      are you using this through a printer or traditional photography methods?

      @@laa7nach most ink jet photo papers have a special coating aka external sizing on them to make the ink stick and prevent it form bleeding. If you want something simple and easy to use I suggest InkAid inkaid1.com/. Goldent Artist Materials used to make their Digital Grounds but it has since been discontinued. It works as I have used it with great success but I assume it was discontinued because it didn't sell well. When I worked at Daniel Smith in Seattle we didn't sell a whole lot of it. Now as wo what kind of coating professional paper mills use, I sadly couldn't tell you.
      If you have any other questions please ask.

    Any idea where the home papermaker can get ASA for internal sizing?

    • @mattpernack6816

      Sadly no. Because its mostly used in commercial paper making and it is sold by volume. Have you tried contacting any of the companies producing the product and ask them?

      @@mattpernack6816 As you said it is mainly for commercial papermaking but may give contacting them a try. I appreciate the response. Thank you.

    What do you think about paper using natural fibres?

      With only a few exceptions all paper uses natural fibers.

    Do you know anything about Bible paper?

    • @mattpernack6816
      @mattpernack6816  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is called Scritta paper. It is basically an acid-free paper made from either wood pulp, cotton or linen. It often has fillers added to it, the most popular being Titanium White Pigment. They use fillers to make the paper more opaque and harder to see through. They use the fillers because Scritta paper is very thin, because if they didn't the books would be very thick. I don't even know where you can buy the actual paper. In fact, it is so notorious difficult to work with that only a few select print houses do so. I heard they even need special equipment to print on them because most modern printers can't even handle the paper. The paper is used in hymnals dictionaries and encyclopedias too.

      @@mattpernack6816 interesting. I was hoping to get my hands on some to see if I can make an art journal out of it. Bible Journaling has become popular and i have become curious on the thin paper.

      @@joycreateslife Honestly your best bet is to try and contact a paper supply house and see what they can do for you. You are probably going to have to buy at least an entire ream of paper and it will more than likely be at a full size sheet which will likely be 33" by 46" ish. you can try this i found these links for th eU.S> www.thomasnet.com/products/bible-paper-56863608-1.html and the U.K. store.bookbinding.co.uk/store/product/7479/Offenbach-Bible-Paper-50gsm/

    Just out of curiosity, is paper money sized? I assume it must be but not sure how or to what extent. There's going to be a lot of angry vegans if it turns out that they're carrying gelatin cash!

    • @mattpernack6816
      @mattpernack6816  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not have a definitive answer for that but money is made using several printing processes but the rotogravure process is the part that does all the small detail. Its basically an intaglio process so i assume it has to have sizing on it or it would bleed a whole lot. More than likely its an acrylic type sizing or a plant based one because it would be less expensive than gelatin based sizing. I am making assumptions because the paper making process is typically held in secret to prevent counterfeiting. the only information i could find was on Wikipedia that says bank note paper is infused with polyvinyl alcohol or gelatin instead of water. they are being intentionally vague is my belief.
