    I like the fact that your videos are extremely educational. You don't just cover the topics that every other Reptile TH-camr does. You get much more in detail and I really like it.

    To be fair I think Adam should have to come back and take 20% of the bites from the non-handled group.

    They are soooo cute. I find all baby snakes trying to convince a person of just how dangerous they are absolutely adorable. 😍
    Also, the new hairstyle is so very flattering on you!

    This is great; exactly the kind of home experiment that helps me. I am about to buy a baby Macklot’s thanks in large part to you. In my former life I taught high school biology. If it was still in my power you would be the recipient of lots of extra credit!

    I honestly don't mind getting bitten by small snakes, it's the musk that sticks so long that bothers me, When I think I got the musk off, I get a nice surprise later,

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that musk sure does linger. The worst is when you think you've got it all but you're actually just desensitized to it, and you go out in public and get hit by someone making a face saying 'what's that smell!?'

    This was a brilliant video! Never seen another herptuber do anything like this. Well done. One thing, please include more extreme close up footage of the animals.

    this is EXTREMELY helpful! i’m currently taming down a hatchling and ive heard so many methods and i was struggling to pick. definitely doing this with mine☺️ thank you for always making great content!

      Glad it helped! I've got a video from earlier this summer where I share more tips for taming snakes. If you haven't seen it already that might help too!

    Thank you for doing that test, I am currently deciding how I plan to socialize a young boa that I have. Lori Torrini has such a different approach that has me second-guessing.

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lori Torrini is wonderful and the work she does with her snakes is incredible. She is a huge proponent of choice-based handling which is what I do a lot of the time with my pet snakes as well. That said, trying to tame down 16 bitey macklots babies (and 13 Dumerils Boa babies too) so that they can be ready to go to thier forever homes in a short period of time doesn't really allow for the luxury of choice-based handling for these babies. Straight exposure with no negative outcome is a lot more efficient in this case. As long as you are consistent and gentle, I'm sure you and your young boa will get there!

      @@AllCanadianReptileGirl I'm in Florida.... Do you happen to ship to the southern US? 😅

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Snake_Boi I wish I could, but sadly, no. The import costs along with all the extra permits/paperwork for shipping into the US are way too much for someone like me selling snakes here or there to be practical.

    Great experiment. Good to see some actual data about the difference handling makes. Definitely need more of these experiments.

  • @ChrisHoustonRN

    Awesome experiment. I may have missed it, but did you mention how long you handled each hatchling per session each day?

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I kept it short given the number of snakes involved (along with the rest of my reptiles needing attention too). For the experiment, it was 5 minutes each.

    Congratulations to you, Hobbes, and Cali on such a beautiful bunch of babies! I enjoy your videos very much. In this particular instance I have to say that personally I'm not much into just reaching in and picking up scared snakes as a method of habituating them. You can help them learn that you are safe and OK in a way that is more on their own terms and without forcing them to be handled.
    I've gotten really excellent results even with extremely defensive snakes with using choice-based handling instead. I just wanted to mention this in case you are not familiar with Lori Torrini's outstanding work in this area - she's got some very good videos I'd encourage you to check out and at least consider.
    Also - great haircut!

    • @LoriTorrini
      @LoriTorrini ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for mentioning that. Yes, you can desensitize babies through passive methods, Choice-based interaction and through active habituation to introduce touch and handling with considerate approach and gentle handling. I saw some of that here. I need to probably do more content about that specifically! I LOVE ❤️ the hair.

    This just me being a nerd, but do you think you could include the strike data in the form of like a google sheets page? I want to check for statistical significance between the daily and 3x handled snakes. Yes I’m procrastinating on my thesis introduction, why do you ask?

    7:28 "We can give them a little assistance if needed" That is the side I take with cutting eggs. 😐 Leave the animal to develop entirely on his own without any early destruction to the egg. 😐 Only make a hole when the fully developed animal actually needs it. 🥚
    10:00 At this point, this species is definitely 1 of those with very bitey babies! 🦷
    19:00 Interesting bite results. 🤓🤕
    19:35 51 bites. 🩸 Talk about literal Snakebytes. 🩸🐍
