Hi Maggie, that water was freezing, I had my feet in it for about 3 mins and it was hurting! So hats off to Brian! One day I will venture in? Thanks for the comment ATB
Under control or not, campfires with naked flames are illegal in the Lake District National Park. Read the LDNPA regulations. How much grass would be left if countless thoughtless people just lit campfires all over the place. Do they clean up the ash and re-sow the ground with new grass seed prior to leaving?
Was up at Mardale head last weekend. Very beautiful place. Got well and truly soaked on way back down from high street though. Remember seeing that area where you camped and thinking it'd be a good spot for it. Wish it was a bit quieter though, as you say a very popular place.
Hi yes it is the weather was perfect. Like you I have never spent any time in that location as well. We got to the car park really early ad it was still packed! Thank you for the comment, stay safe.🙏
No lucky this one is one of the few car parks which does not charge, however it is very popular so I would recommend you getting there early! It’s not that big either so a few camper vans can fill it up rather quickly! Thanks for the comment 🙏
Warning about some car parks in the lakes, be careful as the cameras start your time in the car parks the moment you drive into them not once you get your ticket, make sure you always return to your car and exit the car park with at least 5 mins left from the time you drove passed the gates into them. Lots of people, have been caught out with this and had to pay way more in fines.
I came across this looking for something else, I was the manager at the Haweswater Hotel for two years, wild camping is not permitted in The Lake District unless you have the express permission of the landowner and I doubt that United Utilities or the RSPB would give permission around Haweswater, similarly no matter what you may think never go swimming in the reservoir, there are snags and tree stumps under water from when the reservoir was built and the water is very cold all year round. Mobile phone signal around Haweswater is pretty much nonexistent so if you get into trouble out there it is very difficult to contact emergency services, when you can they will take considerable time to reach you as the single-track roads limit speed, it's a beautiful place but it can bite you really hard if you don't respect it.
Wild camping at Haweswater - and anywhere else in the Lake District - is illegal. You were on land owned by United Utilities. Until not long ago, you would be camped in an area under 24 hour observation by the RSPB, because a pair of nesting Golden Eagles were nearby. The RSPB built a hide, specifically to observe the eagles, as they are a protected species......... If they had still been there, and they'd seen you, it could have meant a spot of bother for you....
Watched most of your posts and have enjoyed them but bit disappointed with this one for a couple of reasons. Pitched far too low and far too early. Haweswater is being damaged by inconsiderate party campers -not saying for a minute that's you or Brian as I know you are definitely of the leave no trace ilk, however this type of vlog will only encourage less responsible 'campers'. Regards Ian.
Great video, beautiful place, that was a steep climb. Braver than me Brian jumping in that water. Uk did so well in Eurovision Sam was awesome.

Do you have to pay to park your car overnight?
