Lost my job and became depressed. Started listening to Shinedown every day, got my new job and have been killing it. These songs keep me going and bettering myself! Amazing how songs can change your life!
6 months clean off of a number of heavy drugs tomorrow. Longest I’ve ever been sober since 14yrs old. Songs like this just add to the support and strength.
The song that me and my brothers used to carried our mother to her final resting place! Thank you so much Shinedown for giving this world the very passionate version of a great song, 14 years ago. R.I.P Mum!
In a 'modern' world where "Waa Waa, Boo Hoo" is prevalent, and soft-cocks prevail. Some people will still dig deep and drive hard to get the job done. To those people and to this band, I say Thank You.
Beautiful thing about music is, all the replies are right. And it shows the brilliance of a song that it was interpret so many ways. Until the writer tells what they meant with lyrics, it's all up for interpretation. Although the lead guy does suffer from addiction (recovering, not active I believe) so the "stop using" seems to be the most plausible meaning for them. "Cause agony brings no reward For one more hit and one last score Don't be a casualty, cut the cord"
How ever way you interpret song, there is no wrong way, as all of us go through different things in our lives. If this song helps you, then it did it’s job.
This song is telling you instead of ending your life, or doing something stupid, stand up to life and ignore the haters gotta learn to say fuck what they say!!
Songs like this are why I love Shinedown. From being suicidally depressed, but holding on for someone to reach out to them (.45), to a song dedicated to Brent's wife (If You Only Knew), to rising above being targeted for verbal torture (Bully), to now encouraging self mutilators to acknowledge that they are worth more than the marks on their arms and wrists (Cut the Cord). They always have a positive message for today's young generation.
Rawk4Life Well said...Brent and the band would be so proud to know their messages are being heard through their music, because at the end of the day if a song can save or help a life what more can you say .That is amazing.
***** Indeed. While Shinedown wasn't around in the 90's, imagine how many teen suicides might have been prevented if there had been at least 1 positive mainstream band for every 5 bands that sang about life's struggles, but offered no solutions?
I've seen shinedown about 8 times and didn't realize till this last time that they sing mostly about anti suicide and self harm and I love them even more. I'm 37 yrs old and can't believe how blind I was to the lyrics but shinedown is so great! They are to me what the rolling stones are to my dad and their shows are always awesome and get better every time.
I'm prolly about your dad's age. I'm 66 and I've seen the Stones and I've seen Shinedown. They both bring it. But Shinedown is IMO far and away, the better band. So sue me. 🤷

The four of them are four of my favorite humans ever! My husband and I have been to so many Shinedown and Smith & Myers shows and it will never get old! If you haven't been, please try to go. You won't regret it because they put on one hell of a show. We just saw Smith and Myers in Memphis a few weeks ago and Zach's other band (Allen, Mack, Myers, and Moore) opened. It's always gonna be a good time with any of those guys! If you go to a Shinedown show, one of my favorite things to see is watching Eric go nuts on this song! I love it everytime. He is the oldest of the four them, but when he starts bouncing around, it's just a whole other level of enjoying life. He's just a few years older than me and I just wished I could jump like that! 😄 I feel that way every time we see them live but that's just one of those elevated moments of their shows that you just need to experience.
Great motivational song for me, just hit 2 years sober and gotta give a lot of thanks to this song for empowering me to keep pushing! Powerful voice and just a great song in general, great gym song also!! Thanks again guys!
Let me tell you, I'm vicious Not pass-aggressive I got my finger on my pulse, staring straight into a hole and I'ma get it And I'm a savage It's automatic I got a way of making noise, the power to destroy with no static Now victory is all you need So cultivate and plant the seed Hold your breath and count to ten, just count to ten I'm gonna make it rain, so ring the bell I know it all too well Switchblade on the edge of your wrist Can I get a witness? Agreed. It is therapy. Every human is still primal inside, at one time we were all "Savages" in one way or another. Having a few savage moments is nature if not necessary. I think of finding a new awesome song, like discovering fire. :)
6 years later....this song is so amazing and gets you through depression and rises you up to be stronger than you once were, inspired to keep at life and get above what is going on and beat it 😍
Oh yeah haha, it was a stormy night when I went, and there was a lightning bolt that went across the sky at the perfect time during sound of madness it was great
Every now and then I'll play this song over my stereo system as loud as it'll go and rock out like I'm at an actual concert. I'm talking head banging, jumping around and screaming. The whole nine yards. It's awesome! 😎🔥
There's very, very little music post 2004, give or take, that I can stomach. Everything sounds the same, and is pure trash for the most part, no matter the genre. But I love Shindown. Their music is inspiring and good to workout to.
Barry is the absolute sweetest. I told him my twin boys love their band, asks me what their names are and says "One sec, I'm a leftie and don't want to mess this up". Puts one of the pic/posters I had, flips it over and writes a note to my 2 boys, and signs it again. They are all such wonderful people as well as musicians. So glad my kids gravitate towards bands like this. 💜
I feel like this is about any kind of an addiction. Drugs, alcohol, and even narcissist people. Sometimes you just have to cut that cord and move on like the song says. 😊
+WWEMusicESP Oh snap. seriously? That's awesome! Then again, I shouldn't be surprised. Shinedown are huge WWE fans and WWE has used alot of their songs in the past. Plus, the Hell In A Cell PPV usually gets great themes. Awesome choice here!
My science teacher was blasting this in class after exams everyone was like wtf is this shit but was turn that shit up some more (of course i didnt say that but i was loving it) now i have a new fave teacher and another good ass band to listen to
Actually, since my science teacher is a fan of Imagine Dragons, A7X,Metallica, Lynyrd, etc., I told him that I was going to the mmrbq. He said that he's jealous because he knows what it is. He told me that his favorite A7X song is the Beast and the Harlot
Its all the same thing. Cutting the cord - the thing that keeps you tied up and unable to improve. Whether its the chains of addiction, the psycholgical abuse of toxic people or anything else it all boils down to this.
I just want to say this song helps me when I have cravings. Was was addicted to prescription pain killers for 8 years. Six years clean today. I know it's withdrawal isn't as bad as other drugs. I still destroyed my live twice, it also technically killed me twice. My heart stopped twice when I took to many of my vicodin and soma. Lately I have been having cravings. When I do I play this song. It literally saves me from going back to drugs. So Thank You!

This song is my sober life anthem! 2 years sober and this song gets me pumped about it every time I listen to it! "I'm gonna make it rain, so ring the bell I know it all too well Switchblade on the edge of your wrist Can I get a witness? (witness) 'Cause agony brings no reward For one more hit and one last score Don't be a casualty, cut the cord" Thanks Shinedown for the phenomenal music!
Here's what I love about Shinedown.... when they do a new song/album/single release like this.... they like to try new things, and tweak their style a little so it sounds slightly new and different so that we don't get bored.... but it still sounds like Shinedown.... they are good at that balance
Dammit I love this song. I live this song. Its incredible how many unhealthy ties (cords) we make ourselves beleive we need when in fact they bring only pain. And any gain is merely imagined and at best, short lived.
This song is my personal anthem to be a better version of myself, letting go of bad habits and taking care of myself physically, mentally and spiritually ❤️❤️❤️
This song is awesome, and above all it has a very important meaning: we can fit it to our different personal situations (drugs, alcohol, toxic people etc...) but in the end,we should respect ourselves enough to sever the boundaries that harm us. Even when it makes us feel "guilty"or "bad", it's actually the right thing to do.

They've got a lot of pretty inspirational songs.
Congrats next month makes my 2 year
congrats man, keep pushing. The only one who can stop you, is you.
you are so right shinedown gives joy when you listen to their music
stay at it man congrats on nearly 3 years now hopefully!
Let me tell you, I'm vicious
Not pass-aggressive
I got my finger on my pulse, staring straight into a hole and I'ma get it
And I'm a savage
It's automatic
I got a way of making noise, the power to destroy with no static
Now victory is all you need
So cultivate and plant the seed
Hold your breath and count to ten, just count to ten
I'm gonna make it rain, so ring the bell
I know it all too well
Switchblade on the edge of your wrist
Can I get a witness? (witness)
'Cause agony brings no reward
For one more hit and one last score
Don't be a casualty, cut the cord
cut the cord
(Freedom, la la la la)
(Freedom)
You gotta feel courage
Embrace possession
If it was easier to shatter everything that ever mattered
But it's not, because it's your obsession
Be a fighter, backbone, desire
Complicated and it stings, (but we both know what it means)
And it's time to get real and inspired
Now victory is all you need
So cultivate and plant the seed
Hold your breath and count to ten, just count to ten, just count to ten
I'm gonna make it rain, so ring the bell
I know it all too well
Switchblade on the edge of your wrist
Can you witness (witness)
'Cause agony brings no reward

When you’re in a mood & nothing like angry music helps you!!!
Agreed. It is therapy. Every human is still primal inside, at one time we were all "Savages" in one way or another. Having a few savage moments is nature if not necessary. I think of finding a new awesome song, like discovering fire. :)

13 years 3 months 15 days of kicking the habit, this is so my kiss off song to my old life.
Its not always drugs. Sometimes its our "false" loved ones.
Sometimes is our whole old life. The way we used to think ,act, talk, etc
Sometimes it is true
Sadly yes. I'm realizing all I can do is pray for them and I can't let them keep disappointing me.
And your politicians.
WOW! Thought the same
if you ever get to see shinedown live, do it. theyre one of the best live bands ive ever seen. 5FDP, breaking benjamin, shinedown...some of the best.
I'm seeing the on October 26th with breaking benjamin. I've been waiting to see them for so long
+Nick Kimmer same with me dude
Awesome
I hear volbeat is amazing live
Oh yeah haha, it was a stormy night when I went, and there was a lightning bolt that went across the sky at the perfect time during sound of madness it was great
If anyone else has been to the Carnival of Madness Tour you know these guys are great live.
yea 😭😭😭
Jazmin Winchel Y the crying faces?
Jazmin Winchel
Hell yeah they are
I was at the first one, and it was amazing.
Every now and then I'll play this song over my stereo system as loud as it'll go and rock out like I'm at an actual concert. I'm talking head banging, jumping around and screaming. The whole nine yards. It's awesome! 😎🔥
You do you ! I love it- wish you were my neighbor 😂
There's very, very little music post 2004, give or take, that I can stomach. Everything sounds the same, and is pure trash for the most part, no matter the genre. But I love Shindown. Their music is inspiring and good to workout to.
you should open your ears a bit more. stay off the radio and go find the music. its flooded out there. find it

The drummer is fucking Awesome, he had that down to a tee.The band is Amazing.
Barry is extremely talented. He's underrated! To be fair the whole band is..
You can extend this to anything. I take it as if you want something then go for it "don't be a casualty"
Indeed, it is about any kind of cord cutting, even the energetic ones that can not be seen.
I think of it as telling toxic people to kiss it, & peace I'm out!!! And I'm going to kick some ass, nobody is going to hold me back!
Well said MB well said
You said it. Cutting off a narc friend.
"Oh fuck that hurt so bad!"
Am I the only one who heard that at the very end?

Hell in a Cell 2015!!!
+WWEMusicESP tomorrow can't wait
+Alex Breton the use thier songs since 2005
So lost for so long

Barry, Eric, Zach, and Brent are all badass and class act musicians! Met them a few times always down to earth great guys
This song has saved me so many times. I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one. Cut the cord.
My science teacher was blasting this in class after exams everyone was like wtf is this shit but was turn that shit up some more (of course i didnt say that but i was loving it) now i have a new fave teacher and another good ass band to listen to
You'll be getting a new student soon
Lol
+Different is Good Why do all the science teachers like this music... Mine blasts rock in his room during lunch. He plays this song occasionally
Actually, since my science teacher is a fan of Imagine Dragons, A7X,Metallica, Lynyrd, etc., I told him that I was going to the mmrbq. He said that he's jealous because he knows what it is. He told me that his favorite A7X song is the Beast and the Harlot
My science teacher blasts Disturbed
its amazing when people make real music, this is just sweet melody to my ears
cant explain it,its just b e a utiful :D made mah day
So I like the band of course but saying real music no everyone likes their own music.

This song keeps me motivated to "cut the cord" from my drug addiction!!
I'm sorry
You got this!
A.A. SHOULD USE THIS AS ANTHEM
Pray and read the BIBLE it will bring victory
THERE is even a song called victory in Jesus
It really does work
When i hear this song I want to actually cut a cord hahaha
love the fact its not just one thing this song is talking about , for me it's cutting the cord for toxic people in my life .
So Thank You!
a day at a time i am 4 years clean and the cravings come and go but the music is medicine!!! Stay clean thats true strength
@@tylergarlitz9706 that's awesome. Congratulations. When I get the urges or start thinking about it. I just think of the look of disappointment in my oldest daughters eyes. I don't get that look at all anymore.

And honestly made me ask myself what in Gods Name i was doing When they were born i panicked or whatever i did whatever it was it was the opposite of being a dad. But when Death came knocking one day. The Ultimatum was plain and simple Continue destroying myself and my daughters turn out the same way or straighten my life out be a dad. Now i get high on my girls MUSIC and LIFE. The demons stay but the choice to feed the darkness or not does get easier but here it its several years later and there they are reminding me of where i am and how hard it was for me to get to where im at today.
@@tylergarlitz9706 they say you can't get clean for somebody else.(had a drug councilor say that to me). I call bullshit. I got clean for my kids. Any addiction is a bitch to detox from, don't ever think you are less of a warrior for what your addiction was. Congratulations for staying clean, you ROCK.
A lot of people post their struggles and that this song is reminder that they can overcome that for me it is my weight I am currently on a massive weight loss journey and I am currently down 436 from 470 and this is one of the main songs I workout to it gives me power it gives me inspiration.
Congratulations Brian ! Keep up the good work, I believe in you 🙂

Kickn A$$ ! Good job! Continue!
I love rock & roll music and will to the grave.
I'm 61 and grew up on heavy rock & roll and grunge...

Though, if it is used, it's lightly, i think..
