"... where his vocal basically wrap around the rest of the set like a warm blanket" is probably the best description I've ever heard of Devin's voice.
I went back to school recently to do a sound engineering program. When DTP played Toronto a few weeks ago I asked Lisa if I could ask her a few questions about her setup. She spent a good 15-20 'minutes giving me a tour of the booth and answering any questions I had.. She's not only a great sound engineer but a really nice person, happy to see you guys spending some time on her in these vids!!
I really like her, I would absolutely love to go to a workshop if she held one.
At Danforth? I was there as well.
I love Canadians! Greetings from the U.K. ! Live long and prosper!
This was a fascinating episode! Thanks for focusing on each person's gear, Zim!
......and yes, the nerdier she talks, the hotter she gets.
I could watch Lisa talk about delays and reverbs all damn day.
Her intelligence is intimidating to my dream of playing music lol. I bet she's done this forever AND is a natural at it
Never knew the sound person's job was so complex. Thanks for the insight, Zim and Lisa!
depends of the music and the band. But were talking about Devin here and he could do her job easily if he could. So being a sound engineer for Devin is like the top of the cake of skills and nowledge.
It's been 7 years since I studied audio engineering and left the field, but it still hurts to remember that people have no idea what the sound person does (but assume it must be simple)! haha
From one sound engineer to another, YOU'RE AWESOME LISA.
Sound engineer here, too. Do you know of any more bands Lisa has worked with?
I want to sound engineer :(
A few :-) www.dpamicrophones.com/our-company/masters-club/lisa-affenzeller

She's a woman of many talents...
Man, all this stuff is so cool. It's easy to be blown away by Devin, Ryan, Beav, Dave, and Mike (and on special occasion Anneke) while they're on stage, but all the extra stuff that Lisa and Mike and the rest of the crew is equally astonishing close up. Cheers, Zim!
hey zim, thanks for the techy close ups like this! I love this kinda shit. Thanks!!
Amazing! Now we need: 1. Daily video starring Lisa, 2. Q&As with Lisa, 3. A reality Show about Lisa, 4. T-shirts, hats... Make it possible Zim
Definitely, a sound engineer is ALSO a member of the band in a concert, I like the fact that musicians have the humility to speak about such a critical function during a concert :-)
I saw Zim twice walking around at this show and I wasn't able to stop him and let him know how much I love his videos, so I'm doing it now. Love the videos, Zim! Keep 'em coming!
Never knew how much work went into the sound desk before, everyone in this crew is so talented.
Lisa kills it. She does a fantastic job
OK, that is the cutest tech video I've ever seen. She needs her own channel, period.
What an amazingly talented sound engineer, no wonder Devin sounds awesome live. Great insight! Thank you
I've been trying to find out what microphone Devin uses live and now I know exactly, thanks to you Zim and Lisa! Cheers!
Zim To The Rescue 👍
These videos make me feel three things. Admiration, a sense of urge to play live again as soon as possible, and I have a crush on Lisa.
"There are 50 cows, 20 ate chickens (28 chickens), how many did not?"
There are 10 apples, I ate 3. How many sausages are there up my ass?
thanks for the behind the scenes look at all the hard work and experience that go into making DTP's great sound!
There's nothing better than a front of house person that gives a shit. It makes or breaks a show
I like how the 'Caution Children' sign on the ice cream truck warns children to stay away from ice cream trucks.
That was me that said, "The rest!" lol
Love the insight into the soundtech mumbo jumbo
Thanks Lisa! Zim!
Lisa is awesome. The live show sounds great. Keep up the good work!
Damn she is awesome!!!
Fascinating insight from Lisa on what she does, love these videos so much!!
I met Lisa back in 2016. Asked her out and she was like "oh I'm going home" Well, at least I met Dev after that =)
Metal mom is pretty cool for doing what she does.
At last. A video featuring.... MA BABEZZ
Brains and beauty on that sound engineer.
Glad you got 'em!
Take that, analog sound GUYZ. Awesome insight once more!
Shoulda played SYL's "Satan's Ice Cream Truck" at the end. I consider that a lost opportunity.
I will say you my friend are correct that would have been EPIC!
Such a Jewel.
Waves in a live mixing box...Love Waves plugins!!! Been using them for 20 years
"Caution Children"-to stay away from creepy ice cream trucks.
very nice. I enjoyed this .
Lisa is so awesome!!
Awesome video
Lisa is giving an awesome rig tour... Goes into great detail... And im like... "Whaaa?"
Distractingly cute...
Heavy Devy, Girls talking tech and icecream van. I am in my happy place.
Damn, no wonder it sounds wicked. Waves Audio is #1. Man, she does a wicked job. I wonder what type of hardware they need to run that board. If the VSTs are directly on the board, or if the board is hooked up to a computer, essentially running midi controlled interfaces. I guess if they all run AxeFX racks, you'd have a better way to interface FOH.
What complicated shit that would be! I use Linux with Ardour, JACK. a couple different midi controllers with low latency/ real-time kernels and that alone with just me messing around difficult enough! I couldn't imagine the routing with the everyone.
Is RVP also connected via midi? I wonder what type of audio gear he uses to get the sound that he gets. Obviously everything is routed to FOH, and through waves. But I wonder if he uses more than that.
Yeah!
8:39 - stand up for Vintage Exciter!!
This world needs more people like Lisa. Knowledgeable, practical and hard-working female engineers in all disciplines are sadly lacking thanks to male bias. I have consistently found women to make better, more capable engineers, and far less prone to ego-throwing than men. Nice to see so much objectification in the other comments....
Awesome GIRL! ) So smart and cute )
I love Dave's Recto
Somebody get Lisa a beer! So interesting seeing the live desk stuff :)
I'm putting the looks second next to her intellect...that works ..refreshing..
You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream. [melts in Spanish]
cool episode. you should the same about the lights. cant believe i have to wait til january to see the show.
most of the lighting stuff is in the Mike St-Jean video, titled "THE MSJ".
Yeah I got to wait till friggin March!!!!!!
But I was at Ziltoid Albert Hall and Retinal....just saying... :-p
\m/
Do they travel with their own mics and everything too? Seems like they bring everything but the PA.
Would love to know what other mics they use. Maybe I'll catch Lisa in Denver this weekend.
Sometimes when editing ..finding the most obscure thing..is always the best :)
wow digico sd9 - that £20K worth of desk!
That RBass plug-in may be the best plug-in for adding in your bass or sub frequencies. You'd think boosting around 32-250hz in something like a Waves eq would do the same but all these plug-ins have a different transient which makes a huge difference in sound. Example: a +6db increase of 56hz in RBass sound way more clear and full than a +6db increase of 56hz in Wave VEQ4. RBass is really great for adding in some bass into my kicks or some subtle subs in my mixes.
Where is she from? Deutschland?
hey zim, in one of the earlier episodes Devin said that Nick was a very good guitar player. Any chance you can get him to play something on video?
Wow
The only thing I don't like about using the SD9 (in my case T console) is the macro buttons and lack of labelling and pages and the faders... for a £16,000 desk... the faders are terrible!
Also anyone know if Lisa is using the whole power of 2 impact servers of its a redundant system?
Do more videos like this. No one expects to see meet-and-greets everyday...except the band. My sympathies to them, er whatever.
I understood barely anything she was talking about but I could've listened a whole lot more
Hey Devin! Fellow Kemper owner here. Have you shared your recto patch(es) anywhere? I'd love to use them for my band's shows!
Lisa was extremely interesting. I could have watched an hour of her describing sound engineering.
add to private playlist "sound design mixing". Thanks please save this video!
one of the ex-members of falluja went to my high school! He's in his own big band now.
4:15 typical lead guitarist, just talking to people shredding away like it aint no thing :D
YES. WOMAN SOUND ENGINEER. REPRESENT. i was an engineer for a couple of years in high school and 4 years in my university. 🤘🏻
I don't understand what you're talking about at all, but it looks really complicated. Sounds fantastic though, so keep up the great work, Lisa!
Im so god darn early on this video
Was that satan's ice cream truck? :O
That kind of ending was the shit
Dude, you should have requested the hats before the New Orleans show. I absolutely would have obliged.
Zim is for sure guy from How to Basic
Holy fuck, I feel old
HTOWN!!! \H/
I am in love with Lisa.
Thought this was a Vsauce video
woo there's me
where?
That was definitely Satan's Ice Cream Truck
I would marry Lisa in a heart beat....beautiful.
As always a treat to watch your daily tour vlogs Zim. The intro/opening of mail reminded me of many a Casey Neistat vids.
Videos are getting better everyday. Keep em coming!!
definite influence.
Devin....any chance of purchasing one of your very finely-tuned Kemper profiles? Bitcoin ok???? :D
The best version of that silly cow/chicken riddle imo is:
There are 50 cows in a field, and "28" chickens.
How many didn't?
Dude with the glasses at the start of the video kinda looks like Randy Blythe
Not sure if it's been mentioned or asked, but I'm sure there's tons of people wondering what type of equipment you're using to film. Camera's, mics, lighting, editing software??? At least one person is interested. Plus, your website zimzimy.com is not working. Amateur filmmakers want to know! Great job, bud.
Did you guys seriously use your vlog for a product placement ad? Lmao
Where's Lisa from? She's got some kind of accent, I like it
She's that girl from How To Train Your Dragon
Austria ;)
Ohh. Go' day mate. Let's put another shrimp on the barby!
BigFatCock It's a Dumb & Dumber quote, don't be so quick to judge man.
I wasn't quick to judge. That's why I asked.
aw man i didnt go.....
so pretty girl OMG i'm in love :3
30 cows in a field, 20 ate chickens, how many didn't?
K
Anyone else think this was going to be about mixing? Lol
There are 3 chickens. 19 are actually cows. 4 ate a cow but 13 cow ate chicken. How many.
i bet you somehow, one of the cows are actually devin.. that sounds to me like something he'd do. act like a cow.
You got it. Congration.
42
Excellent
cows cows cows
I think I like to listen to Lisa more than Dev now. *Swoon*
Satan's Ice Cream Truck at the end?
Beav is a flyers fan?!?!
was that satan's ice cream truck?
It might turn us blue but I'd honestly come running for that truck.
I never designed a hat before... you might just be better off going to the hat airbrush kiosk at the mall :-]
Or have someone knit one up. My brother had one of his employee's (from India) the wife knit him a Cthulu hat. So question is what sorta hat do the men want..baseball..or.. something cool..?
can someone help me with
Lisa's facebook page ?
question for the band. 420 blaizzzzzzzzzzzzzzit? ééééééééééééÉÉÉh?
There are 30 chickens. There are 30 cows. 28 chickens (twenty ate chickens). How many chickens are there...?
