Observing the birds: 2 years ago while fishing a lake in central BC, my wife and I were rowing the lake looking for signs of fish. We are both avid birders. At one point my wife says to me, “hey, those are fly catchers”. Fly catchers I say. There they were perched on branches and launching out to snag a snack. I said “caddis time”. Got into 1 hour of terrific dry fly fishing. Yes, it pays to observe what is going on both on and above the water.
