Hi Joy-el! Your hair is beautiful! The length is amazing! It is so thick and healthy! Your hairstyle reminds me of the 70's! Farah Faucet from Charlie's Angels. Roller sets will never go out of style. Thank you for making this video!
I’ve been wanting to try a roller set blowout and I saw a stylist here on TH-cam recommend trying it on soaking wet hair and sitting under a hooded dryer.
I hàve been rolling my own hair as well as the whole family's hair for about 40+ years. I agree it should be wet hair. Plus the tension used when rolling makes a HUGE difference. I think a good idea would be to watch some Dominican stylists blow and roller set. I am fro Cape Town South Africa and rolling hair is our thing. We also blow dry very well. The closest to what we do is the Dominican stylists. We also blow dry using a round brush like they do but better..... More like Gillian Garcia does. When my ladies do my hair there is no need to flatiron.
@@CurlyCrowie Thanks for the tip. I’ll be checking out the Dominican stylists to see how they do it. I think a roller set would be a nice alternative to flat ironing.
This is such a success. It just needs to be brushed and lightly combed and shaped and you are golden. I have hair very similar to yours. Our hair is the ultimate blessing. Happy to see your growth. ✨
I think you did great! I would say: 1. Smaller sections. Literally double the number of sections you have until you get the tension right. 2. More tension when you are rolling. My hair isn’t nearly as thick as yours and it took me forever to learn how to get the correct amount of tension while rolling but it’s makes the world of difference. No amount of time under the dryer can sub in for good tension during the roller set. 3. Less product. I would say leave in and heat protection to blow dry. Then just mousse to wrap. And like 1 pump per section. You shouldn’t need to apply heat protection at every step especially since no direct heat is being used.
This! And may I also add: 4. Don’t use Velcro rollers. The ones with the fuzz can actually cause frizz and tangle. Try plastic rollers and pins under a dryer. Heated rollers are great too if your hair is already stretched
I agree with you about the direction of the hair rollers. Try rolling your hair in the opposite direction next time. You also may want to use slightly smaller rollers around your face. This might aid in creating curls that you can direct away from your face.
Your hair is so thick its amazing. I think if your hair was damp and you sat under a hooded drier youd get better results. Why not try going to a hairdresser for a roller set.
I think you did good. Next time I would use a heat protectant then rev air my hair . No mouse. After you rev air your hair. Apply a light coat of heat protectant serum and roller brush your hair with the revolve thermal brush or something similar. Put the rollers on your hair after each section you use the revolve thermal brush on. Leave the rollers in until your hair cools. Then remove the rollers. At night before you go to bed use flexi rods satin rollers to keep your blow out look. I hope my instructions make sense.
Loooooove your hair and don't beat yourself up...trial and error is a good thing. And it doesn't look bad at all. Smaller sections would be my only suggestion and some naturals give it a "light" press as well (totally optional). But smaller sections are the key.
Beautiful hair ❤ but this technique 😂 wth?? I believe you did too much with the mousse before blow drying 🤦🏽♀️ Surprisingly the end result wasn't bad at all
Not bad for your first time! Don’t worry you’ll get the hang of it. You can use The Doux on wet hair or after you used the Revair to set the rods. Keep practicing, you’ll get it ❤
I think once u get the hang of it and can roll them tighter to the roller ur gonna get really sleek results. This looks good for two first tries! I have a totally different method for roller setting my hair but it took me some time to master it, now it’s my favorite why to style my hair loose.
It came out amazing! Maintaining fullness and curl is hard the longer your hair grows out without using a iron. The blow drying machine is better and less intensive when using heat protectant. With that said, I hope this channel will have more travels and hobby's outside of haircare. I always wanted to travel to AZ doe a few days to travel but would love reference from locals on where to go.
Your hair is so long and thick! I guess smaller sections would define better, but maybe that would take you forever to do it 😂 anyways the final results are pretty, I like it ❤
Your voice is so cute it reminds me of a cartoon character. Ugh your density is so good. And your hair does resemble an anime character in this but in the best way possible! I’d say success!
Yeah I think I saw some hair in the curlers but just a little bit. She can probably afford to lose some density but I don't want to so I guess that's why someone suggested using the end papers with the curlers as well
I recommend watching TH-camrs supportivemom, allofdestiny or tierrajbeauty all have great rollerset videos for reference. Following a TH-cam video would be the best option to make sure it comes out correct the first time.
The mousse she's using for her hair by the way is also AMAZING FOR wash and gos and it smells amazing. I highly recommend. I use it myself Just dont use too much of it of course! 🥰
The way for that to work is to style those on wet sectioned hair. Smaller rollers are better. Use less product. For example: Shampoo, condition, LIGHT leave in, Tressemme heat protector then roll the hair away from face and upside down, not under(or it'll look like Peppermint Patty). Sit under a hooded dryer until dry. Mousse is bad, it make the hair stiff and crunchy. But not bad as a first timer.
Your hair has grown so much. It's GORGEOUS! I noticed your rollers are made out of velcro-like material. I have used them before and they damaged my hair. My beautician told me to quit using them. I would suggest using a different roller to be on the safe side. 😊
Hi Joyel. You have beautiful hair. If you're looking for a video on a great technique for the rollers, I'd recommend this video: th-cam.com/video/hta--VR991k/w-d-xo.html . They do a really good job of stretching out the natural hair
I used to do wet sets (use rollers) when my hair was relaxed. The tighter the hair is pinned around the roller the smoother the curls will be. If too much hair is wrapped around one roller, the hair will be puffy and frizzy - even on relaxed hair. I would suggest trying it again with more rollers and using large bobby pins to hold the hair around the rollers. Clips did not hold my hair tight enough around the roller. I commend your creativity and experimentation. Thank you for sharing your ideas. I would like to straighten my strands with rollers. My one attempt was a fail.
Not sure what you were trying to achieve. If you were trying to get a blow-out look why are you stretching it first (essentially a blowout)? To do that you would simply roll your wet, not dripping wet, hair TIGHTLY on the rollers and either air dry or sit under a hooded dryer. I was completely confused as to what you were trying to do. A roller set would look fab on you but you need smaller rollers and tighter technique.
I was copying the process used in the Instagram video (I included a snippet of it in the video). I stretched it so I had more length to work with. I'll do better next time. Sorry 😔

You have a beautiful head of hair. You have come so far! 👏👏👏 Have you ever tried hot rollers? That might work for you. I am on the same journey trying to find a safe way to straighten and roller set my hair without flat ironing.
I liked your hair. I do roller sets all the time. I use the magnetic rollers. The smaller the roller, the tighter the curl. For your length of hair, i probably would use that 3rd size roller all the way around. I usually air dry most of the way then i only have to sit under hooded dryer about 30 minutes. I do not use a heat protectant, just curl creme. Your hair is beautiful! Definitely try your roller set again. Tfs.
I don't understand putting the mousse with heat protectant on top, and then blow drying. I was thining you were gonna put the mousse on then put the rollers in. 🤔 Wait, so you're blow drying it again? It's already straight, though? 😳
If you want to do a roller set on dry hair, start with freshly washed and deep conditioned hair. Then, use the rev air with no other product on the hair. Then, section out the hair. Use curling cream(like the one from Lustrasilk)and a curling iron to form the curls, then use the velcro rollers with roller papers wrapped around the roller and roll the hair in the direction you want it to go. Hope this helps. Beautiful hair, Joy-El🎉❤ (Matt 10:30)

When you pulled out the rev air, I got totally confused. Why didn't you just use the rev air to blow out the hair? Anyway, your hair is thick healthy and gorgeous!
