of #Huntingdon [the real-life inspiration for #RobinHood], through his daughter, #Isobel, through her son, #RobertBruce, 5th Lord #Annandale, through his son #RobertBruce 6th Lord #Annandale, and through his daughter, #KingRobertTheBruce's sister, #Matilda, my 21st Great-Grandmother] .. so Scotland's Gods are [mostly] a mix of #Irish [#TuathaDeDanann], #Welsh [#Mabinogion], #Brythonic [similar to Welsh], #Pictish [who we know absolutely nothing about, but were also probably similar to Welsh] and the #Viking/#Nordic/#GallGhàidheil #HighlandsAndIslands Gods, many of them, undoubtedly, renamed/reidentified into #Gaelic-Scottish equivalents .. ~ #Bradh #Macbradh, the bastard of Macbeth, #Scotland's first True and Rightful #KingOfTheScots in 305 years ~ .. #WilliamWallace, #RobinHood, #TwmSionCati, #Arthur, #Merlin, #Cernunnos, #Lugh and #HuGadarn rolled into one ..
Scottish are pics and Scotland was called picland the Irish brang Gaeilge Gaelic to Scotland and Isle of man the Gaels many bear Irish surnames Irish were first on Iceland too before vikings.

Cernunnos has many names even herny is believed to be the same. In fact the church of Christianity based Satan's appearence of cernunnos as a way to try and denounce him as a deity.
im on a hunt to find the incarnation of thoth in other religions and cultures, through reincarnation he has made himself known throughout many mythologies, Mercury, Hermes are 2 possible incarnation and Enoch is a possible other, he's usually a god/person of wisdom, maybe he incarnated as a female in the Celtic mythology not positive its just research and theories but if we match up these gods and put all religions and mythologies and beliefs together into one massive puzzle we may get more answers.
All of these gods and goddesses and you forgot the goddess Rhiannon who was in both celtic and gaelic mythology ( she was the queen of fairys who was well known for falling in love with mortal men) .
The thing about celtic mythic names is (someone told me) that you can get the right pronunciation of the names in one part of the country but you can butcher it in the other. Is this accurate?

@Chris Wings It the celtic gods, its a game call god of war and this guy goes and kills all the greek gods, and now hes finishing off the Norse gods and then celtic then Egyptian gods
@Chris Wings It atreus is basically loki from thor but in this videogame hes the son of Zeus's son, kratos. The god of war whos objective is to kill all gods and everything that stands in his way in a very brutal way
Some of these gods from Celtic and Irish Mythology were turned from gods to just mere mortal humans when Christianity was introduced to parts of Europe where Celtic is.
Loved the video and quality of research, gave it a like, but it is nearly ruined by the disastrous pronunciation of celtic names which just needed a bit more research.

Christianity took over in England as they were faced with a believe or be killed. There we saw the Celts disappear from England.

I have a lot of respect for you but your pronunciation of Celtic names is frankly painful to listen to
Absolutely cringed at the way he said Tuatha Dé Danann
You can't expect him to say it right because those names are foreign for him. I'm sure you can't pronounce foreign names either.
@@Sourcherryxox Except there are plenty of resources online that will give you the pronunciations. In all three major Irish dialects, at that.
@@meadowsweet5507 Right but it's still hard and u cant say those names perfectly using only online resources.
Áine is not pronounced Awna and several others you mis-read also, just saying for future reference, no hate! I like the video. 🙂

Loved the spreading of my countries routes along with the other Celtic regions besides Ireland (some where still left out), but the pronunciation of the names was a lil sour note in my opinion, I don't speak for all but I rather not have others becoming interested in the mythology thinking that's how they are pronounce, and better yet that how we speak
Great video though!
Keep it up!
Deities from Celtic mythology and Nordic mythology are the best!
jonn mace yep and thankfully the early Christian church failed to kill off the Norse god worshipers which is making a slow comeback
I'm the best.
The true gods
They do it*
The battle of mah Twitter.....love it
The deity I mainly worship is Cernunnos. God of wild places, harmony, nature, and taming both prey and predator. I love him and want to honor him.
Good video my friend. I'm surprised Balor the Fomorian one eyed leader wasn't on the list. But great stuff.
love your channel always watch your videos but man your pronunciation is just painful ( im irish btw)
You should do a channel of your own. I'd watch I love Irish Mythology
It could be the Scottish pronunciation

I'm Irish too, born and bred and living here all my life
My Irish great aunt Margaret told me of the three sisters, Bahb, Nemain, And Macha, collectively known as The Morrigan or The Battle Crow.
I have ancestors who worshipped these gods... Awesome, also some not as cool ones who believes spirits inhabited objects.
Nice video :)
I’m quite impressed by the expectations for a “free to watch content” on TH-cam ...just wondering what would be the reaction for a show on the history channel. I respect the different legitimate opinions and “corrections/suggestions/complaints”...I just don’t quite get the hate over a simple video.
Ps: do somebody have some good books or websites to suggest in order to learn more about Celtic mythology and folklore ? Thx :)
I have Celtic blood, and I love learning about this stuff .
Same
I love mythology and legends I watched all of you videos. My favorite one was Brigid. Love your videos love you top10arcives. Can't wait for your next video😁😄❤❤❤
As a irishman the way you pronounce everything is like metaphorical bullets to me bloody ears haha best irish myth by far no questions about it is cu cuileann

Due to writing a book on Celtic folklore/mythology, I got really excited when Lugh popped up because he's a big figure in the book
Get a job
Excellent Job Jim, Enjoyed! 👍👍💯
Proud to be Irish ☘️ 🇮🇪
Great video would love to see a top ten of the weapons from this myth like gea boe the spear
Brigid and Morrigan are my favorites
Ya
There pretty
I was really hoping to learn more about Artio or Artaois, but this was still good
Great to see a spotlight on Scottish folklore! If anyone is interested I've got a few pieces of music based around folklore for Halloween that I would love feedback on. Cheers!
1) most of those are Irish and welsh (2) Halloween is also Irish
Sad Nuada of the Silver-Hand wasn't on the list. Still though, great video. Instant like.
Well done and great video
Depending on the source Morrigan, Morrigu, or rather The Three Morigna is said to be three sisters named Badb, Macha and Anu🤔 that's what I found🤷♂️
I'm from Wales. 🏴
I was expecting to see Cernunnos and Chernobog but I was wrong.
Great vids though, nice to know these Gods and Goddesses
This guys voice is so shooving and calm
Medb is pronounced Mayvve. My favorite god is Angus Og. I think mixing Welsh and Irish confuses people not already familiar with these guys. And your pronunciation s are....unique?
Atticus O Sullivan disliked you
Wasn’t Medb also one of the sisters of the Morrigan? I feel like he messed by having the Morrigan as one of the sisters when the Morrigan is the three sisters as one being.
As a half Irish half American so I enjoyed this
Your voice is great.
The morrigon became one phantom queen
You should do a video on which mytholgy is stronger between greek, Celtic, Egyptian, and norse

He did mention those other Celtic nations early in the video.
He mentioned that idiot

You pronounced all the Welsh place names wrong and I’m from Wales 🏴
To be fair, it's extremely difficult for non-Welsh people, such as myself, to pronounce Welsh from the written word alone
Actually Welsh pronunciations are quite easy as it's phonetic. The only difficulty is when you get to the ll, ch, dd sounds 😂
Fook Wales
Aine is pronounced Awn-ye, Medbh is pronounced Mave, Concobhar is pronounced Connor

Very intresting!!
The picts and celtic gods are the scottish pantheon before romans made us christian's.
Yes .. the "#Scots" [originally known as the Dal Riada, but called "Scotti" by the Roman Invaders] were immigrants from Ireland to the Western Shores of what would later be called #Scotland roughly about 1600 years ago ..

Aine is pronounced on-ya
you didn't mention cernunnos
Perry Moore dagda
what Dagda
Cernunnos dagda the green man the horned god. All the same deity
Cernunnos has many names even herny is believed to be the same. In fact the church of Christianity based Satan's appearence of cernunnos as a way to try and denounce him as a deity.
Cernunnos is Gaulish not Irish or british
im on a hunt to find the incarnation of thoth in other religions and cultures, through reincarnation he has made himself known throughout many mythologies, Mercury, Hermes are 2 possible incarnation and Enoch is a possible other, he's usually a god/person of wisdom, maybe he incarnated as a female in the Celtic mythology not positive its just research and theories but if we match up these gods and put all religions and mythologies and beliefs together into one massive puzzle we may get more answers.
time frames and population count would make this video much more valuable...king of 10 people in 500 ad
All of these gods and goddesses and you forgot the goddess Rhiannon who was in both celtic and gaelic mythology ( she was the queen of fairys who was well known for falling in love with mortal men) .
and Taranis the gaelic god of storm war and sky
The thing about celtic mythic names is (someone told me) that you can get the right pronunciation of the names in one part of the country but you can butcher it in the other.
Is this accurate?
Thank you. I am interested in the magickal practices of the Scots.

@Chris Wings It the celtic gods, its a game call god of war and this guy goes and kills all the greek gods, and now hes finishing off the Norse gods and then celtic then Egyptian gods

Some of these gods from Celtic and Irish Mythology were turned from gods to just mere mortal humans when Christianity was introduced to parts of Europe where Celtic is.
