    I bought the Casper pillow, to go with my casper mattress, and as a side sleeper I hate it. it doesn't support my head. Not really a fan of putting my arm under my pillow, but its the only way i get enough support. I like Casper, but I'm straying away since it doesn't meet my 'side sleeper' needs.

      Hey Wendy. Check out Coop Home Goods Eden Pillow you'll never hurt again. If you have a memory foam bed that you sink into you'll wanna take out a lot of the fluff. It's amazing I get them for everyone. Buy from the company website cause they give you free fill if you need it to be fluffier. Also go for standard size or even travel size is perfect size (not the same fill but the regular fill works well as well) because the queen size is huge. I have standard also and it is way bigger than your typical pillow. Google for coupons to get some money off of the total but legit it is WORTH the investment. Just buy it and say eff everything else lol you'll forgive yourself in a few days I promise. Good luck!

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Ally - I hear that! Every pillow is different, of course, but I like to pay attention to warranties to get an idea of each one's durability. For example, Tempur-Pedic pillows are backed by a 5-year warranty because the brand knows they're built to last. On a personal note, I've been sleeping with the Saatva Dreams pillow for two years, my partner has been sleeping with the Avocado Green pillow for two years, and both are still perfectly supportive. Essentially, there's no hard and fast rule around lifespan because every pillow is so different. But I will say that, in my experience, quality tends to cost a little extra. For me, it's better to spend $100 every 3 years or so than spend $40 every 6 months. Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

    and what about heat retention which memory foam is notorious for. Which pillow stays comfortable and not hot?

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're not wrong about that! That's why, as a hot sleeper myself, I aim for shredded memory foam (like we see in the Layla, SpineAlign, and Nest Bedding pillows featured here). The shreds of foam are able to move independently within the pillow, allowing for more breathability - and therefore better cooling. However, the Bear Pillow is covered in icy-cool Phase Change Material, making it the coolest overall. It's filled with a proprietary blend of polyfoam called Loft-X which was designed to be body conforming like memory foam, but have the bouncy resilience of latex. So, in general, I suggest shredded memory foam for better cooling. But if you're looking for solid foam, give the Bear Pillow a try!

    Side sleeper who puts arm under pillow that prefers soft pillows cant stand firm pillows.
    The one pillow brand I usually buy I'm guessing is being poorly made now because the pillows keep flattening to the point where I cant sleep right which is something I never had a problem with the same pillows with years ago.
    What would you suggest?

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Red Raider! I know what you mean - I also prefer a shapeable pillow that I can slip an arm under when I'm on my side. In general, side sleepers do need a firmer level of support to maintain healthy posture. However, if you give yourself enough loft, you don't need a super firm pillow. If I were you, I'd try the back/side sleeper pillow by Pillow Guy, and/or the Casper pillow. Both offer a fluffy, down-alternative feel and a soft-medium level of firmness. But, you can still slide your arm under and bunch either of these pillows up to reach the loft that keeps your body most comfortable. Remember: in order to keep a neutral spine, try to keep your ears in line with your shoulders, and your chin in line with your sternum. Thanks for reaching out, and let us know what you end up with!

      Hey there! Unfortunately, I would not recommend it for stomach sleepers. It’s got a very high loft and a fluffy fill which is best suited to side sleepers. Although, because it’s adjustable, you could technically remove the internal fill until it’s low enough so that your head isn’t craned upwards. However, you’d have to remove a considerable amount of fill. I suggest you check out my Best Pillows for Stomach Sleepers review so you can get a better idea of which pillows fit this specific sleep style!

      That's a tough one. I'd have to go with the Layla as I love a super lofty build. Additionally, the shredded memory foam offers a nice sink into the material, but because it's shredded, it's still got some good fluff-ability as well. I will say that the Bear Pillow definitely sleeps the coolest - so if you're a hot sleeper, that might be your best bet. And remember, all of these pillows come with trial periods so, if you pick one and you're not crazy about it, just send it back and keep on searching! Good luck, and happy sleeping.

      I switch my positions throughout the night too, which makes it particularly hard to find a pillow that suits me. I tried Layla, it's pretty good. But I recently got a contour memory foam pillow, branded PILO, on Amazon. It's thinner in the middle and loftier on the sides, which suits me very well as a side/back sleeper. It also has a built-in stereo system that I use to play soft music, white noise and ASMR audio to help me fall asleep. Not sure if that’d be your thing but definitely worth checking out.

      Hi venecia2834! Glad you enjoyed the review :) Now, I suggest sleeping on a King size Layla pillow. The standard Layla pillow is already one of the loftiest pillows in the game (and that plush, high loft is going to releive pressure in your shoulder), but the King size will take that pressure relief a few steps further. This is my #1 recommendation for side sleepers with shoulder pain. It does come with a trial period, so give it a try and let me know what you think!

    Any suggestions for a side-sleeper that wears a full face cpap mask? I tried invested hundreds of $$ and am still looking.

      Hey Donald - Can you tell me more about the pillows you've tried so far? What did you find to be the main problem with them?

    A high loft for side sleepers is the worst!

      @illselah 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. It's a killer on the neck. Although if you're a tall person with broad shoulders then it may be appropriate.

    Question for you Sarah. I need a new pillow. I am predominately a side sleeper, sometimes back. I sleep hot and need something cooling, but I am not a fan of solid memory phone (open to the idea of shredded foam). I have been watching a lot of videos and am having trouble finding one that ticks all those boxes. Also, we just got a purple mattress and the sheets, so would I still feel the cooling benefits of the pillow using the purple pillow cases? I know standard pillow cases kinda block the cooling, but I know purples are quite a bit different.

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Donald :) Firstly, the Purple sheets are bamboo-based and very breathable. No matter the pillow you choose, Purple pillowcases are so light and airy, they aren't thick enough to obstruct a pillow's cooling properties in a major way. That said, if you got a pillow covered in cooling phase change material, you might find that you enjoy sleeping on the cover fabric without a pillowcase. In this video, did the Layla pillow appeal to you? It's filled with shredded memory foam (more breathable than solid memory foam), and is ideal for back/side sleepers. It also has copper woven into the cover fabric to help draw heat away from your head. I'd give the Layla a try if I were you!

      @@Sleepopolis it did look great, only thing that concerned me was the loft seemed massive, and I do occasionally sleep on my back. I may still give that a try though since they have the trial period. Thanks for getting back to me!

    Going on about 31 yrs with same pillow I will never give up because for some reason, they are making these pillows, today, too big. I am 5F1.2” and I do NOT need a supersize pillow. I buy so many and none are small enough. The higher it goes, the more my neck cricks. I have spent hundreds on one and less then thirty. But none work. SORRY. lol

    i sleep side and back tho, should i just use a side pillow for both?!

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rich! It is often the case that back and side sleepers can use one pillow for both of those positions, yes. Stomach sleeping is a little trickier as you need a pillow with lower loft in order to maintain spine alignment. But the SpineAlign, Layla, Casper, and Avocado are all great examples of pillows that support folks who alternate between back and side sleeping! Thanks for reaching out, and let us know what you end up with!

    I don't understand why all these pillow reviews recommend a high loft for side sleepers. I only sleep on my side and HATE a high loft. I wake up in the middle of the night almost crying from neck pain if I use a lofty pillow. The best pillows I've had were almost flat. I can't imagine any pillow with a high loft being comfortable for a smaller side sleeper. High loft pulls your neck up at a horrible angle. Not for me. I just want a pillow I don't slide down off of in the middle of the night. 🙄

    What if i told you that you could revive ur old fluffed out, puffy pillow and restore the firmness and the tightness of the foam all you need to do is just fuff youre pillow the basic method once youre done puffing up ur pillow as much as it allows i want you to then pinch all four of the pillows corners and tuck them inwardly into the edges of ur pillow u should also fold all four sides inwardly use ur fingers to mould straight line edges youl notice your pillow becomes tighter and more puffed up and youl have a good night sleep without having to fluff ur pillow during the night trust me try it for yourself dont thank me i just want to read about your experience using my methed to restore the fluff of your old pillow ofcoz this method works best with a brand new pillow
