  • So, I went to Crime Con. Let's talk about that experience, and let's also talk about the Rust panel, because I have some serious thoughts about that. They straight up threw blame at Hutchins for her death. I'm angry.

      I get that. And I kinda thought it as well. I mean I’m still a bit skeptical. But I also watched it raise money for searches for missing persons, educate folks about safety and society, and bring awareness to many causes. It’s definitely weird. When I first heard of it I definitely had a “seriously?” moment haha.
      I guess I was left wondering, who is it exploiting? And I don’t know the answer to that. Maybe victims of crime? But like, in the case of Gabby Petito, Crimecon helped her family speak out about intimate partner violence and raise money for their charitable foundation. That’s anecdotal obv. :)
      I’m curious what your take is on who you think is being exploited? If you are comfortable chatting.

      That’s not true in all states, 14 years is the max inNSW because it’s classified as a dangerous weapon, you would never receive the maximum.
      I am not a lawyer, so check this all yourself. But my understanding is it is:
      In Qld it’s 4 years (Not 7 as I initially said).
      In Vic the maximum penalty is 2 yrs and most other states, being classified as a dangerous article.
      In WA you can carry it without a permit.
      Funnily enough, the people most likely to get caught with pepper spray are criminals. And gun control in Australia has worked pretty well.
      If you’ve seen the stand up joke about making bullets expensive, guns are like that in Au. Criminals often rent guns from other crims, and have to pay through the nose if they are used. AR 15s are about $30k.

    Since Hannah is already serving time on a maximum 18-month sentence seems like it would be easy to offer full immunity if her trial is reversed on appeal. By the time anything like that could possibly happen she will already have served 9 mos or a year. Doesn't seem like re-trying the case should be that high a priority.

    • @charliefoxtrot5001
      @charliefoxtrot5001 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Retrying would not be about the sentence, but the felony conviction. As a convicted felon, she is barred from possessing a firearm for the rest of her life. There is also the issue that she is facing another trial for a different charge (unlawfully carrying a firearm in a licensed liquor establishment).

    • @MichaelOnines
      @MichaelOnines 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@charliefoxtrot5001 I don't see keeping her a convicted felon as being a big must-have, either. This is a crime of negligence, not one of violent criminal intent. She is never going to have the opportunity to work on a film set with firearms again whether or not the conviction sticks, and the chances of a successful appeal are slim at best. Making a deal to get the best chance possible for a Baldwin conviction seems like a good tradeoff for that remote possibility.
      I wouldn't see any need to negotiate away the other charge.

    • @charliefoxtrot5001
      @charliefoxtrot5001 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MichaelOnines I think you misunderstand a few things.
      A "deal" for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed isn't even on the table. She had a joint prosecution agreement with Baldwin and is on Baldwin's witness list. She is also on the prosecution's witness list. This creates an odd constitutional issues, where she could testify for Baldwin's defense, but not be cross examined by the prosecution. The Prosecution has asked the judge to give her use immunity for the testimony, which would eliminate those issues. The judge now can either not give her use immunity and disallow her testimony for both sides, or give her use immunity and allow it. In any case, none of this is up to Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.
      As for a potential win on the appeal, retrying Hannah Gutierrez-Reed would be much easier, as her jail calls that happened after her conviction are admissible. She incriminated herself on those too, in addition to all the other testimony she gave to investigators. Also, letting her off the hook without a conviction won't fly in the court of public opinion either. She will be retried, during which time she will likely not receive bail. She violated her past bail terms. So, once the new trial is over, she will get convicted again and sentenced to time served.
      Also, giving her full immunity is highly problematic for the other charge (unlawfully carrying a firearm in a licensed liquor establishment) to be tried in court without running into at least some conflicts with the immunity.
      In any case, again, an immunity deal isn't even on the table.

    23:38 Yes! You need training (!) with the weapons and be mentally prepared for things not working. Hitting someone like Joe Schmoe with a baton can be effective. But hitting Junkie Junkson high off his mind with horse tranqulizers is a different animal. I heard a story about a colleague that hit a guy on the thigh with his baton about 10 times, nothing happened. But when he lightly pushed the man making him take a step then the man went to the ground. Why? The step activated muscles and bloodflow. So you have to be mentally prepared for things not having the effectiveness that you expected and have a plan B. Also you need to know where the line of self defence is and where it turns to assault.

    blaming Halayna for her death is like handing someone a big ol pot of poison labelled sugar, and then commenting that it's not many poisoning victims that serve themselves the poisoned tea. Her job was as a filmographer! There was an armourer on set, if Hannah had done her job properly then Halayna would still be out there doing hers 😢

    PSA: Bring earplugs _everywhere._ Reason: Fire alarms. It ruined my aunt's life. By the time she got down the (very echo-y) staircase at work, the damage was done. So keep earplugs in your desk, your purse, wherever. Fire alarms can happen anytime.
    As a Belgian, my opinion on self-defense weapons is that they usually do more harm than good. In places where these things are legal, every small criminal has some too because self-defense weapons are also weapons. Yes, I know I'm talking to a gun guy... That being said, I also live in a country where most bad guys don't carry a weapon. I'd feel differently if I was living across the big pond. The best free, legal, and universal self-defense is indeed situational awareness. And also dogs. Dogs, dogs, dogs!
    So take the dog with you, ladies! They have better situational awareness than any human, you know how to handle your dog while the bad guy has no idea how loud or annoying your dog is, and bad guys just really don't want to deal with your flooffriend. If I have to go out alone at night or in a rural area, my collie's coming with me. Makes me feel safe, him happy, and bad people sad.

But, this was with a military issue tazer, and she's like 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and maybe 120 lbs (54 kgs) in uniform.

    I would love a video on situational awareness. Most Americans I know are really bad in that area (way too much focus on phones). I remember going to Berne, Switzerland - the buses, trains, cars and bikes all assumed you would watch out for yourself. There were also stores in cellars below street level with the doors open and water ways coming down from the mountain where some of the grates were missing. It was a good exercise in situational awareness.

    So I will say that especially for POC, publicity and getting the attention they deserve in missing persons cases can be hard. I imagine they're not thinking that just buying their book will help, cuz that's never really the goal of an author. They aren't hoping you stick it on a shelf somewhere, they're hoping you buy it, read it, share it, and get people talking about it.
    Buuuuuut I agree that wasn't the tactful way to handle it. Promotion seems like it should be in kind; there are free ways to get people talking, and if you're gonna charge money then you should be donating some of it.

    Regarding preserving Bowles’ signature on the dummies, could you make an epoxy resin cube/square thing with them in the centre, (as in pouring the epoxy over the dummies placed in a mould) or would that be bad in terms of chemical reactions & such? Wondering, as I have some dummies given to me from a Nic Cage film that was shot here in Australia on which I worked.

    One annoying thing about pink and baby blue being marked as the colour of ineffective girly crap is that it'd be a great colour for hunting or survival knives, since it'll stand out in the undergrowth if you drop it regardless of season. Same reason why if you carry an emergency lighter, emergency bad or similar, it should be pink, blue, or both if you can manage it
    You might think orange, but there's this thing called autumn

    It would be great for you to talk about situational awareness. Walking on city streets I was always shocked at how unaware people are. Spending summers hiking the Ozarks taught me to be aware. You should take a walk in a city you don't live in and speak out loud what you are doing, what you are noticing, what you avoid. It would be so instructional.

      😂😂😂 Nope, stun gun wouldn’t be effective! The only thing that worked for my son was the weeks (yes plural) that I shut his bedroom door and refused to clean up after him or do his laundry. The caveat to that is that he had just started dating a girl he really liked, and when he had no clean clothes and his room was gross and he was too embarrassed for her to see it, he suddenly learned to clean 😂😂😂😂😂 I guess the answer to what motivates them the best is impending abject humiliation in front of a crush! Good news is he is now 21 and color coordinates his closet 😂 They outgrow the messy gross stage for the most part!
