I don’t really want it for movies or tv I want it for my music and after hearing how clear and outstanding the bass is I can say this I’m sold and I’m getting this setup even if I can’t buy it all at once I will have this setup in my room very soon
One more comment. The only way to reproduce low frequencies is with a large cone. Therefore, I would not say the size of this subwoofer is a negative since nearly all subs are large.
I have an entertainment system with an opening that is 16.5 cm high, 54 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. Since it's non directional, I can place it anywhere in my room, but aesthetically it would look best there. Do you think it would be ok to put in that opening and not restrict any of the sound?

My GF would stand in front of it and state that it made her.. um... "chest" vibrate ;) And her stomach was a bit queasy, as well. Hehe. Bass can be your friend or worst enemy, depending upon how, where and when you use it, this looks to be one ok f the simplest, most effective setups I've seen. Next time ice got a grand to toss around, I'll get a Sonus speaker set for my TV room.
I actually have 2 Sonos play 5 (2 nd gen) on stéréo for only music listening I don't know if ad a sub on my system will improve the overall sound quality (I live in a apartment and I think my neighbors already hate me 😅)
Always loved this sub on many levels. Sure wish they'd make a wired version so I could add it to my traditional audio setup. I'm sure they'd double their sales if they did that. Heck, I'd even buy two because they're not a big box.
If you setup any sub correctly then it should be non directional, ie. you can't tell where it is located. That is the whole idea or a sub, in a sense, you should feel the sub not hear it. It should disappear into the room. This is not only a capability of the Sonos sub.
The Sonos line is a great solution for multi-room audio, but it comes at a price. I'm really liking the new IKEA Symphonisk, though. I like to see prices coming down!
What was the frequency range, did I miss it? What is the max SPL at those frequencies how does it compare with a traditional say 12 or 15 inch 500 watt sub in a cube box? Will make my heart skip a beat at full volume level? Can it shake the paintings off of my walls?
It's 25hz at its lowest, and it may not remove any paintings off your walls, but it'll make then vibrate at the least. I've had one for a couple of weeks, paired with the beam, and am pretty damn content.
That depends on whether you're looking to add bass or surround next. We personally feel the surrounds are a great next move as it's not only cheaper but puts you at the centre of the action. The Sub can finish it off with a new level of bass. Keep an eye out for Sonos offers over this Black Friday weekend!
Get the Ones, i did and the surround is amazing. Plenty enough bass for my little room from the Beam without spending £700 just to make the windows rattle.
Please allow me to correct something, It becomes very difficult or impossible to determine directionality below 80hz. therefore all speakers that operate below 80hz are non directional
weak, it can hit low, but lacks the volume. I love how it looks though. it could be improved if sonos allowed you to put more than one sub to a pair or a playbar for a 3.2/5.2 sorround sound. Hi, thanks for watching. It is possible to use 3 Subs on the same system as long as they are being used in 3 different rooms. You won't be able to pair 3 Subs to the same speaker.
Will the Sonos Sub pair or work with the Sonos Move? I just recently bought the Sonos Move to use inside, outside in the garage and while camping but I’m hoping while using it at home I could use it with the Sonos sub.
Hi Dimos, thanks for watching. The Sub cannot pair with the Move unfortunately as it could lead to problems when using it day-to-day such as if you move the Move and leave the Sub, the Sub would be playing on its own.
At close to a thousand (Australian) dollars, you may as well buy a REL. Ten times better sub for a similar price. And REL are hi-end, not low end like Sonos and BOSE (that sell at a high end price).
What was the point of the long winded setup section? That was half the video yet its only something you do once for the first 5 minutes of owning one. And its sonos its easy...plus anyone looking at the sub will no doubt have a sonos speaker already and be familiar with the setup.
Thanks for the video! I purchased a Sonos Beam several months ago. It has worked perfectly: I connect a Samsung 55" TV to it by HDMI-ARC. Though, with Alexa, if I say Alexa turn TV on, it will. But if I say Alexa, turn television on, she says glibly, you do not have such a device. 🤣 Alexa is really quite a dumb blonde: Google is far more informative. I think Alexa needs another decade of schooling! However, Google is often unable to turn the TV off, not sure why. Maybe because Chromecast has a hold on it. And oh, Google does correctly respond to "turn television on." :) Anyhow, at this time the Sonos Sub is $800 here in the USA. I surely am *not* spending that. No, the Beam does not have earth-shaking bass, but really, one can enjoy a movie just fine without it. The bass is really quite good for a soundbar. In another room, I have a fairly new LG TV. I decided to spend $800 for a Bose 500 bundle, which is the 500 Soundbar and wireless subwoofer. I am quite satisfied with it. At times I think, heck, I should have spent more to get the 700 bundle but that is $1500. Not worth it for me; besides, that room also has a Pioneer Elite receiver that is about 15 years old, connected to a Jamo surround system. So old that it has a passive subwoofer; nobody sells those anymore! :) But hey, it does a very satisfactory job with Dolby Digital. This is another reason I did not get the Bose 700 system. The new Sonos ARC, about to be released, will put the Playbar to sleep forever. It will have Dolby Atmos, plus eARC HDMI input. It will also have an optical in, but honestly, while optical is great (I use it to connect a DVD player and a Roku to the Pioneer) it is pretty much obsolete after the advent of eARC. Just my tuppence worth :) For those outside the UK, tuppence is the proverbial two pennies! :)
The big difference with subs is that they have basically no voice content. Sure you can just turn up the bass with normal speaker woofers but that also makes the voice sound too deep and boomy. We don't want that, we want nice floaty airy voice sound. And the only way to achieve that (and still have bass) is with a sub.
When will Sonos be updating the playbar to have google and Alexa integration? I have 5 Sonos 1 and a beam at the moment but want the playbar for my living room setup
Hi all, I have just Won this Sonos Sub The Beam Bar and 2 Speakers in a competition on ITV I I already have a set up and dont want to change. Is anyone interested in buying the full system ? Please comment and I'll pass on my number. Thanks Harvey.
Dude, you need to think this out better. You really need to crank up the dbs if you want to feel the bass. Also, it’s much easier to feel the bass in a car than it is in a house. Why not just say that without bass, you lose 1/3 of the music?
Great informative and concise review! But I have to say, the matched split grain on the back of the bar insets is subliminally making me hungry for some reason...

whether it's overpriced or not is not a fact, it is opinion. Therefore I'd imagine you are both correct and both incorrect. 🤣 The sub is nice looking and good for some situations - it didn't meet the expectations I had, so I went to BK Elec and got something more capable for the size of main room I have.

You can definitely tell sonos and Bose market towards people with more money than sense. The you can place a subwoofer anywhere in a room is a complete myth. Subwoofers that play at frequencys below 80Hz create peaks and nulls. Peak will be the subwoofer creates a boomy sound thats too much in one place. And a null where the sub provides no bass at all in another place of a room even though the volume is exactly the same. Secondly you say if your passionate about your audio you buy this 😂😂. Anyone who is truely passionate about music will not own one piece of sonos equipment. Dont buy a story. Buy a decent product!! Kef, Bowers and Wilkins, cambridge audio. I have owned sonos and Bose products and fell into the trap. but after being introduced to manufacturers that actually dedicate thier lives to the building of audio equipment you will realise that sonos and Bose are overpriced cheap tosh!!

For what a Sonos setup costs you can build a nice little 5.1 surround sound system that will crush Sonos!
Which One It’s Better Bose 700 Or Sonos ?
I've been racking my brain over the Bose 700, the Samsung Q90R and now the Sonos ARC with the sub.
The big difference with subs is that they have basically no voice content. Sure you can just turn up the bass with normal speaker woofers but that also makes the voice sound too deep and boomy. We don't want that, we want nice floaty airy voice sound. And the only way to achieve that (and still have bass) is with a sub.
This should remain as a review like your title shows. Not a “how-to” video on setting it up
Thats for being a dink... Very helpful

When will Sonos be updating the playbar to have google and Alexa integration? I have 5 Sonos 1 and a beam at the moment but want the playbar for my living room setup
Paul Merrick get the base one if you want it quick but there isn’t talk of a new playbar to my knowledge
Bring on black Friday!
Hi, can the subwoofer also be positioned with the side part facing the listening position?
Giuseppe Di Stefano yes
Hi all, I have just Won this Sonos Sub The Beam Bar and 2 Speakers in a competition on ITV I I already have a set up and dont want to change. Is anyone interested in buying the full system ? Please comment and I'll pass on my number.
Thanks
Harvey.
Not much of a sub-Review.. only commercial
And they even enabled ads... on their own ad! Not sure if I should laugh or cry.
Dude, you need to think this out better. You really need to crank up the dbs if you want to feel the bass. Also, it’s much easier to feel the bass in a car than it is in a house. Why not just say that without bass, you lose 1/3 of the music?
Scared to spend $2,000 on a Sonos setup and have them discountine it in a couple years..
Set the sub up in the app. That is some sentence.
Great informative and concise review! But I have to say, the matched split grain on the back of the bar insets is subliminally making me hungry for some reason...
Almost no sub vibrates When its on low with the app When u put it higher in the app it will vibrate off course
It seems that things cannot satisfy everything in size, power, volume, frequency, and sound quality.
I must say the Sonos app suck. It does not look as pretty as their speakers which is a shame
U on android or iOS?
Sounds better with the sub on
Very nice
The problem with the stupid sonos system which I have 5 amps latest gen is that you cannot set the crossovers there is no option so when you crank it up what you are hearing is distorsion at a frequency response close to 25 hertz. I rather have a real sub and get down to 13 hertz with a very low THD . Sonos is just good for the rest of the house to create multiple zones otherwise the sound is trash stay away unless you are in need of sevwral zones
It's a good product but soooo pricy
the sonos-man
Expensive subwoofer but warranty only 1year after that just throws in dustbin
Lost all credibility when you state placement will have absolutely no bearing on the sound - ridiculous
crap woofer i have only 500 w rms mids and hies and i dont hear no woofer and its plugged right
I hope they do a redesign of this sub that is:
1. Cheaper
2. No black bit in the middle. I want an all white design. Not this half and half crap.
3. Smaller maybe.
the subwoofer really sucks. no low end at all.
Hate sonos👎
I hate these walled gardens.
Overpriced, proprietary and a very cool design that you hide behind furniture,
Not in any way "overpriced".
whether it's overpriced or not is not a fact, it is opinion. Therefore I'd imagine you are both correct and both incorrect. 🤣 The sub is nice looking and good for some situations - it didn't meet the expectations I had, so I went to BK Elec and got something more capable for the size of main room I have.
Says a total noob
No sonos!Theives
ITS RUBBISH
I HAVE 2 SONOS SUBS AND ARC AND AMP
I DON’T ENJOY THE BASS.
IF YOU LIKE THE REAL PUNCHY BASS THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.
MY FRIEND USED HIS BRAIN AND MADE NICER SOUND THEN MY $5000 SYSTEM IN LESS THAN A $1000
DO NOT LISTEN TO THE HYPES.
DON’T YOU DARE DELETING MY COMMENT.SONOS HYPE IS MISLEADING.
Haha clearly u don't have any sonos u fool
Cambridge Audio? Lol. Seriously? If you said Linn, Naim or even someone like Klipsch, then I'd probably pay more attention to your ramble.
It looks ugly.
