😂😂😂 I saw you post this on Twitter and I was like, “games you hate?? I have ALOT to say about that!!” Imagine my shock and suprise to see that it’s a tribute video to me! LOL, I’m so glad that you like the shirt!! What an amazing video!!
The best thing about your channel is your maturity. That’s not a euphemism for “old”, I’m 48. You are comfortable in your own skin and you know who you are, so your opinions are genuinely your own. I feel like now that video games as a lifestyle are sort of en vogue, you get a lot of content creators parroting what they perceive to be “right thinking” on various games and franchises. Your channel is the straight dope, at least as you see it, and I appreciate it.
I'm currently playing through Breath of the Wild for the first time and it's very much a love/hate experience. I have to play with a guide open because I hate puzzles, don't have the patience for them, and it's like everything's a friggin' puzzle in this game. And I hate how equipment is constantly breaking. And I hate how it rains every time I want to climb a mountain. But there's lots to love about it, too, and so I will see it through to the end.
I'm in the exact same place. It's supposed to be pretty hard. The constant breaking of weapons is just dumb, but the exploration part I love and it's a beautiful game.
@@RealJeffTidwelllol, NO. What BotW has is NOT puzzles. It does have some mild speed bumps that suggest that you slow down to 35MPH for the school zone. 😂 But they ain't puzzles! Go play and FINISH any mainline Zelda title prior to BotW/TotK. Then get back to me.
I feel the same about Legends Arceus, and modern Pokemon games in general. The gen 7 games were the last ones I actually enjoyed, and now that you mention it, the unique region it was set in definitely played a role. And strangely I find myself missing random encounters. Having all the Pokemon visibly roam the world killed the element of surprise that I never even realized was there until it was gone. I guess the games just aren't for me anymore.
I don't really HATE any game. Obviously I like some more than others, and there are entire genres that I don't care for, but if a game isn't for me, that's fine. One series that does consistently frustrate me, because I WANT to love it, is SaGa. Between the random growth of the Spark system, and the way it actively punishes you for grinding, I always get soft-locked; have never finished a SaGa style game, despite first being exposed to them around 1998, and trying several of them.
I didn’t care for Horizon Zero Dawn. It had some cool gameplay and physics/mechanics, but it was waaaaay to long in telling its story. Too many fetch quests too. I need 5 pieces of trash, go get it. Yarf.
Borderlands, was my realization that I can’t stand shoot n loot games. Langrisser 1&2, was my realization that I don’t have the patience for strategy games. I see your reasoning for each game on your list and I found your points interesting especially about Pokémon Sword & Shield lol Ash Ketchum goes to Britain in Pokémon Scotland & Wales.
Eh, you probably don't like looters shooters or strategy games, BUT as someone who REGULARLY eats my words on games because I'm too quick to judge because I've played way too many games for way too long, don't dismiss entire genres over two games. There are a lot of different styles of both of those genres. There's a slim chance that you find a gem amongst them. Borderlands isn't bad, but Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is superior in my opinion. The game just flows better and has some real improvements to the formula that just lets it flow better. As for Langrisser, that is an OLD game; like early 90s old. No shiny coat of paint or small QoL improvements will change that. The game is a product of its time. Even for me, as someone who played the American version Warsong as a teenager, it's dated. It was revolutionary for its time, but it definitely shows its age. Even more so than with Borderlands, definitely don't dismiss strategy games because of Langrisser.
@@Xoulrath_ You are right, but with how many games there is, cutting out some genres that does not seems to excite you, can be quite nice :) I had to cut out point-and-click and strategy. But it means I have more time for RPG and action games ;)
I really enjoy the Trails series, I'm currently playing through the 8th game in it for me. I think that if you didn't enjoy Cold Steel I, the others may not be for you either. It's true that that one is probably one of the slower entries but even in the more faster paced ones, in my opinion what's best about those games is the attention to detail and how every NPC dialogue and side quest is always intriguing to me. That's why I think that if that type of storytelling wasn't enjoyable for you in Cold Steel I, it probably won't be in the other entries either. CS2 has pretty different setting from the first game but to me the pacing is still largely very slow, even a lot slower than in the first game if you play like me and talk to all the NPCs and do all optional content at least. If you still feel like giving another shot to the Trails series I think maybe Trails from Zero is the easiest to get into of the first-in-the-arc games although Trails in the Sky FC is the most charming one to me personally!
Bravely Default on the 3DS, it’s one of the best looking games on the 3DS with great music and a decent story but the difficulty spike is so vast towards the end that the game was becoming unplayable for me, dropping the difficulty to easy had little to no effect, i had to look up guides online which I hate doing, I just wanted it to be over and I hate that I hate this game but I was just so unnecessary and has made me doubt if I will ever play another entry in the series 😞🏴
I loved Bravely Default on the 3DS, but yeah the difficulty spike meant I didn’t finish. I did still buy Bravely Second and Bravely Default 2. Not started the latter yet.
I can kinda get the difficulty but what made me kinda avoid the game is that I knew that after a certain point on the story the events repeat themselves over and over and I think it added with the difficulty is kinda aggravating. It is similar to Metal Gear V Phantom Pain in this regard. The first half of the game is awesome, but since it was clearly rushed after some point in development and they needed the game to be longer, they demand you to repeat the same missions again in a different difficulty setting to advance. If the difficulty switch was OPTIONAL, I would like it more and even be tempted to try but it is REQUIRED. I love Bayonetta and I can accept it fine that it lasts about 15 hours on the difficulty setting you choose and since I improved at the game and loved it, I play again on other difficulty settings and have a blast as well, if the game was forcing me to play on Normal and play the same events again on Hard and Infinite Climax to progress I would loathe it.
If you have a pc, I'd strongly recommend the Trails in the Sky games. Cold steel often puts off first timers; especially considering it's the sixth game in the series.
I LOVE Sky and the entire Trails series, but her problem with Cold Steel is that it was very slow. Sky is even slower, not sure why you would think she would like it more than Cold Steel. haha
As some people are saying here, give Trails from The Sky a try. You will probably still find it slow paced but there is some possibility that the charm of Stelle and the story gets to hook you, it did with me.
I get what you are saying. I personally loved Pokemon Arceus, but like you absolutely hated that I had to catch several of the same Pokemon to complete its Pokédex file. It felt more like "gotta catch 12 of each" rather than "gotta catch'em all". My personal most hated game of 2023 was Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life. I quit after 35 hours or pure boredom. I'll never get them back and regret buying this game. It was so boring and slow and felt like the movie Groundhog Day without Bill Murray.
Based on the reviews that I've seen, it's a 20ish hour game, with like 80 hours of movies lol. The combat is cool, based on what I played of it from the demo. But I'll definitely be waiting for this one on a massive sale.
You should do more videos like this. You had me laughing the way you sounded talking about some of these games. I also completely agree with your take on Legends Arceus. I couldn't stand to play it for more than 5 hours. Just a boring Pokeball throwing simulator. I also have been disappointed by all the new Pokemon releases which is such a shame because I got into gaming at the height of Pokemania in the late 90s. Make Pokemon great again! Lol.
I loved Torna my gripe with it was that it was too short. The combat system was superb! However, I can see why some people may not like it, it is different from Chronicles 2.
I feel the thing to remember is not every game is for everyone and to respect that. Here’s my list: Final Fantasy VII: Remake, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Harvest Moon: Light of Hope (I didn’t know about the name change to Story of Seasons) Tomb Raider: the Angel of Darkness and Harvestella
I have a love hate relationship with the Pokémon series. I liked some aspects of Sun and Moon. Sword and shield was pretty boring. The atmosphere is so uninspired even if they say it is inspired. No story at all. AT ALL! It’s like they leave the entire story in the tv show and movies. No body got time for all that Earthbound is awesome. Period.
You have no idea how refreshing it was for me to see Legends Arceus on here. Lol, it's got to be hands down the most boring and repetitive open world adventure I've ever played. I couldn't even finish it. Easily one of the most overrated Pokémon games, and I genuinely don't understand what people see in it. That being said, almost every Pokémon game released on Switch was unfortunately pretty terrible. The only good ones were PMD: Rescue Team DX and New Pokémon Snap, and those are spin-offs. Lol, those are the two Pokémon games on Switch that legitimately had any form of love put into them.
When it comes to Doki Doki. How many run throughs did you do? the story gets pretty deep towards the end when your messing with the computer files etc.
If you HATED Cold Steel 1 you shouldn’t play 2. It really is more of the same overall. I LOVE all of the Legend of Heroes games, but, I don’t understand when anyone says you don’t need to play them all in order. In my opinion they all definitely should be played in order. The events in the two Crossbell games (Zero and Azure) and the first two Cold Steel games happen at the same time and knowing what is happening in Crossbell definitely enhanced the experience when playing Cold Steel 1 & 2. And playing the Sky arc enhances the experience of playing Azure. If it’s not something you enjoy don’t force it. Like you always say, games should be fun. There are so many other games out there. Don’t spend time on something you don’t like. Love your videos!
"Good, good. Let the hate flow through you" - Emporer Palpatine. I loved this of you hating on games and hearing you complain about them xD I also loved one of Davidvinc's videos where he did the same. You've got good points and not everyone likes everything. We all have our different tastes. I hated Transistor (from the same devs as Hades) because of the narrative and gameplay. I couldn't get into it and was uninterested despite wanting to like the game. I also hated Fallout 4 even though I really liked 1, 2, 3 and New Vegas. In Fallout 4, I hated the narrative and boring exploration and loot and shoot.
I love the xenoblade chronicles series too but I did not love the dlc for xenoblade 2 either. To me, it was a game to play side quests and I’m not a fan of side quests! 😄
big agree on legends arceus. it takes out the parts i love most about pokemon and replaces it with tedium. i still enjoyed it to an extent but i was surprised so many people praised it
While I didn't hate Torna, I will admit that the whole community thing did suck a LOT of the goodwill I felt for it completely out of the experience. So, the thing about Trails - basically EVERY arc of the story is set up the same way, where the first game is ALL world- and character-building. There is not a strong plot present until the very end, which is just to set up the next game in the arc. For that reason, I tend to think of each arc as "a game" in and of itself -- just a really long game. Personally, I'm a fan of the style of getting the character development and relationship building done ahead of the big plot, but that style is definitely not going to be for everyone. So I think a lot of the things you disliked about Cold Steel 1 are going to be present throughout a decent chunk of the series. So while you might like Trails of Cold Steel 2 more than 1 (because that's where the plot really kicks in), it's probably not a series that you're going to have fun investing in.
About Trails of Cold Steel part 1: I've completed the game once on the PS3, and I just loved all the character development going on, the lore (history and technology of that world), etc. -- Part 2 continues where the first part ended and introduces several new things. I had only begun playing it for several hours on the PS3 (I can't remember why I stopped playing it). -- Now, on the PS4 (after finding out that it wasn't possible to import the save games from the PS3 which weren't on the server anymore anyway for some reason), I began replaying Part 1 on the PS4. But now, the game struck me as boring too. I guess it's because I had played so many games in the meantime, and Part 1 just looks very dated nowadays. On the PS3, I did enjoy every single battle, but on the PS4, I just wished for an autobattle function so I could automate the grinding (I guess I played too many Tales of games and Disgaea 6 :D ). Perhaps it's because I don't have as much spare time as I used to, and playing these kinds of games takes up a lot of time. Recently, I continued playing Tales of Berseria, which had sporadical save games over a span of 7 years. But now I'm hooked for some reason, and yes, I'm using autobattle so I can enjoy the story and take in the sceneries. Playing Tales of Graces f back in the day in manual/half-automatic mode most of the time wrecked my PS3 controller so I had to get a new one. :D I don't want that to happen on the PS4. :D -- I wish I could have the time and muse to finish all of the 4 parts of Trails of Cold Steel, since I still think it's pretty awesome and I want to see all the things taking place in the story, like in politics, society and technology, and also the personal development of the characters.
"Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna The Golden Country" my mind: *audience applause* that KILLED this game for me b/c they did it TWICE, about locking your game progression until you beat certain sidequests, whyyyyy, and then I see people call this the best Xenoblade and again...whyyyyy the combat is great for sure, but requiring me to do needless busywork just to actually progress, nah I'm checking out
Torna requires for your improving skills and complete a specific side quest to complete in order to progress. Thank god Future Redeemed being the best DLC ever.
Bold move to say the least but yeah not everyone likes the same things and that's fine. Like at the moment I'm struggling to get through Persona 5 Royal and 4 Golden, the games aren't bad by any means but the pacing is doing my head in. I'm willing to give them one more go, and for those wondering I've played 80hrs of P5 and 30hrs of P4. Now I consider myself a reasonable person and though I might not like a game I'm willing to give it credit on it's good points; only one game I've played has had me seething. Agarest: Generations of War Zero is a mess: Grindy, One Note charicters, drawn out fights, HP sponge's, difficulty spikes a plenty, half baked dating sim elements and story cutscenes locked by a beating bosses under an unseen time limit. This game almost made me never pick up JRPG's again.
I've got 100+ hours in P5R and still haven't beaten it. I put it on the back burner and it's been there for years lol. I'll eventually get back to it, but I just had to stop. As you mention, the pacing is NOT good. Spending a couple of hours in a beautifully constructed dungeon is amazing. Then you get hit or miss boss fights. Then you have to deal with 30 minutes of school drama. I mean, there were times where I may as well have been watching a show. Not a fan of that. Great game otherwise.
The trails games are not for everyone, I enjoy them a lot but I understand that they can be a bit drawn out. You absolutely have to be in the correct mood
My personal lowest score I've given a game that people love is Metroid Prime Remastered. I absolutely loved the beginning of the game, but the longer it went on I started to despise it. No sort of mission log, confusing map, no real narrative of any kind, insane amounts of backtracking and just waiting to trigger something to progress. I *hated* the game, and un-hyperbolically gave it a 1.5/10. Combat felt incredibly repetitive, the visors were annoying to use, and scanning things all the way just felt like wasted time. I remember liking Prime 3 on the Wii when that came out, so I'm not sure what has changed for me since then.
Idk if you've made a list for it yet, but I'd be interested to hear about games people hated that you liked. For me, it was Starfield that I'm playing on the ROG Ally.
Zelda is one of my favorite franchise ever but I couldn't get into BotW. I forced myself to clear 2 of the divine beasts, enough shrines to get the Master Sword and beat the final boss but after that I was done. Thankfully TotK fixed a lot of the issues I had with it and I enjoyed it much more. Two other games I hate are Tales of Xillia 2 and Tales of Zesteria. The Tales series used to be arguably my favorite game series ever. I was an obsessed with it. I was super excited for Xillia 2 after getting the platinum trophy for the first one, I even got the collector's edition but once I got to that weird debt system that gated your progress I quickly lost interest. I decided to wait for the next one, which was Tales of Zestiria and I hated almost everything about it. They made some strange decisions with the story, the combat had a ton of camera issues and the equipment and skill system felt super confusing to me. Thankfully the Zestiria anime and Tales of Berseria were better (and I hear Arise is great too) but I sadly can't get into the series as much as I used to.
The few games I hate that always come to mind are Back to the Future and Double Dragon 3 on NES, and Final Fantasy XIII. I think they're just bad and I dunk on'em all the time lol I want to say Earthbound too but it's more like I just didn't like it versus hating it. Thanks for the vid, it was fun to watch.
Side Quests are annoying whenever they trigger out of nowhere while doing the main story. I would prefer Side Quests be available as an unlockable thing after completing the main story unless if certain Side Quests are part of the main story in games. Here is a list of games that i hate' (in random order) 1. Fortnite 2. Final Fantasy 12 3. Dragonball Z Ultimate Battle 22 (Worst Dragonball game I've ever played) 4. Metal Gear Survive (Worst game Metal Gear game I've ever played) 5. Yu-gi-oh Capsule Monster coliseum 6. Tropico 5 7. Dragonball The Breakers
The first cold steel is a slog but it sets up the entire arc. It's an incredible and intricate story from here on out. Also probably would have been better to start with sky\zero over steel but I also started here.
Agree to disagree on that. Yes, the later Cold Steel games are very ambitious and exciting but the tropes, cliches, the repetition, and the *villains* really start to dig their heels. It's always been a big problem with all the Trails games but the last few cold steel games are the ones that amplify it to the max. I still support the series though and I liked Reverie a lot more. I'm looking forward to Daybreak.
Glad I’m not alone in my discontent for Pokémon games, I don’t understand how millions of people still find them fun. I’ve played every Switch title except Scarlet/Violet because I thought, “maybe this one will do it” but no, every time the novelty wore off quickly and I found myself bored beyond words when playing. I’m leaving the Pokémon series behind unless they can find a way to revolutionize their formula… which they haven’t done since the Gameboy days. I suppose to each their own, but it does frustrate me how massive this IP is in gaming when so many better series exist and they could only dream of reaching the sales numbers of a new Pokémon game. I would throw the Pokémon company in with Ubisoft and Activision as an indication of what’s wrong with the industry. They can do better and we know it.
I’m currently going through Final Fantasy 15 and am finding it to be a total slog. I watched the prequel film and found it engaging, but the game itself is a drag. I also am struggling with the Trails series. I’m working through Trails in the Sky SC on Steamdeck and both it and the first one are very slow. I can only play them for a hour or two at a time because it’s so unengaging. Good story, but boring gameplay.
Finally got around to playing Elden Ring and have decided I hate Souls-like games. Not having a good time with it. The difficulty is off the charts and it feels like you need to grind to upgrade the character. Despite my hatred for it I can’t stop playing it.
Love your videos. This one is no exception. You really pointed out some things that I agree with. Out of curiosity, what did you think of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. To me, these are my favorite Switch Pokemon games. Yes, they’re remakes, but they capture (pun intended) everything Pokemon should be all about. Old-school, top down view, whimsical joy. But I would love your thoughts.
Hey Paige, thanks for the list :) for my part on game that come in my mind when I think about games I hated, is Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, I beat it, but I did not like the story and the fact that often, well most of the time your teams is seperated.
I also hated Doki Doki Literature Club. Over time I’ve come to appreciate the fact that it tried to say something and have interesting ideas, but it was the most miserable experience of my f***ing life and felt like being slapped with a cactus. A game you didn’t mention is Final Fantasy 8. I wanna try to learn the mechanics but every aspect of the game design baffles me to no end.
a few games that I hated? Crymachina, because it was basically a tea party simulator coupled with going through the same dungeon over and over and bad action RPG combat. I also despised Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, the game looked gorgeous but it felt so clunky and its 80% cutscenes. Better off just watching the anime in that case.
@@femtrooper my condolences haha. I imported the game being a huge fan of Dragon Quest (I had to have a physical copy) and I was very let down by the constant static image cutscenes. Though it did push me to watch the anime so I guess it's not all bad.
So, if ever made a list like this, it would probably include games that I did not finish. I did not like my time with Octopath Traveler (OT). A much younger version of me was able to put up with random battles, fixed save points, and mindless grinding. Today, I do not want those things in my games, and I really tried to like OT. I even gave it 20 hrs, which broke my 10 hr rule to get my attention. As for Trails of Cold Steel I, in my opinion, it is one of the weaker titles of the series with that really slow burn. CSII and CS III pick up the pace quite a bit.
I really hated FF8 and 13. I tried to get into both games and beat both. But they just didn't resonate with me. Same with games like the Last of us. I also agree with you on pokemon. I haven't really enjoyed the last few games. Feels like it's too focused on the ultra mega gem evolution, and less on the wonder of exploring the world and the experience. While I wouldn't say I hated it, I was not a big fan of Sea of stars, but that's for another video :p Would be fun to do a list of games you like that others hate. Sort of like a guilty pleasures list. For me something like Beyond the Beyond gets a lot of hate, and rightfully so, but for some reason I enjoy it.
@@femtrooperI gave it the benefit of the doubt. but after I was near the end, the main girl character does something do stupid and reveals a plot twist that just made me not care anymore. Only the main guy was fun to play, everyone else was horrible. I just put the game on east and sped through the last area. I felt very disappointed because I was told this was one of the best games for newcomers.
My biggest problem with trails of cold steel is the tone. So much war and conflict, yet only like 2 people die. I never felt the stakes were high because I walked into every situation 99.9% sure everyone was going to make it out alive. Even the villans most of time. And the villans.... half the time you just talking causally to them. And yeah its suuuuuper drawn out. I liked the battle system though. Schools OUT!!!!
Lucky for me I went into Torna knowing I had to do the sidequest eithe rway so it didn't hit me as such a roadblock. Cold Steel 1 is pretty much the prologue so it's the heaviest game in the Cold Steel arc, the second hits the floor running from the start. 3 and 4 are also better paced.
Nice shirt (yeah broken record i know haha) and yeah, it's cool to admit some games that you definitely couldn't stand, even if there were some here that I do personally like/love. But alas, that's what I appreciate from you, we all have our own tastes. I have some that I hate/dislike (tho it's mainly from actual bad games), and a few ones that people like, tho it's more of a "it wasn't for me", and don't really go anger about, cause I know others see something that I can't or enjoy it for reasons, I may not and that's okay.
Okay huge legend of heroes fan here but I understand so muuuch your experience here. Started with cold steel 1 and for the 90% of the game I was kinda bored and disappointed of this so-called series. But the ending did it for me and I was hooked for the long ride, it's now one of my favorite franchise of all time. But honestly if you're not into slow-burn, heavy text jrpg that might not be for you and cold steel 2 is kind of the same as the first one so probably a miss... As for trails in the sky, give it a try, there's this old-school comforting vibe and it got much more sense of adventure (I would compare it to Grandia in some part). Heard some rumors that this is gonna be re-released on modern platform !
For me "hate" is strong to use in this context but there are definitely games I did not like. Paper Mario Sticker Star Fire Emblem Fates Earthbound Breath of Fire 2 Tales of Zestiria Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Metal Gear Solid 5 Legend of Legaia Secret of Mana Dragon Quest (with the exception of 8 and 11)
I agree that the combat in the legend of heroes is top notch and fun, but the world building and character development for an incredibly boring world and characters is too much. I was able to complete the Trails in the Sky games, but I tried Cold Steel 1 and 3 and couldn't get through either.
Wow! I love you, but these really are some unpopular opinions. Luckily it’s perfectly fine for different people to like different things. 🤣😂 I totally liked every one of these games. Really nice video nonetheless. You can see your passion for the material. Also a fan of David. ❤️
I love David Vinc and your tribute video. I love the Trails Series. I started with the first Cold Steel game. I felt the back story and that I was missing so much. I recommend if you want to play another to play the Trails from Zero game. It is the previous arc. 2 games. I played them and now playing the original Trails from the Sky. I have to share that they are story centered games with lots of dialogue and things like newspapers and books to read. Truthfully the best stories in gaming that I have played. Every game builds onto one another. These might not be your games. I would check out Brandon's channel Just the Gems about Trails games. I discovered him from you. Thanks for letting us see this side of you.
I totally agree that the first ToCS is a boring slog, which happens to be quite uninteresting if you're not into "life of the high schooler in a fantasy world" :-) However, it improves a lot towards the end and gets even better in the second game, when the conflict and the game/story goals are clearly defined. I would even say that the game is at its peak in the third game. Although it is quite unfortunate that the game consists of four parts which every one takes at least 50 hours to finish :-( P.S.: Yeah, and it is also recommended not to play ToCS3 before finishing Zero/Azure duology, which doesn't help either. P.P.S.: There is also "epilogue" game: Trails into Reverie. I admit the whole series is one big mess and I am not surprised people are reluctant to hop on.
Hey! I have a fantastic channel! JK. David's channel is awesome, and I've watched more of it then I'd like to admit. His work always helps me find JRPGs that I play in my free time.
If you didn't like Trails of Cold Steel, you won't like II-IV as they are basically the exact same gameplay with some streamlining in the fighting but certainly not in the overall methods. Like they drag on forever. It's definitely more of the same. You may like Zero and Azure since they are a bit more old school and though they are long,, they are not as drawn out as the Cold Steel games.
The reason I would say play Trails of Cole Steel 2 is that the story really picks up. It moves much quicker than the first game. And a game that I hate that everyone loves if Bloodborne. I honestly don’t see what all the hype is about.
Hate Persona 3 reload - Messed up original atmosphere, music isn't as good, graphics cheap on places, ect All Pokemon switch games - no need to explain If you want a great horror vn game I got three for you) everyone: Spirit Hunter 1 Death Mark and Death Mark 2 with Spirit Hunter: NG as a side story. All three games made by Experience inc who made the drpg games like Stranger of Sword City and Undernaughts Labyrinth of Yomi. All these games have great dark atmosphere. As for Cold steel, watch summaries of 1 and 2, 3 and 4 if you want, and just play Trails to Reviere as it is a conclusion to crossbell and cold steel story arc.
Oh man, don’t even get me start on the Pokémon franchise. They’re really letting us 90s kids down. For how much the companies worth, they could easily do better. It’s really sad, I don’t get it. Every game has been awesome, then when the switch came out, all the games were meh. I do enjoy let’s go eevee and pikachu tho. I’m giving them one last chance, if they redeem themselves with Pokémon legends Z-A, I’ll have hope in the franchise again lol
This is gonna be a long one >< My first thought after watching this: oh no, she's not going to like FFVII Rebirth. The game I hate the most is Dragonball Z Sagas, it's just a bad game and I finished it in one sitting. I also hate Star Ocean 3. I love Star Ocean 4 though and I don't think 5 is as bad as the "fans" will have you think. But I haven't got very far even after all these years. With Doki Doki Lit Club and Cold Steel, you illustrated why I don't play visual novels. While Cold Steel is an rpg, it's story is structured like a visual novel. But what I like about it was the payoff at the end. It''s like watching Lord of The Rings Part 1, I can't watch the first half ever again because it's boring. Every game they evolve the combat. Part 2 Rean is a teacher instead, idk if that perspective is more inviting for you. It's also less gated than CS1. His classmates do return, but it starts to focus more on Rean and his class. Oh, I forgot about Pokemon. I dropped off after 2nd gen because I had all 251 pokemon and they were getting rid of a lot of them for new ones. I tried to get back to it with Y and Sword, but I have a major issue with both: I w anted more clothing options. Also, Sword/Shield doesn't let you wear the gym outfits just running around and I really liked some of them. Arceus I want to play for the reason you hate it. I like that you can collect every pokemon without needing to trade.
Hmmm… I don’t think that there are any popular games that I hate. Undertale probably comes the closest, but at least it has (and inspired) some incredible music. I appreciate a good rant though!
If you didn't like Trails of Cold Steel 1, I wouldn't bother playing CSII. If you want to get into the series, give Trails in the Sky a shot. If you don't like that one either, then the Kiseki/Trails series is just not for you. CS1 was my very first Trails game and I fell in love with the series the moment I played it. The series heavily relies on characters development and huge cliffhangers at the end of each game (unless it's the end of an arc). It's a very slow burn type game, which I don't mind personally if I love the characters. And I loved Rean and all of class VII.
ToCS being on this list is a bold move Paige! People are obsessed with that series but I can't help but agree. Every single character has to speak in EVERY cutscene and it's soo annoying! The conversations are SOOOO long and boring
Pokémon side/spin off games for me are way more enjoyable than the mainline Pokémon games. For me the main line games are all the same, after playing one of them I basically played them all.
For Cold steel 2, it's more fast paced for the story events, you moove a lot from an airship so it feels less tedious and less slow. But everything you hate in cold steel 1 is there in 2 and so on. I hate new zeldas (breath and its sequel). Ff7 vanilla actually. I picked the more popular ones. 😅
Atelier Ryza 2 was the biggest disappointment out of the ones I’ve completed, but I do still like it overall. I just drop games too quickly to complete one I hate.
If you ever feel like trying trails again, try Sky. It’s still slow, but it’s so charming. The little world and the towns you visit and the characters are all so fun! And it’s all just walking around to new towns and helping out there and meeting new people and seeing a little more of the world (until it very much isn’t). Now, to be fair, from your comments I’m not sure you will love the series at all even if you do start on Sky or Zero, but Cold Steel is one of the worse places to start for a lot of people, unfortunately 😕 My hate game is Zelda: A link to the Past. I see why it was great, but I cannot stand the map navigation and the combat and…i could take time to get better and learn it, but I need to be having fun in the meantime and I just don’t.
justttt incrediblyyyyy dreadfulllll 😂 as much as I love the Dragon Quest franchise, and I mean I really really love that franchise, I do not think the new Dragon Quest Monsters is as good as it could've been. I think that it has so much missed potential and lacks the polish that it deserves.
I think Doki Doki was good, not for shock value, but if you completed the game 100% and got all the emails at the end, you will get so much more out of the game.. the lore behind it is crazy.. can’t wait to see more from the developers..
Awwwwww 🥹🩵 Trails of Cold Steel and Pokémon Sword are in the list.....BAKA BAKA!!! (Jk) Sorry you didn't enjoy them 😅 Not all gears click with every cog, and not all games are universally everyone's favorite Well, maybe I'm from a big city, so I feel experiening train travel in ToCS and nice open countryside in a game gives me some happiness. Pokémon Sapphire and Emerald are much better, but for me, Pokémon Sword has it's own charm And the music of both games is AMAZING!!! 🎉 Also, love the frank lil talks and video game vids! Keep it up Trooper! 😁🩵 Wish you the very best always!🌻 Stay amazing and keep gaming!
Funny you talk about Trails of Cold Steel I feel the same way I actually fell asleep playing it few times left it to go play Tales of Zestiria came back & finished it. The robot part I don't like as well, part 2 is the same, I dropped it but will play 4 yup skipping 3 then Reverie but Zero 1st before I play Daybreak.
If you didn't like the first cold steel, don't play the others. They're all drawn out. The side quests are like "I made a mistake in my paperwork and my shipment of cloth has t arrived". I ended up liking the overarching story. The intertextuality is unlike anything else in gaming. But in the end I decided this series is too big of a time commitment. I won't be onboard for the next arc.
A game I absolutely hated finishing was Horizon Forbidden West. And I don't get it because I actually really liked Horizon Zero Dawn. The story of the sequel just didn't do it for me. Having the answers at the end of Zero Dawn got rid of the mystery of the story and so I never felt invested in Forbidden West. I also felt like they made the combat too complicated, with 6 weapons instead of 4 unique ones, and needing to double up on bows to have more than 2 arrow types. It felt worse to cycle between weapons, and too reliant on hitting weak points and stealth feeling worse in general.
I hated Zanki Zero. I was originally really enjoying the atmosphere and the story, but the moment the dungeon crawling began and the mechanics came in I went off it completely and gave up.
Great video. I haven't played any of those except Pokémon Sword and, while I actually enjoyed it, I understand everyone who doesn't. Pokémon is the biggest media franchise in the world but somehow Nintendo isn't treating it very well imo.
😂😂😂 I saw you post this on Twitter and I was like, “games you hate?? I have ALOT to say about that!!” Imagine my shock and suprise to see that it’s a tribute video to me! LOL, I’m so glad that you like the shirt!! What an amazing video!!
Haha yay!!! I hope it made you laugh! It’s a fun way to support, pay tribute and just have fun!
I really respect when people admit they didn't enjoy a game. Not everyone loves everything.
Totally!!!
Wow! I really appreciate the kind words! Thank you so much!
Agreed!!
Kudos for finishing them, I give it about 2 hours and that's plenty of time for the game to draw me in.
“Everything’s a puzzle!”
YES! And yet some people will tell you that they miss the puzzles from earlier Zelda games/dungeons. Whatever 😂
@@RealJeffTidwelllol, NO. What BotW has is NOT puzzles. It does have some mild speed bumps that suggest that you slow down to 35MPH for the school zone. 😂
But they ain't puzzles! Go play and FINISH any mainline Zelda title prior to BotW/TotK. Then get back to me.
@@Xoulrath_ I probably finished OOT and WW a decade before you were born
low IQ huh
With Arceus, I was more mad that I literally fell from the sky and I was expected to carry their survey corps
Great video! Would love to see a Games that you walked away from video down the road!
Definitely going to do it!
Could not agree more with the Pokémon games and
Doki doki literature club.
9:58 Paige doing those voices in a sarcastic tone was hilarious! 😂
Appreciate this, thank you!
I feel that! That’s a game I actually dropped!
This. I’ve had no interest in any Trails games other than Sky
I 100% want to check that one out!
I recommend it, it is slow but once when you get to the second game it goes much faster but you have to play the first game to understand everything.
Couldn't agree more on the arceus stuff. I think I liked it more than you did, but I was burnt out on the catching by the second "open area"
Feeling this way with Final fantasy 16. I’m struggling hard…
Yep, I found that game a bit of a slog at times!!!
@@femtrooper ZZZzzz…
Based on the reviews that I've seen, it's a 20ish hour game, with like 80 hours of movies lol. The combat is cool, based on what I played of it from the demo. But I'll definitely be waiting for this one on a massive sale.
Totally agree with you on new places. I'm also tired of America Japan and Europe. But I feel Japanese devs won't leave their comfort zone here.
Lol.
YESSSS! Haha and thanks so much!
Agreed with almost every game on this list (though I hated XC2, so technically not on the list). Well said on all of them!
Doki doki is very good, but the visual novel YOU AND ME AND HER which came way before runs with the horror on a deeper level.
No body got time for all that
Earthbound is awesome.
OMG! YES! Arceus was so repetitive and boring. Just an awful Pokémon game!
When it comes to Doki Doki. How many run throughs did you do? the story gets pretty deep towards the end when your messing with the computer files etc.
Part 2 of cold steel essentially correctes all the problems part one had
Wow so amazing to watch. Am waiting for another great video like this one next time 😊
If you HATED Cold Steel 1 you shouldn’t play 2.
I appreciate that!!! Can’t like everything!
"Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna The Golden Country"
my mind: *audience applause*
that KILLED this game for me b/c they did it TWICE, about locking your game progression until you beat certain sidequests, whyyyyy, and then I see people call this the best Xenoblade and again...whyyyyy
the combat is great for sure, but requiring me to do needless busywork just to actually progress, nah I'm checking out
Torna requires for your improving skills and complete a specific side quest to complete in order to progress. Thank god Future Redeemed being the best DLC ever.
@@therealjaystone2344 I was worried going into Future Redeemed that it'd pull the same crap as Torna, but luckily it was leagues ahead of that
As Spanish I'm very disappointed that a pokemon game based in my country looks so bad 😢
Yeah, it has nothing to do with that. Anything can be great but it was just boring.
All those Pokémon games you mentioned I too own and are in their shrink wrap still. I think I’ll continue to keep them that way 😅
The trails games are not for everyone, I enjoy them a lot but I understand that they can be a bit drawn out. You absolutely have to be in the correct mood
Totally fair! It’s just not for me.
Oh my god, so true about Doki Doki Literature Club. Completely agree.
Yay!!!
It’s a wonderful idea and one I’ve been trying to work on! Not sure if I have that many but I’ll try and figure it out!
Here is a list of games that i hate' (in random order)
1. Fortnite
2. Final Fantasy 12
3. Dragonball Z Ultimate Battle 22 (Worst Dragonball game I've ever played)
4. Metal Gear Survive (Worst game Metal Gear game I've ever played)
5. Yu-gi-oh Capsule Monster coliseum
6. Tropico 5
Something tells me that you might like that new Pokémon game…. Lol
Finally got around to playing Elden Ring and have decided I hate Souls-like games. Not having a good time with it. The difficulty is off the charts and it feels like you need to grind to upgrade the character. Despite my hatred for it I can’t stop playing it.
I thought that Arceus had a lot of flaws, but I enjoyed the game. But I agree 100% with Sword/Shield. The gym battles were fun thought
I absolutely love the Diamond/Pearl remakes - check out my 10/10 Switch Games video and you may find them there… :)
@@femtrooper I will. Thanks. You’re so cool!
Woah woah woah. We need some words about these choices hahahaha
Hehe 😉
Hey Paige, thanks for the list :) for my part on game that come in my mind when I think about games I hated, is Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, I beat it, but I did not like the story and the fact that often, well most of the time your teams is seperated.
100% agree on Arceus being a collectathon. I actually enjoyed it. But got to a certain point and just said enough and moved on.
Props for making it through all these. I liked Arceus but it did feel boring at times, I never finished it.
There are A LOT of issues with FF8!
a few games that I hated? Crymachina, because it was basically a tea party simulator coupled with going through the same dungeon over and over and bad action RPG combat. I also despised Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, the game looked gorgeous but it felt so clunky and its 80% cutscenes. Better off just watching the anime in that case.
Haha, I’m currently playing The Adventure of Dai!!! I don’t mind it but it has its flaws for sure.
@@femtrooper my condolences haha. I imported the game being a huge fan of Dragon Quest (I had to have a physical copy) and I was very let down by the constant static image cutscenes. Though it did push me to watch the anime so I guess it's not all bad.
i loved Pokemon Sword/Shild DLCs, and the base game,. is like "2 in 1", with open world and traditional routes.
Oh, that’s awesome you had a good time with it!
While I wouldn't say I hated it, I was not a big fan of Sea of stars, but that's for another video :p
Would be fun to do a list of games you like that others hate. Sort of like a guilty pleasures list. For me something like Beyond the Beyond gets a lot of hate, and rightfully so, but for some reason I enjoy it.
Tales of Arise. The first and only tales game I’ve played.
Did you like it?
Paper Mario Sticker Star
Fire Emblem Fates
Earthbound
Breath of Fire 2
Tales of Zestiria
Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
Metal Gear Solid 5
Legend of Legaia
Secret of Mana
Dragon Quest (with the exception of 8 and 11)
I agree that the combat in the legend of heroes is top notch and fun, but the world building and character development for an incredibly boring world and characters is too much.
Thank you!!!
I am the same way. Almost nothing triggers me either. If its in a video game then I'll play it.
That’s good to know!
Hate
Persona 3 reload - Messed up original atmosphere, music isn't as good, graphics cheap on places, ect
All Pokemon switch games - no need to explain
If you want a great horror vn game I got three for you) everyone:
Spirit Hunter 1 Death Mark and Death Mark 2 with Spirit Hunter: NG as a side story.
Thanks for the recommendations! Appreciate it!
Omg!!! Yes! I am so let down!!!
@@femtrooper Great video btw!! Forgot to mention that 😁
This is gonna be a long one ><
My first thought after watching this: oh no, she's not going to like FFVII Rebirth.
Oh, FFVII Remake is one of my favourite games of all time so Rebirth will likely take over!
@@femtrooper Well I look forward to hearing all about it. I restarted Remake sunday and the combat is just excellent.
Thank you! I appreciate this!
ToCS being on this list is a bold move Paige! People are obsessed with that series but I can't help but agree. Every single character has to speak in EVERY cutscene and it's soo annoying! The conversations are SOOOO long and boring
I personally never got into Earthbound. I don't hate it, but it is boringly painful
I just drop games too quickly to complete one I hate.
rya 3 was a bigger disappointment as 2
@@therealjaystone2344 I didn’t complete Ryza 3 because the size of the text gave me headaches😞
If you ever feel like trying trails again, try Sky. It’s still slow, but it’s so charming. The little world and the towns you visit and the characters are all so fun! And it’s all just walking around to new towns and helping out there and meeting new people and seeing a little more of the world (until it very much isn’t).
Now, to be fair, from your comments I’m not sure you will love the series at all even if you do start on Sky or Zero, but Cold Steel is one of the worse places to start for a lot of people, unfortunately 😕
My hate game is Zelda: A link to the Past. I see why it was great, but I cannot stand the map navigation and the combat and…i could take time to get better and learn it, but I need to be having fun in the meantime and I just don’t.
Love this! Sky is one I really do want to try one day!
justttt incrediblyyyyy dreadfulllll 😂
as much as I love the Dragon Quest franchise, and I mean I really really love that franchise, I do not think the new Dragon Quest Monsters is as good as it could've been. I think that it has so much missed potential and lacks the polish that it deserves.
Sonic games. Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2. Devil May Cry 3. The Witness. Just Cause 4. Off the top of my head. Just absolutely dreadful
(Jk)
Sorry you didn't enjoy them 😅 Not all gears click with every cog, and not all games are universally everyone's favorite
Well, maybe I'm from a big city, so I feel experiening train travel in ToCS and nice open countryside in a game gives me some happiness. Pokémon Sapphire and Emerald are much better, but for me, Pokémon Sword has it's own charm
And the music of both games is AMAZING!!! 🎉
Also, love the frank lil talks and video game vids!
Good to know! It just wasn’t for me which is too bad.
I love this kind of content ✅✌🏼
Thank you!
Oh man…yuck! I appreciate this!
I’ve always wanted to try that one but I feel like maybe I wouldn’t like it.
Great video. I haven't played any of those except Pokémon Sword and, while I actually enjoyed it, I understand everyone who doesn't. Pokémon is the biggest media franchise in the world but somehow Nintendo isn't treating it very well imo.
I agree!!! They always cut corners with Pokémon games and yet they have the most money! Drives me insane.
Oh my God- your hair looks awesome!!
Thank you!
