The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in the world put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel inssecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. I knew this mv was going to be excellent, but I didn't expect it to move we all like this. The tenderness (almost innocence?) between them was so disarming. And then the hopelessness of it all... I was so immersed that I could feel their fear and despair.. V and IU's acting and chemistry are so excellent. I loved the fact that Taehyung was not the stereotypical fearless male lead. That man was terrified (he acted it so well!!) and that made everything, including his moment of bravery, feel even more real.

I think it's about life and it's inevitable end. For me when I saw people clothes outside that building it was like people who died before be able to find true love and that pile of clothes were for those who possibly found that camera could enjoy life despite the fact that everything look awful. That camera was that quality that some people have that can enjoy everything, can taste the sweet even with bitterness.And the end and death was a necessity that catch them and although it is sad but them facing it together is what that counts and has meaning. For me it was like we love each other until death apart us.

to me, the people in masks, just meant to me, that because these two were making up a scenario in their heads, as doom in upon them, their faces doesn't matter. just like in a memory, you don't remember the people around you. you just remember the two of you. but it could also represent some type of more hostile enemy, that these two tries to have fun despite haters being after them trying to ruin their moment. HOWEVER the most important message has to be the most easy one: simply that a pure love, was not allowed to be, and is taken away. who is doing it, why is doing it - does that really matter at the core? their love ended because they weren't allowed to be with each other. you can theorize with WHO it is forever. but i think IU wanted to say something simple.
we live in a crazy world. and idols live in a world where they are not allowed to love, without hate. but no one can stop a real love. so whoever you love, will this love stay with you throughout dark times till the end? i think that's all.

In this video, the woman is mute, the man is blind in one eye. In my opinion, this video tells the story of their love life, which they are trying desperately to protect amidst various threats. This could also mean that their love is not approved by the world. but despite all the obstacles, love is all. love is everything. love always wins.

Some other bits of information as well as my own thoughts on the MV…
the song lyrically is dedicated to IU’s fans who have accompanied her through out all the highs and lows according to the letter she released before this release. Her letter was very touching. It’s also according to her letter a message that in the age of hate, love truimphs and is always more powerful.
I’ve included the key points that IU’s agency released the morning after this was released to media from their official MV interpretation guide from the director at the end of my comment (my comment is my initial thoughts and reactions before reading the interpretation guide.)
For those who want to know the ‘official’ intended meaning of MV feel free to skip and scroll to the end of my comment.
It’s so interesting to see how wrong some of us were in our interpretations and how right some of us were in terms of interpretation or what they intended to show… for example picking up on the fact that Tae is partially sighted and that IU has verbal difficulties… with the use of sign language and I was pleased that some of the points I was right on but I totally didn’t pick up on the ending being positive actually… and ‘freeing them from oppression and pressure’. I thought it was a sad ending initially. It’s so interesting to rewatch the MV after reading the official interpretation guide too. I think it’s a good lesson on our very preconceived ideas of love. I also love that you picked up on the scene you were seeing not being real.
Personally when I first watched it… the MV moved me to tears. The song was intricately and exquisitely beautiful… IU’s Vocals gave me goosebumps. The subtlety in the acting was perfection and the visuals by both… just wow. Tae in all his sweetness, softness and gentleness was honestly the definition of prettiness. There was something so beautifully vulnerable and delicate about him, that touched my soul.
In terms of the meaning (in addition to what was included in the interpretation guide)… In the Korean press releases of this song used in all the articles a few days ago… IU said that: ‘I want to respect and support everyone who loves and lives in various ways with love rather than hate’ this and the statement released before when the song was called Love Wins was released, which talked about people who face prejudices and obstacles in love… Personally make me think that it’s showing that many people in love face stigma’s and obstacles for whatever reason in life for things that they are born with and have no control over. Personally I think when they look through the camera they see the perfect world in which everyone can live without the lens of hate where people don’t see you or judge you for your stigma’s or labels but they see the whole you. Another thing that I find beautiful with the sign language involved is that both IU and Tae have a history of sign language. IU with her ear condition and Tae has communicated in official sign language many times (his birthday is even celebrated by some of the deaf community in S.K).
I also feel the box was representing the hate that tears people down and strips them of their humanity out of prejudice. Personally I feel there was a wider message in this MV and feel that Tae very specifically chose to appear in this MV because of the message. I’ve lost count of times over the years where he has said he would like to side with the marginalised or the minority in life. From the creation of his drawn characters in numerous content, to his BT21 character, to his fairytale character he chose in the 7th Army Zip content that was tragically killed for being different. I feel like this MV very much fits with that ethos of representing and identifying with the marginalised in society. Also I think the message that love allows us to see the world with a healing and whole lens too. When IU sings ‘all love wins’ in amongst the lyrics I got goosebumps. After all ALL love is love.
This MV for me was very much Art. And the song was so beautiful. Bravo IU and Tae. Thanks for this reaction! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

The gorgeous IU has created an anthem of love for all time. It's a true masterpiece. Everything in this music video is beautiful, right down to the dust on the tables. It's pure art. The song is so sensual and sublime. The interactions between IU and V in the music video are amazing.

The remarkable thing about this marketing strategy (mv pre-released ahead of the streaming audio platform) is that the imagery of the mv will be forever burnt to the listener’s mind when they listen only to the song afterwards without the mv. Genius but not many artists can afford it.
