Thanks for the video Jason. It's nice to have a good decent price hotspot out there.
I switched both my hotspots to WPSD a few months ago and haven't looked back. I think it is a lot more coinvent than pi-star with all the extra settings.
Wow, this is crazy, I never expected to sellout instantly. Thank you Jason for this amazing video and thank you guys for a instant sellout, I will use my profits to get on HF and to expand my amateur radio journey. And for anyone wondering I am now accepting preorders.
Thank you for the review, looks like a nice option in the world of hotspots. Like the features and affordability.
Colins got a great channel.. Love to see the younger guys show an interest to ham radio !
I wanna live in a country where 150 bucks is cheap.
I want you to also
Nice!! Thanks..
Sounds like something I can handle. Especially if it’s set up for me and my Yeasu-FT70. Thanks
Looks interesting.
Would you mind doing a review on the 2023 TCA PRC 152? They claim to be 15w and more robust than the prior models. Love watching your stuff!
I'll look
I bought one, I have been wanting a HotSpot, and in my new QTH the shack is not in the house, I can play radio from inside the house with the hotspot.
I flashed my hotspot from pistar to wpsd months ago. Never looked back.
Yep, good call
I thought you were talking about a Wifi Hotspot, at first! But, its a Digital Radio HotSpot! DAHhhhh...
Kinda dumb that they call these hotspots but yea, not WiFi
Any reason why this couldnt be run on a RPI 3B? Power consumption is significantly more on the 4.
I don't see why not
Got a question Jason I'm thinking about getting a DMR mobile will I need a hotspot to run it in my car I am still learning about DMR and I'm still learning about Ham Radio too since I got my first license in 2022 I've always wanted to have amateur license since I bought my first CB license just before the last year they throw them in the garbage in the 70s. 73 K4BWN
You'll need a hotspot in your car unless you have local DMR repeaters near you
@@HamRadio2 Thanks I can't afford to buy both so digital radio is out of the question. 73 K4BWN
What do you do with a hotspot?

Looks like a cool piece of gear, thanks for another great video! 73 N2SCD
You bet
Looks like a cool device. He says he'll config the hotspot for the user, will it be plug and play, or do you have to config it more after you get it? Thanks for sharing. KC3UEE
It'll be PNP
Hardware looks like regular V1.3 MMDVM_HS_Dual_Hat hotspot. What's the hardware difference? Closed software? - "no" for me.
No it's not closed software
@@HamRadio2 Nice then! (but can't find download info on hotspot author web page).
@@arekxit’s an open source software project. Look harder ;-)
pardon me for being a little cynical here, but all it looks like is a reskinned version of pi-star with some features added to it, as far as it goes I like that it displays the room name, probably does the same for BM.TGIF talkgroups, but if my current hardware, but it looks to me like a dual band hat with a raspberry pi single board with some paint thrown on pi-star for the most part
Except that WPSD is much better than Pi-star
Uhhhh it’s much more than that.
Already out of stock!
That's how I roll
I am now accepting preorders.
Please ditch the music. I keep thinking I am watching a video game.
Most people like it
I got a duplex hotspot, DSTAR it's great I can disconnect from a busy reflector. I was hoping on DMR I could do the same thing. Nope just let's me listen to two talk groups at the same time. Kinda pointless on DMR
Wrong. DMR allows you to listen to 2 TGs like a repeater does
100% incorrect statement 😂
It does not support FM fully. Needs upgrade.
What do you mean, what else would it support?
FM? No, why would it? It's a DV Hotspot
@@HamRadio2 : Refering specifically to WPSD. WPSD is "PI-STAR ", it's simply a different GUI. As you may already my aware, you have many different types of STM32 hotspot boards. In my case I use the STS32 MMDVM repeater controller board by Repeater Builder. My hotspot is essentially a repeater controller running PI-STAR. I tried WPSD, and it works, however though "FM" mode does technically work, the new GUI in WPSD does not recognize it nor indicates anything "FM" on the DASHBOARD and when using a Nextion screen. It's like it does not excist, but the configuration settings for "FM" are there, just like in PI-STAR.
WPSD is most definitely not PiStar, and is not “just different a gui.” It’s a completely different distribution, and has full FM support. Learn more about it/use it/contribute to it before you spout gross misinformation.
Bridgecom support is the worst!
Disagree
@@HamRadio2 I guess they never sold you a USED radio!
