Nodes up a tower should be controlled from another node via the admin channel. No need for BT or WiFi up a tower when you can control the device remotely on the mesh.
Appreciate the mention 🙏, great informative video. The ESP32 and the NRF52 are the MCU for the devices. It’s basically the brain. NRF52 is much more efficient so you won’t need to charge your device as much.
I have a lot of the same units you have. The T-Deck and the T-Beam Supreme are the better ones I like. The heltic V3 is probably the best place to start. Low entry and you can add a GPS to it for less than $20.00. Still looking at all that is going to. There are guys working on the user interface on the T-Deck to make it more user friendly. I can't wait to see what they come up with. 73
Have you seen the 'Station G2' meshtastic package that has a power amplifier built in (HAM License required) that can be tweaked from 3.15 watts to 5.0 watts? The basic meshtastic boards can only output 22dbm (0.16 watts) Station G2 can output 35 -to- 37 dbm with onboard commands (3.16 - 5.0 watts)
One thing I like the nrf is that the battery on my T-Echo last for around 2-3 days on a single charge without GPS. I have one V3 that I like too but I let it on my house as a static node
A note about BT and Wifi, these little low power chips probably don't have the "grunt" to run interpretation of RX/TX 2.4GHz signals through two different methods simultaneously.
anything with the 1262 chipset, primary RAK devices, and the T-echo. They're 3-4 times more efficient than the t-beam and Helltec devices with the ESP32.
I have a Hel-TXT it came fully set up and ready to use! Which is better for me i know nothing about these things other than the basics! Any thoughts on the HEL-TXT? From really smart people that know this stuff way better than me! Loo
That was great. Meshtastic would be great in NY after what we went threw yesterday. That Hurricane that came threw Texas left a path of destruction threw many states threw Boston NY where I am out. Not only did grid go down many hours the internet and cell towers went out as well for a while. Meshtastic is great that does not need cell or internet to work once set up. NY on national news . Ham radio working well 70 CM repeaters staying up helping NOAA collect damage reports threw Skywarn . The NOAA people in my area are really great . collecting data as I type this from the lest over Hurricane. And the NOAA weather alerts where spot on. only had minor injury's . pay attention to NOAA weather alerts. It does save lives ! We can sent them alerts thru mashtastic as well . Millions still with out power in the path of the storm. Keep them batteries handy and charged ! Anyone can get into Meshtastic ! 73
I made a post online about working with our local emergency services and adding amateur radio to their plan as a backup. Someone told me that Meshtastic devices might be something I'd want to consider. Since then, I've been trying to get smarter on LoRa. I understand what they are and how they work. The part I'm struggling with is what their use case is. What does the average user do with them on a daily basis? As an amateur radio operator, what function do they provide that my radio with APRS doesn't already do? They seem like inexpensive, cool little devices that don't take up a lot of room and you can stick just about anywhere. I'm just failing to see the usefullness of them for myself or even for emergency communications. So what do you all do with them? What unique use have you found for them?
Nothing unique. Hams have been doing this for a long time. But these devices are inexpensive and you don't need a license to operate them, so they're becoming more popular among people who aren't used to communicating with off-grid equipment
I just bought a Jeep Wrangler JL 2 months ago. why can't a manufacture come out with a board for the android device that comes with the jeep so that way I can take out the Sirus XFM board and replace it with a dual band VHF/UHF with DMR plus APRS+GPS, in addition a hand mic... I know for a fact I am not going to use the XFM...plus side note I would like to add a forward camera and loop record in case I get into an accident.
Vehicle manufactures buy the in-dash radios from others companies and install what appeals to the masses. They could care less about what we radio nerds want !
Jason! Great video showing different ways to get into Meshtastic. Thanks for the shout out and kind mention. I appreciate it. I just put the 8000mAh battery that Josh talks about into my T-Deck. I haven't measured it, but it definitely last quite a bit longer. Hit me up, and I'll send you the links to the components I used. There are a couple, but I've only tested one set and they work as advertised. See you out there. 73 de Bill @Bill-HRT
Again, like I said on other comments... that was done already. I don't start from step 1 on every video. If you really wanted to know about Meshtastic, or any other topic, the information is right on this channel and not hard to find. th-cam.com/play/PLs_Ab58w9LI8J5xJDYXdWJCbVKIxM0Yvc.html&si=Lrlax-w3hFpXuSx0
TBS Crossfire which controls FPV quadcopters operates on 915Mghz. I can see how a proliferation of all this mestastic instant message random rubbish is going to start interferring with people trying to control their quadcopters in the sky.
The Wisblock I think is the best, works right out the box and the battery life with a 18650 is about a week!

Correct
Jason is the man we all understand
His knowledge we've come to know
There is no doubt it's all about
Ham Radio 2.0

Thank you for featuring our product in your video!
Any time!

Those Heltec V3 devices would be great to find in a Mystery Box!
Yep
The TBeam also has a 433 model. That is if you're looking at a TinyGS setup.
A note about BT and Wifi, these little low power chips probably don't have the "grunt" to run interpretation of RX/TX 2.4GHz signals through two different methods simultaneously.
Have you done any performance comparisons between the different radios?
anything with the 1262 chipset, primary RAK devices, and the T-echo. They're 3-4 times more efficient than the t-beam and Helltec devices with the ESP32.
I just built a h1 and another using a rotary encoder for canned msg
Great timing. I recently purchased 2 of the Hel-tec and 4 pillow batteries. Just arrived today, and I have no clue what I'm doing 😂
Enjoy!
I have a Hel-TXT it's awesome I'm new also to these devices! Mine came fully set up I didn't have to flash anything
@@jimcompton9667 where did you get that buddy?

Hey 👋, just getting started in radios what should I purchase for gmrs and what groups are in the north Texas area?
T-DECK is a 100% winner but seriously can they fix the firmware?
was gonna say my T-Beam came with the screen attached. Through Amazon but it really came from China direct.
Some do, some don't
best newbie meshtastic device is the only commercial ready one with gps from heltec which is the v3 capsule. anything else is not beginners devices.

or replace that XFM board with a FRS, GMRS, board with TX/RX. or replace it with a cb radio board, or with a scanner board ect

what about the R1 - Complete Meshtastic Device powered by RAKwireless
Yes that's a good one, but a bit more complicated

Hey, BE VERY CARFUL installing the gps on the T-DECK. Ask me how I knw?
How do you know???
If I saw a need for it then maybe, But I have not been given a good reason why I need this new tech. Thanks for the report and 73
@hamradio2.0 where's the charger for the batteries?
On most units, they will charge when you plug-in USB
Wish he did some research before making a video on a random article.
I wish he did too
The value of this was deceased by no defininition what a meshtastic device is!!!

915MHz is in the ISM band. It's a freeforall there. Probably lots of devices will interfere
Love to hear your take on (Jim W6LG) newest video about being mistrustful
Someone else mentioned that. I've not watched. I'll go look
