Neighbors in Tennessee city worry as Amazon packages pile up outside home

- In a neighborhood near Chattanooga, Tennessee, one home stands out since it has hundreds of amazon packages spread across its lawn. A neighbor says new boxes arrive daily -and many of the ones outside are half full or empty. People who live in the area have contacted the police and city and written notes to the people who live in the home. So why are the packages piling up?
If I were considering buying a house in this neighborhood, seeing this would seal the deal for me. It’s got to be the safest neighborhood to live in theft wise

The crappy part about this is all those packages "are supposed to be returned for re-sale" after sitting out in the elements. These people need to tell their "friend " they are not equipped to handle this task obviously.

Basically these goods are shipped from China and then sorted at a "facility" like this one. See, legally it is no crime to have this kind of product so long as *you* are not selling it. Once it is delivered to the distribution center (typically old storage facilities in larger cities. Once they are here you then have 5-8 employees that will fence these goods all over the city. So crazy to see this as an open story on the news while affluent people complain about the boxes, completely unaware of it being an integral part of the chain... literally the distribution point from across the great pond, sitting in a suburban neighborhood.

That one women said that she’s trying to sell her house and is worried that it will look crazy. Here’s a tip, point out to the buyers that the community is so nice that all the packages are still here, and not stolen by now. It’s a big upside actually.
This house will be a target if criminals see this video. They will drive around looking for this house because of the approximation of where it is. Someone will find it. What once was a peaceful area now won’t be.

These packages wouldn't have lasted an hour outside in my old neighborhood 😳. They wouldn't have to worry about the city cleaning up. I remember coming outside 13 mins after my package was delivered by Amazon inside a locked gate to find it gone. Must be a great neighborhood.

This is the equivalent of not mowing your grass and letting it grow out like a foot. It looks messy and dirty and brings down the value of the house and those around it. Do you really want to move somewhere where the neighbors don’t take care of their yards? No, it’s messy and unappealing. Most importantly, as I mentioned, houses with dirty yards bring down the values of houses in that area, it’s real estate. You are devaluing your neighbors houses. Very disrespectful. Amazon should not be sending those packages to an individual house.

We're the kind of people who shovel everyone's driveways when it snows. We cleaned the gutters, planted Esther's garden and mowed her lawn for 11 years for free before she died. We just helped our elderly nextdoor neighbor rake her leaves to the road. None of our neighbors are slobs and we are all like a family.

For those who have no idea, this are items that was sold to the USA but was cancelled or returned for some reason. The sellers manufacturer is in another country most likely in china and it cost much to return it back. What happened is they pay someone a few thousand bucks, to receive all of this, serving as the ‘warehouse in USA’ but really just a person with an extra lot. then they pay someone to repack the package, then send it to amazon warehouse to be sold back again

The longer you keep things in at Amazons warehouse the more you pay so it's cheaper to send back somewhere and then ship it back under a different companies name. I worked for a Chinese guy out in San Diego for a year and granted he didn't have to ship stuff back to some random house as he had a warehouse there. We did this constantly to save a few bucks. Now if the items that needed to be shipped back we're pretty worthless or not a high return we'd have Amazon destroy

Aside from it being an eye sore, I'd be most concerned with what those packages wold be attracting including criminals, mold, rodents, bugs, and other pests. Wet cardboard is a breeding haven for the gross things of the earth.

It’s when the Chinese sellers have inventory in US warehouses and get banned. They can either have it thrown away or shipped to a warehouse where they will then re-barcode it and sell as a different seller. But the these major Chinese sellers don’t want to ship it all the way back to China and then back to the US, so they make a deal with someone in the US that will do it for a commission.
I saw a video recently where the woman bought mystery boxes from Amazon. I forget the wording, but it is made clear that these boxes contain returned ( and possibly used) merchandise.
Anyway, she opened 2 or 3 large boxes that were full of mostly low-end junk.

Money laundering.
Maybe some kind of Chinese money laundering operation, but as long as there isn’t food in the boxes attracting pests or lightweight boxes blowing around, I wouldn’t care. Amazon hasn’t shut it down so whatever it is must technically be legal.

Amazon runs a fulfillment center that holds, packages and distributes your product for a percentage of the sale. They run on an annual contractual basis, this is not some nefarious Chinese Triad money laundering operation =) Amazon must free up space plus the consigner is paying for those cubic feet every month, a lot cheaper to put em in uncle Bob's yard for the time being.

If they're letting the friend with a warehousing contract with amazon use their yard as extra warehouse space, why don't they or the friend put up a storage shed for the boxes? How long do they sit out in the elements getting damaged?

@suki suki Yeah. My comment was in the vein of if they’re being scammed I can see how that’d happen given the current conditions. But to your point, the utter disregard for care is definitely a big red flag that they’re, at minimum, a willful participant in some fuckery; if not the brain.
I was thinking the same thing . Get someplace to store them … or maybe this person was a great reviewer and that it’s Christmas time they want their packages reviewed ? I remember reading so many people’s reviews and they purchase nothing . Everything gets sent to them free . Not a bad gig you can’t honestly try everything out .what Ever they don’t get around to testing list it online and sell it and pay a person to do the job and perhaps donate the rest to needy families .. there is always a way to use what you have been blessed with to give back to others not so lucky
It could be fulfillment by Amazon damage/ return items. I used to work for a third party retailer and you can have damaged items returned. Amazon charges the sellers a disposal fee for damaged/ returned unsalable items. Amazon then packages those items up by the shipping container and sells it at auction. ( Off point but it always ticked me off on that they double/ triple dipped and the seller takes a power wash) the thing is the damage returns * can* still be of value but they need sorted and gone through. You wouldn't believe what boardgame parts, videogame manuals, case art, damaged pop figures and good condition boxes gora for. I could see that being the case here. Literally cheaper to pile the boxes up and let thieves take them all than to either have Amazon dispose of it or pay for a dumpster pickup.
I would care if it was TRASH, but since it's not who cares. I just know one thing Amazon better deliver my package to the correct house. Lol
It becomes trash. Rain ruins the cardboard and anything inside. Storms would blow stuff all down the street. Rodents will start to move in.

That is all well and good up to a point. I too would rather let people live. There are limits like when their "living" starts ruining your life. Respect goes both ways.
I’m all for freedom but if you’re freedom decreases my property value…..not so much into that level of freedom. Be considerate to your neighbor by not trashing your lawn is a great way to exercise freedom from clutter…
