The funny thing is, while you people are complaining about how the riff is so simple and straightforward, and how he doesn't deserve the endorsement for playing stuff like this and all, he and his band are having the time of their lives touring after making a serious statement with this song and its album. It's okay, keyboard warriors; you guys can sit at home and whine about all sorts of shit while they enjoy the fame and fortune they deserve (:

I don't know why people are putting this song down for its simplicity. Because something is simple, doesn't make it bad. There's many famous rock songs the are just as simple if not more. What should be a true judge of whether or not something is good or not is the heart that the artists put into it. From all that I've seen, Shinedown is a band that puts all their heart into a record to try and get their point across without holding back. For me, that's the mark of a true musician. Any day I would choose a simple song that's filled with heart than a complicated song that was developed to only make money.

Simple caveman riffs can be catchy and make great music, Zack Wylde made a whole career out of it. It doesn’t have to be virtuoso level to be enjoyed. I think polyphia is neat but it’s not what I want to listen too. It’s just another way to do it.

  • @cgseanriker

Sometimes the simplest art is the most effective. Because something is complicated or difficult to play does not make it good.
Shinedown has been my band since Leave a Whisper and I very much enjoyed Cut the Cord. I'm definitely looking forward to the new album!

As much as I love hard and complicate riffs, I think Shinedown's new riffs are amazing. I trust that they are doing what they believe is right for their songs. Its their decision about what they want in their song regardless if its easy or not. If an easy riff and one guitar is what they want their style to be, then I honor that. Simplicity isn't stupid. A lot of people don't realize that.

For people complaining about this band they were named #1 on Billboard top mainstream rock chart of 40 years. They have the best vocalist Brent and Zach can play anything has proved it with all the covers they do. Eric is more than a base player he plays piano and produces music & Barry just is a beast on drums. All nice guys I've met them multiple times!!

    • @danyeo
      @danyeo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ehh, ignore the haters. Lot's of that may be sore guitar players pissed off they never made it. Hey, I'm one of those guys, I've been playing in clubs since 1990. I learned Paul Gilbert and Yngwie lead licks that never got me anywhere but I had fun doing it. I played in original bands and cover bands and had fun. Sure having a great singer helps but a LOT of guitar players forget that WRITING a song is often the hardest part, and writing a song that doesn't suck. I like Shinedown for the vocals obviously but I like their songs. If I want to hear a million notes I'll check out Dream Theater but often just a solid kick ass rock song like this works for what I want to hear. So listen to what you want and ignore the Aholes.

On simple songs, I like playing them time to time, not everything must be complex to be good. Seems like with simple songs, it invites the musician to feel the song, which counts for something.

Yes it might be simple but music doesnt have to have a million notes at a million miles an hr to be good Sometimes less is more and for this i think thats the case. It lets the lyrics and rest of the music speak for itself. I love his playing and he is a very good player. He has a groove to his playing that i love.

Simple and effective riffs but the tone of his guitar is really weird for this demonstration. Glad to see a guitarist give an accurate playthrough like this and I know they turn him up so we can hear the guitar better but it just sounds so weird when the song mix is off like this.

+Ima WreckU Man that tone is sweet. Best choice to do a playthrough, not much gain and just enough middles to make it cut through the mix and all notes clear to hear for the the listener.

The bass player wrote it.... of course it's all mostly on one string, lol! I still love it, though! It just goes to show that great music doesn't need to be difficult or complicated to play!

Is it standard tuning or Drop D? It can't be both.

Anthony Norton He meant it's standard but with the 6th string tuned to d making it drop D. So its drop D. :)

I can completely see why he referenced standard tuning before he said Drop D. Take into account the fact that most people going to a TH-cam video to learn a song probably aren't the most musically advanced out there, so redundancy may be needed. Get off your high horse.

I knew what he meant. But not everyone would. The words he used tripped me up.

It doesn't have to be complex or flashy to be good. I bet this isn't their best riff but still. Besides who listens to just the guitar for shinedown? Listen to the song normally. It sounds better

Zach is a outstanding player, this was really cool of him to do this vid. PRS guitars kill, the se's are sweet, but any standard 22, or better 24, should do the trick. When he said song was in standard drop d, i was surprised; it sounded very heavy and downtuned. BTW, "Drop D" profile is just concerned with low e string, that's why he said about standard drop whatever. Guitar noobs quit wacking it and play and learn and quit posting your opinion, that said I'm out.
