Lost my job and became depressed. Started listening to Shinedown every day, got my new job and have been killing it. These songs keep me going and bettering myself! Amazing how songs can change your life!

Glad everything worked out well for you, and hope you are still killing it!
Congratulations! Love me some Shinedown! A higher calling, if you know what I mean
To the confused: This song is not telling you to go cut yourself or end your life. It is saying that you need to drop the toxic people in you life who are only bringing you sadness and destructive thoughts by their negitivity (and yes I know I spelled it wrong)
The real question is why you are telling us that you spelled it wrong and didn't corect it(and yes i know I spelled it wrong).
Oh wait
Thank you! Yes it one year later😜

When the drummer has to do some neck stretches before they start, you know it's about to be a dope jam.
Shinedown is number one on the planet to me. They never disappoint . I am almost 70 and will rock til I die.
There is nothing stronger than a broken man who has rebuilt himself.
This.

6 months clean off of a number of heavy drugs tomorrow. Longest I’ve ever been sober since 14yrs old. Songs like this just add to the support and strength.
Keep it up and congratulations!!
Good job. Congrats.
I got 1 year clean and I never thought ow as possible either. I Also started the hard shit at 14
Jesse Burke You too, congrats!! Stay strong and keep it up!
Hey man, hope you're still goin strong. Hang in there brother, I'm right there fightin' next to ya ✊
Awesome! Congrats 🙌🏻
The song that me and my brothers used to carried our mother to her final resting place! Thank you so much Shinedown for giving this world the very passionate version of a great song, 14 years ago. R.I.P Mum!
I've seen shinedown about 8 times and didn't realize till this last time that they sing mostly about anti suicide and self harm and I love them even more. I'm 37 yrs old and can't believe how blind I was to the lyrics but shinedown is so great! They are to me what the rolling stones are to my dad and their shows are always awesome and get better every time.
I agree their music is life-changing! I'm 58 and have loved them since 45 came out ❤️
There's a reason behind their brilliance.
7 years sober last month. CAN I GET A WITNESS?!?! 🙏🏼🤘🏼

Let me tell you, I'm vicious
Not pass-aggressive
I got my finger on my pulse, staring straight into a hole and I'ma get it
And I'm a savage
It's automatic
I got a way of making noise, the power to destroy with no static
Now victory is all you need
So cultivate and plant the seed
Hold your breath and count to ten, just count to ten
I'm gonna make it rain, so ring the bell
I know it all too well
Switchblade on the edge of your wrist
Can I get a witness? (witness)
'Cause agony brings no reward
For one more hit and one last score
Don't be a casualty, cut the cord
cut the cord
(Freedom, la la la la)
(Freedom)
You gotta feel courage
Embrace possession
If it was easier to shatter everything that ever mattered
But it's not, because it's your obsession
Be a fighter, backbone, desire
Complicated and it stings, (but we both know what it means)
And it's time to get real and inspired
Now victory is all you need
So cultivate and plant the seed
Hold your breath and count to ten, just count to ten, just count to ten
I'm gonna make it rain, so ring the bell
I know it all too well
Switchblade on the edge of your wrist
Can you witness (witness)
'Cause agony brings no reward
For one more hit and one last score
Don't be a casualty, cut the cord

I love when they vibe to their own music like yes! Show that this is what u love to do!!
This is one of those songs that you may not know it by the sound, but watch the video. Everything about this just screams that they knew that they had hit onto something rock solid, something big, the moment they put it together. Like I see the number of hits it has and I'm amazed it doesn't have 10 times as many. Perhaps timing of release. Still, this hits all the right notes, good clear message, and is just plain done well. A classic example of an instant hit.
Barry's dreads flingin' around and the absolutely insane amount of drum override in the mixing make this one of those songs that could wake the dead.
“Cut the cord” is a statement to the world that you will not give up, you will not give in, and you refuse to fail.
In a 'modern' world where "Waa Waa, Boo Hoo" is prevalent, and soft-cocks prevail. Some people will still dig deep and drive hard to get the job done. To those people and to this band, I say Thank You.
Lol... cut the cord is more of a “stop it once and for all”
Beautiful thing about music is, all the replies are right. And it shows the brilliance of a song that it was interpret so many ways. Until the writer tells what they meant with lyrics, it's all up for interpretation. Although the lead guy does suffer from addiction (recovering, not active I believe) so the "stop using" seems to be the most plausible meaning for them. "Cause agony brings no reward
For one more hit and one last score
Don't be a casualty, cut the cord"
How ever way you interpret song, there is no wrong way, as all of us go through different things in our lives. If this song helps you, then it did it’s job.

There's very, very little music post 2004, give or take, that I can stomach. Everything sounds the same, and is pure trash for the most part, no matter the genre. But I love Shindown. Their music is inspiring and good to workout to.

Songs like this are why I love Shinedown. From being suicidally depressed, but holding on for someone to reach out to them (.45), to a song dedicated to Brent's wife (If You Only Knew), to rising above being targeted for verbal torture (Bully), to now encouraging self mutilators to acknowledge that they are worth more than the marks on their arms and wrists (Cut the Cord). They always have a positive message for today's young generation.
Rawk4Life Dude I totally feel you, you are completely right. Im 13 and I love their songs! :P
Ty Foss I wish more people your age recognized talent like Shinedown.
I feel you man I'm 12 and I love their songs not only because they sound good but because they also have a good meaning
Rawk4Life Well said...Brent and the band would be so proud to know their messages are being heard through their music, because at the end of the day if a song can save or help a life what more can you say .That is amazing.
***** Indeed. While Shinedown wasn't around in the 90's, imagine how many teen suicides might have been prevented if there had been at least 1 positive mainstream band for every 5 bands that sang about life's struggles, but offered no solutions?
My 6 year old son loveees Shinedown ! And I’m proud momma ❤

This song has saved me so many times. I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one. Cut the cord.
Most everyone is talking about drug or alcohol addictions and i am very proud of the ones who have overcome them and are clean and have the strength to post about it so i decided to post mine. I am now 2 years clean of self harming and i have never felt more proud. Have a good day whoever comes across my comment
3 years clean from meth. We do recover.
Congratulations!
I’m talking about my addiction to masterbating and it’s hard to quit and it’s a shit load of hell. I feel like I just can’t quit like whatever i do it just kicks me harder the more I try to quit. What the hell do I do????
@@GentlemenJack109 Try getting a hobby or something. For example lifting weights, each time you feel the urge to do that just go bust out some weights to help keep it out of your mind. Maybe that will help you build up mental toughness against it. You can also see a therapist and they will help you to overcome your addiction.
Well done mate ☺️
My cousin fought through to sobriety and held the line for years. He was found dead in his apartment. Toxicology came back pure as the fuckin snow. He was early 30s. He died victorious.

Shinedown is definitely one of the best bands of Modern day!!
I hate modern music except for shinedown. They’re my favorite band
The drummer is fucking Awesome, he had that down to a tee.The band is Amazing.
Barry is extremely talented. He's underrated! To be fair the whole band is..
Barry is the absolute sweetest. I told him my twin boys love their band, asks me what their names are and says "One sec, I'm a leftie and don't want to mess this up". Puts one of the pic/posters I had, flips it over and writes a note to my 2 boys, and signs it again. They are all such wonderful people as well as musicians. So glad my kids gravitate towards bands like this. 💜
When you’re in a mood & nothing like angry music helps you!!!
Agreed. It is therapy. Every human is still primal inside, at one time we were all "Savages" in one way or another. Having a few savage moments is nature if not necessary. I think of finding a new awesome song, like discovering fire. :)

THIS SONG HAS FAILED IT'S PURPOSE
IT'S A TRAP !

They are talking about drugs not music
@@AliFareedMC Actually I'm not wrong. The song is about all kind of addiction, not just drug addiction. Yes, it is the main tone, but addiction comes in all forms. Drug, Alcohol, Gaming, Music (yes, this is real) or Smoking.

Not really. There IS a such thing as positive addiction. I’m addicted to making my fiancée loved and cared for on a daily basis
The song is about leaving behind things that hold you back in life. Hence, cutting the cord. Addiction can be one of those things, but really it applies to all negativity.

13 years 3 months 15 days of kicking the habit, this is so my kiss off song to my old life.
This song is awesome, and above all it has a very important meaning: we can fit it to our different personal situations (drugs, alcohol, toxic people etc...) but in the end,we should respect ourselves enough to sever the boundaries that harm us. Even when it makes us feel "guilty"or "bad", it's actually the right thing to do.
A lot of people post their struggles and that this song is reminder that they can overcome that for me it is my weight I am currently on a massive weight loss journey and I am currently down 436 from 470 and this is one of the main songs I workout to it gives me power it gives me inspiration.

Here's what I love about Shinedown.... when they do a new song/album/single release like this.... they like to try new things, and tweak their style a little so it sounds slightly new and different so that we don't get bored.... but it still sounds like Shinedown.... they are good at that balance
Music no matter where it comes from can be a cure itself.

I feel like this is about any kind of an addiction. Drugs, alcohol, and even narcissist people. Sometimes you just have to cut that cord and move on like the song says. 😊
You can extend this to anything. I take it as if you want something then go for it "don't be a casualty"
Indeed, it is about any kind of cord cutting, even the energetic ones that can not be seen.
